Highway 60, they all pull off the
road and hop out of cars with cameras and binocs to look at the moose.
Sometimes there are 25 or more vehicles lining the highway in one spot, so as
you approach you know a moose is there somewhere.
So, today we joined a Goose Jam.

My resident Cooper's Hawk just nailed one of my two White Breasted Nuthatches,
which made me sad for the pair.
A squirrel soon after ran up a branch and approached the hawk, who was busy
plucking feathers from the Nuthatch body, so the hawk flew off across the road.

The shrike doesn't seem to like cars pulling underneath where it is perched.
It has now flown across East Shore drive along the powerline area. it didn't go

A DOWNY WOODPECKER fledgling comes with its male parent to my 2 suet feeders;
It begs for food and after being fed, while the parent is eating more suet to
feed it again, the fledgling is eating away at the other suet!

On this lovely 70 degree day (Tues. 6/26). , I took a leisurely drive over hill
and dale to Owasco Flats by NY Rt. 38 (#41 in our wonderful Cayuga Basin
guidebook) and walked around the loop trail along the inlet stream and old RR
bed Some parts were very wet muddy and I wore the wrong shoes,
. These are the most common call they produce during nocturnal
migration, but which are also produced during the daytime when they aren't
actively singing; often as an alarm call, too.

Lake, I guess; I birded all around Lansing Station Rd. and Edwards Lake Cliff
Preserve (both Lansing, near the lake, some parts with old orchard trees in
bloom) in the last 2 days and saw only Yellow Rumped, Yellow,
rescued the largest Toad I have ever seen from the middle of Lansing
Station Rd. Hope I pointed it in the right direction (from its standpoint).

And I suppose they went right out and shot the Swan after the tragic incident.
That's usually what happens where humans are harmed, when animals act in their
natural ways of defending themselves.

Captions with video are from last year, but I looked at this link a couple
weeks ago and there were just bare sticks and no bird in
East side of Cayuga Lake, viewed from RR track near 591 Lansing Station Rd.
about 1:30 PM,
flock of around 175-200 Aythyas, about 4/5 RING-NECKED DUCKS with about 1/5
REDHEADS.
Also, two COMMON LOONS diving nearby.
