I've done it before. Unfortunately when I did the last one, one of the
vertical pieces of wood in the actual window framing was bad so that involved
milling a new piece to replace first and then the window. So the majority of
the work was done before the real job started.

Lee,
What I have found in the past is you need to buy an opener that can be
programmed to the type (brand) door you have. For instance, a couple of
years ago we installed a Liftmaster garage door opener. Prior to that we
had Craftsman. There was no way I could get the remotes that went with
thanks Al. I did not think of that before. one remote not working

craftsman and the original remotes were not with the house when we
bought it but there were two fixed buttons inside the house and

No, I really don't know for sure about the programming Dan but I'll
share the information I get with her to see and a good idea to maybe
compare with a neighbor about the use of a different remote.

Hi,
When shingling a roof, What do you use as a jig to line up the shingles
across the roof?
Thanks,
Ralph

The easiest way is to have a sighted person put the first role or two on. Than
make a jig to keep the singles in line. The standard U S single is either 4 or
5 inches. I put mine on at the 5 inch mark. You do this by cutting a board
about 3 inches wide and 7 inches long. Under cut to the 5 inch
Nothing.
Line your first row up with the edge of the roof, then the second row line
the bottom up with the crotch on the row below it. The second row should be
offset from the first about 1/3 the length of the shingle, there is a little
notch on the top that will help with this.
Put nails in each
The one in our van can be programmed for any garage door opener. I can
program up to 4 different ones, including the ones that change frequency for
security reasons.
So, if this is available in a van, they might make a universal portable one.

Hi Dale,
I tried using a utility knife but it barely made a scratch in the nylon.
I'm going to borrow my brother's jigsaw and see if that works. Thanks.
Take care,

But I think we have to have a working portable one to program it, so it
might not be exactly what your looking for.

Yes, the stuff can be really hard.
You want a slow speed if you use a jigsaw so the blade doesn't get hot.

The usual thing to do is to install the first row upside down. Up here we

Ed,
Any saw you use will create a lot of heat. With that in mind, keep a light
feed rate in place so the saw doesn't create extra friction. You should be
able to use a circular saw too, as long as you have a fine tooth blade. For a

Hi Bob,
I've been trying to use a crosscut blade I own. It's got very fine teeth
almost like those on a fairly coarse hacksaw blade. This afternoon, I fed
the blade into the material as slowly as I could and the resultant cut was
better than the last few cuts. There was still some melting
