Grant,

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get to the actual
archive on protoweb. I am sure it is some sort of config problem on my end. I
will have to play with it some more this weekend. TBH I would be surprised that
they have an older mirror/more complete mirror. Archive.org actually has an ok
selection of crawls from Compaq.com but they of course never got any files from
the FTP.

You could have just said "there's a site that set up a proxy server for
browsing a moderate number of old mirrors of HTTP and FTP sites" and linked
to that site instead of sending us a link to a youtube video.

It's https://protoweb.org/ and this definitely seems to be aimed at an
audience that wasn't alive when these browsers and websites were around.
If it was aimed at the cctech crowd it could have been a very simple
webpage that explains that they have an HTTP/FTP/Gopher proxy server at
wayback.protoweb.com:7851 and you can then go to www.inode.com to see
what's available. Instead that information is hidden under multiple layers
of bizarre hand-holding.

I'm watching a video talking about Protoweb and one of the ftp sites

I'm interested in checking out Protoweb for various reasons, but I

Overland library. Apparently you could have used the original
Overland firmware in the MSL5000 as well but Overland doesn't have
any of the info/files up on that model any more either after the
merger with Tandenberg...

The manual for the SW5450 Switch Manual and any FW updates (not sure
if there was any).

Any FW later then 1.01 for the SW332x series of dual speed switches.

I happened to have my CD binders out yesterday looking for something
else and paid attention as I flipped past the Compaq CDs (having
recently seen / replied to this thread).

It seems as if all the CDs that I have are Compaq SmartStart CDs, likely
for the various ProLiants that I've had over the years. I think there
was a firmware maintenance CD that was also for the ProLiants.

Do you think that there is any chance that the tape library software /
firmware would be on them?

If so I can get them back out and search them. But I'd like to have a
better idea what I'm looking for before embarking on such a search.

I am happy to (slowly over the next week?) do so if you think it's
worthwhile for me to do so.

TIA!

You're welcome.

Please let me know if you think it's worth my while to search or at
least generate a directory listing to provide for and to you for your
searching.

I think those are out there. I believe the last version for DOS was 8.x and
that is in the first 500 Softpaqs. I can find the exact number for you if you

You should think about the proper usage of units...

If "gb" is gigabytes, then "mb" is megabytes. With a 150 megabytes/s link
downloading the whole archive should be very comfortable. OTOH if "mb" is
megabits, then with 220 gigabits, it isn't that a huge archive.
In addition to that, "m" (minuscule M) stands for "milli", "M"
(majuscule M) stands for "mega" and "G" for giga, so 150mb/s would be 150
millibytes/second. Oh yes, "bytes" is abbreviated with a majuscule B.

==> 220 GB, 150 Mbits/s

;-)

Yes, but my view of it said there were no browseable files which was the point

I've got a Deskpro ENP tower (built like a truck) and I ran into
difficulties running GWBASIC. Fortunately, there is a Softpaq that
fixes that, so you may want to pick that one up also.

I have the whole archive, but you'd have to tell me which files you need.
Note that most files from ftp.compaq.com are still available on
ftp://ftp.hp.com/ (including all softpaqs).

You should be able to install Windows 98 without any special drivers, and
then use Google to find the specific drivers that are missing.
driverguide.com and driverscollection.com etc. are your friend.

Hi folks,

Managed to rescue a Compaq Deskpro EN from the scrap pile at work today and
realised it has a proper floppy controller so I can install a 5.25” drive.

Trouble is ftp.compaq.com has disappeared so getting
drivers for win98 is going to be difficult unless I have them at work on old
driver CDs. archive.org has a mirror of the whole ftp
site but it’s 220gb and I’m not sure my little 150mb/s web connection will
download that in less than a month :)

Did anyone else grab it before it disappeared?
