Hi all
Yesterday's big wind did "the business" at Spring Park Reservoir and
transformed the ice conditions from 85% frozen to 85% open water!
Much of the ice is piled in big heaps along the shore and promontories
towards the north end. The NE arm is still mainly frozen.

Annual fishing licenses are $26 for Colorado residents. After April 1, there
may be a $10 Habitat fee added on. I'm not sure about this. The DOW website is
a little confusing. But a Colorado resident 64 or older can get a fishing
license for $1. Even with a $10 Habitat fee added on, that would b

A friend who has seen burrowing owls in the past reported to me that she
saw one yesterday afternoon, 4:15 PM, in a field west of the Longmont
Museum on Highway 287 and Quail Road, south of Longmont, in Boulder
County. She said the owl was standing on a burrow and that she only saw
one. -Elena Kl

FYI. You can only purchase a habitat with a hunting or fishing license, unless
you are looking to access Jumbo or Prewitt reservoir. You can also only
purchase a habitat if you are between the ages of 18 and 64. In other words,
if you don't fall into one of those categories, you do not need
I agree with Olin. It would be nice for birders to be recognized for
contributing their dollars to our natural areas. I, for one, will still
purchase the stamp (as I have every year for 4-5 years) and make sure to
advertise myself as a birder while doing so. We need to provide a larger voice

The law has changed but I don't think the principle has. You should
still buy a stamp to support protection of wildlife habitat, whether
