Proceeding from there south down the lake there were a lot of Tundra Swans in
groups ranging from 15 to over 300. My rough estimate is around 1500.

An Osprey flying over Union Springs Academy campus about 3:00, heading toward
the lake. Hopefully "our" Union Springs nester.
A pair of N. Shovelers, a single Pied-billed Grebe, and a dozen or so
Buffleheads on the pond around 7pm.

The yard Blue Jays fledged (nest not seen but know it's somewhere near), and a
couple nestfulls of Chipping Sparrows. The Carolina Wren has started up again
after about 6 weeks of silence or absence.

I'm guessing at least one of our Ospreys has fledged. I didn't have time to
drive over to the nest site on Center Rd, but about 11:00 today I was heading
home on Spring St when I saw 3 Ospreys over the field on the noth side of the
road as I was reaching the crest. One landed on the ground and

This morning about 930 there were 5 Ospreys circling high above the nest site
on Center/No.1 Rd, and a not-particularly-welcome Red-tailed Hawk. The
youngsters were characteristi

next morning. Its condition leads me believe it was hit sometime Tues
afternoon. So it was extra nice to see 5 drifting together today. Could it be
possible that the pair raised 4 youngsters?

Learned of 2 more Union Springs Osprey nests just south of town--one at the
Dildine/Hardy Rds "T" and the other just a few utility poles north of the T.
Both were occupied this year. It's just a road I don't usually go down.

Yardbird ravens--first ever. Out hanging laundry, listening to the squeaking of
the chickadees and missing my Field Sparrow. Heard an odd fwup-fwup overhead
and receding, thought "odd crows" and then they "cronked" repeatedly, so gone
was any confusion.

RT89 I stopped at that east-facing overlook and saw over 70
swans on "Black Lake"--couldn't ID them with just binoculars. Someone with
