FINCH on Easter sunday (both male and female).
Should also mention that we've been having a JUNCO subspecies intergrade
with a light brown back and crown. Its bill is also a lighter pink than
the normal slate-colored birds.

This morning at Upper Buttermilk I came upon 2 SCARLET TANAGERS
counter-singing across the road. What was so unusual was the ferocity
and speed by which one bird sang. I've never heard a tanager singing so
rapidly and with such intensity!

This afternoon we had a PINE SISKIN show up at one of our feeders,
competing with the goldfinches. Is it unusual to have that species here
at this time?

Had our first Brown Thrasher in our yard at 120 Vine St. in
Ithaca. Beautiful
bird. It was literally "excavating" for insect larvae with its long bill.=
Since 1998, our earliest first yard sighting before this was April
10!!

They're on the move. We had both male and female ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAKS at our feeders today. This was our first female (saw a male
on 4/28).

d activity was about. Interestingly, I seem to recall that
whenever we've had this species in our yard, it has only been a single
individual.
