Almost a dozen pine siskins finally visited our feeders on Vine St in Ithaca
today. We have also had 2-3 fox sparrows scratching on the ground for the past
2 days.

to see fledglings. Yesterday, we were able to see at least 3 eggs that mama
goose was sitting on. (I never knew that geese would nest in such an area,

This morning I noticed a Mourning Dove with an appropriate size small branch,
on our platform feeder—with no other birds present. It walked around the

Just the other day I saw about a dozen Cedar Waxwings fly catching over the
stream, as viewed from East Hill Rec Way, on the bridge which is near the
intersection of 366/Dryden Rd. I believe this is something they do frequently,
as it is a good spot to find Waxwings.

I had several burdock plants attached to my arm! I’ve heard of hummingbirds
getting stuck in spider webs—but this was my first experience of a bird being

The numbers of early morning juncos have left, but this morning about 20 WHITE

On a walk up Eastern Heights Rec Way this morning I also spotted
Robins--a flock of between 25-30. They were sitting quite still
munching on left-over black fruit, and appearing as still as the
half-dozen Cedar Waxwings which were also there.
Last week I spotted about 50 Robins on the East Hi
We decided to take advantage of the sunny day and do some birding around
the lake--going up West side (destination Sauders Market in Seneca
Falls) and back down East. Of course this latter choice made it
difficult to get good looks at some birds due to lighting, but we did
the best we could.

Larry and I had a leisurely trip around the lake today. Because there
weren't the great numbers of waterfowl on the lake, our first main stop
was Mudlock to look at the BALD EAGLE on nest with at least one visible

Perhaps the Turkey Vulture was on the way towards sniffing out an animal
carcass. I was sort of surprised to notice a TV on the ground working
on an animal carcass around 10 a.m. this morning, in the open field area
south of Kendall. I sort of forgot about this, until seeing France's

The beauty of the red Cardinals was very present today as we counted 17
(!!) Cardinals at our feeders in the early afternoon. There were at
least 11 males, but the way they all kept flitting about, it was sort of
difficult to count. What a gorgeous sight!

Larry and I went up the lake today for a leisure day of birding. While
we really didn't see anything out of the ordinary we had 'our' first
glimpse of the (a) white-winged Turkey Vulture seen soaring about a mile
north of King Ferry on route 90. However, we did see some 'rare
birders'--Susan D
We haven't found the Stilt Sandpiper but found a Wilson's Phalarope in breeding
plumage at Benning marsh.

After our obligatory stop at Sauders Market, we stopped back by to see if the
hummer would be more cooperative. Unfortunately, someone was walking their dog
in the yard, and time demanded that we return. But we had a great time finding

For the past several days we have been treated to LOTS of Cardinals--all at one
time, at our feeders. By 'lots' I mean, we reached a high number of 22 today!!

We just looked out above our house (near Mitchell St) and noticed that
there are probably about 100 starlings who are "catching flies"--or
acting similar to flycatchers--about 200 feet up in the sky. I noticed
this same phenomena earlier this morning off of East Hill Rec Way.

We currently have at least 50 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS in our (small)
yard and one WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (first of year for us). While we've
had the White-Throats for a while, this is the most we've ever spotted

that Pine Siskins had returned to Ithaca, we are glad that we had our
