Good morning All,
Threw seed out early this morning and had all of the singleton
sparrows that were present yesterday - adult Golden-crowned Sparrow,
adult Slate-colored Fox Sparrow, adult Lincoln's Sparrow, and adult
Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow. In addition still have juncos,
There are still 30+ Long-billed Curlews at Titan and N Roxborough Park Rd. SE
corner, about 1/4 mile south, by the rusty power poles, as mentioned yesterday.
I did not see the Burrowing Owl at Chatfield. There are 6 or 8 Sage Thrashers
in the brushy area half way down the road to Plum Creek
Greetings -
Jeff and I wandered up to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR this morning
for a couple of hours.
Of note:
1 breeding plumaged Common Loon on Lake Ladora
1 Merlin - Taiga subspecies not too far from the visitor center
4 species of swallow (Bank, Cliff, Tree, Barn)
Total of 47 species.
Hello, Birders.
I had an errand to run this morning in Superior, Boulder County, so I figured
I'd do some birding in the southeastern corner of the county.
On the far eastern corner of the Coalton Open Space, things were kinda slow,
but it was nice to find a Sage Thrasher and an American Pipit
A small group of us on a Boulder Bird CLub trip (originally scheduled for
the Fowler Trail In Eldorado Canyon State Park) visited the Sawhill Ponds
area then went to Cottonwood Marsh this morning.
Highlights were: A pair of Peregrine Falcons posing in a tree so that we
all got great looks through
Single female common redpoll at the feeder today (4/20), in with siskins.
Turkeys are seen almost daily.. After not for years.

Jim Duggan and I were the sole observers on a Denver Field Ornithologists
field trip to Denver City Park this morning. Highlights included 3
Bluw-winged Teal, 2 Hooded Mergs in first spring male plumage, a Cooper's
Hawk in the midst of the heronry in Ferril Lake, 3 avocets, 4 Greater
Yellowlegs,
On the way home from a Denver Field Ornithologists field trip, I stopped at
the Heritage Golf Course Heronry. In addition to 3 Great Blue Herons on
nests, there was a pair of Osprey. While I watched, they launched into what
appeared to be a high flying courtship flight.
Heritage Golf Course
Saw what I think is a Northern Shoveler/Blue-winged Teal Hybrid on Berkeley
Lake this morning. Distinctive white crescent at back of an oversized bill.
Rufous sides. Green head. I don't have a real camera, but would love
confirmation from anyone who can see it or get a photo.
Also some FOS on
Hi Everyone-
Today 4/20, Marcia Marvin and I did some birding around Longmont and
Boulder. We found no larks or longspurs along 119th Street or Oxford Roads
today, so we went over to Twin Lakes. We saw three Mountain Bluebirds, a N
Rough-winged Swallow, and a Gray-headed Junco at the west
I went back to photograph the Long-billed Curlews off Roxborough Rd (with my
good camera) and got some nice photos and video. I scanned the west side of the
road towards a Prarie Dog community and spotted a Burrowing Owl at a hole. I
watched as it disappeared into the hole. A few minutes later
2 PM today:
Osprey flying over with a very big fish, seemed to be half his size, landed
in the dead trees just west of Mt Carbon. Caused quite a stir among the
prairie dogs.
Other birds included:
at least 12 Western Grebes
1 Pied-billed Grebe
2 Great Blue Herons
several Double Crested
8 American (4 f, 4 m) Pipits landed in the soccer field at Blue Mountain
Elementary School in west Longmont this morning at around 9 AM.

This past Friday and Saturday mornings I led my Birding for Beginners
participants to locations at Fountain Creek Nature Center, the
TinselTownPond off of I-25 and Circle Dr., Prospect Lake and Big
Johnson Reservoir in
El Paso County. We had a few good birds each day seeing 50 species
On my way back from Chico Basin Ranch this morning, where there was nothing too
exciting to report, there were three long-billed curlews in the flooded field
along Hanover Road that is about 2 miles from the intersection of Old Pueblo
Road and Hanover Road. Not the numbers others have been
When I visited Neegronda Reservoir between 3:00 and 5:00 PM today, an
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the southeast shore. Access to that part of
the lake is fairly straightforward; from Hwy 287, take the signed turnoff
to Neegronda toward the west. I believe golden-plover sightings in
