I seem to be burning through zincs on my prop shaft, replace them at least
twice or more in a season. I posted a photo previously in the group of a shaft
brush (https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/my-drive) someone helped me figure
out what it was. Currently the wire on it leads nowhere which
I seem to replace zincs more than usual, perhaps a symptom of my Marina and the
proximity to tug boats who drop barges of gravel off on the other side of the
creek. Anyway I was snooping around the engine and discovered that the other

Can anyone tell me the dates of the West Coast rendezvous, couldn’t find
anything on the website, I’m in the Vancouver area. Would be great if the dates
worked so I could make the trip and meet some likeminded individuals.

Hauled out today for a quick bottom job. Yard suggested fibreglass for the
crack, but then there’s also G-Flex. Epoxy and fairing could be an option but
that would add on to the project. Any success or opinions on one or the other?
It’s a minor smile, no torquing keel bolts at dropping
With the cabin headliner on my 1980 30’ MK1 being one solid piece, there are no
accessible bolts for the cabin top grab rail. I’m sure I could figure out how
to remove the grab rail but without a bolt to hold the underside to tighten it
back up I’m a bit lost. Does anyone know how how I’d
In an effort to reduce constant dripping from a neglected winch fastened to my
deck support along-side the mast (common on the 80’ MK2) I removed it, cleaned
with Acetone and filled the holes with Life Caulk. That way my settee below
doesn’t get soaked each rainfall during our Vancouver winter.
This is a two part query about doing the bottom of a sailboat by a first-timer.
The high pressure spray that removed the previous saltwater growth of 1.5 years
(during the survey in July) also removed part of the protective coat of
anti-fouling that was left. I thought I would get around to
Currently replacing fuel filters and doing general maintenance on a neglected
engine. Replacing the zincs, tightening nuts, replacing hoses. And after
switching out the zinc and tightening the nut I wondered if it should be
putting a liquid gasket, blue lock tight or anti seize on there. What
We’re in Vancouver BC, Georgia Straight can get foggy, tides come and go and
we’re new at this. We have no GPS on our new to us 1981 C 30 and very little
in the way of navigation other than dead reckoning, basic familiarity with the
area and a compass at the helm. It’s fun because it’s like we
The surveyor when I bought the boat said I could replace the standing rigging
myself one wire at a time. Of course I had a lot of gusto when I first
purchased her and balls to hoist atop and unclip 37 year old standing rigging.
Today I have the phone number of a rigger who was recommended to
Recently filled up the V birth water tank and discovered a slow leak. PO left
it empty and now I know why. This eventually drained everything into my bilge,
as the tank is now empty and the bilge is full. So that needs to be fixed. Has
anyone repaired a plastic water tank before, or do you
I love music, but on a sailboat I prefer the sounds around me. So my latest
project is sourcing the two original sleeves and covers for the holes in the
cockpit behind the wheel, where there are currently two speakers. The PO
installed the speakers with some kind of builders adhesive which has
The surveyor found what he said was wet deck near a stanchion aft of the
shrouds, at the base are spider-cracks. I’ve sounded that area of the deck
myself, measured with a moisture meter and found nothing notable - but I’m no
expert.
I even drilled a pilot hole down below to see if water was
Thanks for the feedback. I did some snooping and surely it’s a shelf, not
structural. Will tab it with fibreglass and call it a day.

Discovered a crack on the portside inside the cabin where the chainplate
attaches to the fibreglass hull/deck support. Not sure if this is structural or
cosmetic. Had someone jump up and down on the portside deck forward and aft of
the shrouds to see if there was any movement. Didn’t see any.
Previous owner claimed new Lexan “waterproofed windows” and a mysterious leak
that no one could find on the starboard settee. We hosed down the topsides
yesterday and discovered TWO mysterious leaks, one for each port window. One
into a light above the salon table and the other on the settee.
Thanks for all the feedback regarding the bilge re-wire on my 30-1, very
helpful advice really appreciate it. I’m now going down the rabbit-hole of
electrical and figured I’d post a few photos because maybe something is
glaringly obvious with my current setup and one of you can point it out.
Need to wire the bilge pump direct to the battery and bypass the distribution
panel. Currently have to turn battery on for it to work. Simple enough, just
not something I've done before. Has anyone wired this or know how to install a
switch (3-way) to do so? No I'm not an electrician and yes
Still squaring away the details for my second day of boat ownership on my new

Lifted the boat and saw the smile, think it was done with g-flex? Apparently
the crack is hairline, not deep, not structural. And was filled -- now 1.5”
wide with the filler. Apparently no one went aground - by current or previous
owner (only two). Surveyor thinks otherwise and says to monitor
Curious how involved removing the cabin headliner is on a 1980 C MK1 would
like to get access to replace/re-bed a bunch of things including the grab
rails.
Also, a common question I’m sure that gets asked a lot with C, but is it
typical for most of this vintage to have the C “smile” at the

Hey all, I'm about to go through with a survey on a 1980 C 30, noted a few
things on my own initial inspection, curious if other 30 owners of this vintage
have had similar repairs and how much of a concern the repairs were.
Here’s what I found:

Hi,
Still eyeballing an 86’ MKIII for sale and contemplating possible cosmetic
upgrades if I were to purchase. Not a big fan of the single pane plexi window
wondering if I can make it two panes like a few years earlier before they
changed it. Would be great if I could get some trim that goes
Hoping to get some perspective from the group on a boat I’m interested in. I’m
not a surveyor but I took some photos and video (in the link below) of a 86’
C MKIII I'm considering making an offer on. And would really appreciate some
thoughts on it to save me the hassle of paying a surveyor if

I’m new to C world, recently narrowed down my boat search to a C and
currently have my eye on two that are on the market: a 1986 C 35 MKIII and a
