Re: [Blind-Computing] .nrg file extension

This is a nero image file. Create your project in nero and when you are
ready to burn, press ctrl+r or from the recorder menu enter on choose
recorder, From the dialogue select image recorder virtual device and try to
burn it. It will show a save as dialogue for your image file. Nrg filetype
is by default, so you only show the program where to store you nrg file. You
can also choose iso in this dialogue. If you want, you can use applications
as ultra iso, magic iso or power iso to convert other image formats to or
from nrg. Don't forget to choose your phizical device when you want to burn
on CD or DVD.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Problems with Friend's Laptop

2008-10-28 Thread Reese
Chris:

Just wondering, did these problems show up after the upgrade to service pack
3? If so, might want to do a system restore to return to service pack 2.
Service pack 3 doesn't work successfully on all windows XP systems. My
wife's work computer wouldn't grant access to the internet after the
upgrade. Returned to SP2, and the internet connection was restored.

Hi all,
I went to look at my friend's HP laptop running XP Home SP3 today, and I've
noticed some problems with it. First, a DVD I created earlier on today
refused to read despite it being a DVD-RW drive. It didn't even spin, and,
when I tried to access what was the D drive from the run dialogue box, I
received the following error:
d:\ is not accessible. The requested operation was not performed due to a
device i/o error
Something like that. What on earth does this mean, and how can I fix it
please?

Hi all,
I went to do some maintenance yesterday at my friend's house using her

So I've now left her without an antivirus, but managed to get her some
antispyware protection. What do you all think of me checking stuff out
before doing any such maintenance? I didn't know this should have been done
before anything else till tonight. Any comments on this would be greatly

Those 3 programs are shareware. You can find more info about them as
follows:

Ultra iso:
http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/

Magic iso:
http://www.magiciso.com/

Power iso:
http://www.poweriso.com/

In my humble appinion ultra iso is best among those and most accessible
out of the box. There are also scripts for power iso,, and if you need
them, you can look at

www.ultrauniverse.co.cc

This is a nero image file. Create your project in nero and when you are
ready to burn, press ctrl+r or from the recorder menu enter on choose
recorder, From the dialogue select image recorder virtual device and
try to burn it. It will show a save as dialogue for your image file.
Nrg filetype is by default, so you only show the program where to store
you nrg file. You can also choose iso in this dialogue. If you want,
you can use applications as ultra iso, magic iso or power iso to
convert other image formats to or from nrg. Don't forget to choose your
phizical device when you want to burn on CD or DVD.

[Blind-Computing] Changes in Google Search Results Page

2008-10-28 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi all, I've just done a random Google search, and two buttons, promote

seem to do anything either, hence the below question. Has anyone else seen
this change and if so how do they work? Is there anywhere where I can find

[Blind-Computing] AVG not Removing Spyware but Super Antispyware Is?

2008-10-28 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Hi all,
Hannah and I are both using AVG 8 Free Edition and Super Antispyware Free
Edition. We want your opinions on the following please. We're observing that
AVG is picking up spyware, but is having problems removing all of them
found, yet Super Antispyware is having no problems removing all that is
found. Should we be looking for a better antivirus solution? I understand
that we're getting what we've paid for, but just want you opinions on the
above. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This past week, I had a thing creating a bit of its spyware engine as an

while Symantec's Norton didn't seem to manage much, at least AVG could find

Re: [Blind-Computing] AVG not Removing Spyware but SuperAntispyware Is?

2008-10-28 Thread Jacob Kruger
Oh yes, another thing one of the standard IT guys made me also do is install
something called Spyware Terminator on the machine afterwards as well, and I
have now stopped it from starting automatically since it was in fact causing
VS.Net to hang, and Jaws wasn't rendering any worthwhile content when trying
to figure out what was going wrong, and, FWIW, it also seemed to be
affecting it's rendition of Outlook 2007 somewhat, and the moment I 'killed'
it, everything went back to working.

Seems to have been interfering with either/both VS.Net's system resource
access, or Jaws video interception or something.

So are you concluding then that AVG's good at finding stuff but not actually
remove them? What if I install a programme called Trojan Remover on my

2008-10-28 Thread Chris Hallsworth
How about this as a possible issue? Her computer is a few years old and it
could be that I used an incompatible disk for her drive? If this was the
case why would it: 1) not show any files or folders, and 2) display a
strange i/o error message? Why also would it refuse to spin up yet it was
trying to.

Yeah, well that was my intensions, to install what was on the CD then give
the CD to her. This of course didn't happen due to the possibly dead DVD
drive. It was actually a DVD I was going to give her, but so what.
Shouldn't

make a difference.

Chris:

No. She will still get the critical updates. Just keep saying no to SP3.

Oh gosh! I might have to try that then, but then she'll lose access to
critical security updates won't she?

Re: [Blind-Computing] AVG not Removing Spyware but SuperAntispywareIs?

2008-10-28 Thread Marilyn Walker
Thanks, Chris. With the jaws cursor on, the list mentions that one can
restore, delete or remove items from quaranteen so that was why I was asking
since there is no delete when you get down to it. Another question. You
have to remove each spyware individually as far as I can tell. Is there a
way to look over the list and decide to remove all at the same time?

Re: [Blind-Computing] AVG not Removing Spyware but SuperAntispywareIs?

2008-10-28 Thread Jacob Kruger
AVG found something that symantecs one didn't even find, but it left
traces - unless they were being replaced during the process/timeframe or
something, but it definitely at least did something with regard to removing
some other instances that the symantec one didn't find.

So are you concluding then that AVG's good at finding stuff but not
actually remove them? What if I install a programme called Trojan Remover
on my friend's machines? I know it wouldn't solve all the problems, but it
would add an extra layer of protection to some extent.

This past week, I had a thing creating a bit of its spyware engine as an
executable called SBSB.exe in the root of all drives it could access, and
while Symantec's Norton didn't seem to manage much, at least AVG could
find the files, but I still had to go remove around 7 registry entries on
one machine myself.

Hi all,
Hannah and I are both using AVG 8 Free Edition and Super Antispyware
Free Edition. We want your opinions on the following please. We're
observing that AVG is picking up spyware, but is having problems
removing all of them found, yet Super Antispyware is having no problems
removing all that is found. Should we be looking for a better antivirus
solution? I understand that we're getting what we've paid for, but just
want you opinions on the above. Any comments would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
