instructor had 6.x in a vm under CentOS and later under Windows XP. His
recollection was this: It ran faster under Windows XP

ESX server is meant to be standalone. Though some have gotten it to install
under Workstation, it's not recommended. You want the standard VMware Server
(no ESX).

You can only get multiple CIPC going if you run VMs. I've never seen anyone
manage to get multiple going under one OS. :(
