Bug#672704: [blop] LADSPA plugins shouldn't call setlocale()

2018-10-08 Thread trebmuh

Wouldn't the most clean approach be to configure the package with
'--disable-nls' and be done with it?

 - Fabian

Hi Fabian,
it might work, but it would means then loosed the translations.
There is currently a german translation included in the sources.

Since I wrote this earlier email today, a friend of mine, who is
programmer, undertook to write a proper patch for blop. We'll add it
to this report when done.

So, after he looked deeply on the code, he told me that the code wasn't
looking that good and would need a big review for that to works fine.
So, because last upstream hasn't released a new version since 2004, and
because the LV2 version of it sounds to be more active (
http://drobilla.net/software/blop-lv2 ), it doesn't seem to worth to
spend time on fixing i18n on the LADSPA version, specifically because
there is only one half translation in german.

Then, we finally agreed that what Fabian suggested sounds to be the more
reasonable solution: "configure the package with '--disable-nls' and be
done with it".

I've been testing a package rebuild with this option in d/rules on a
debian stretch, and it's working for the purpose of using cinelerra and
mhwavedit. All good this way then.

Hope that helps,
Olivier

Bug#672704: [blop] LADSPA plugins shouldn't call setlocale()

2018-10-07 Thread trebmuh

Hi all,

I can confirm that the bug is still present in the 0.2.8-6 package on
Debian Stretch.

The way I encountered it is that I (manually by compilation since
there
is no package in Debian for it) installed cinelerra (both CV and GG
version), then when launching it, its GUI is in English. Then, I've
removed the blop package (with synaptic) and relaunched cinelerra and
now, the GUI is displayed in French (my locale).

I've seen that there is a patch attached, but it seems from the
comment
above that it's not safe to apply it so I didn't try.

What would you people would recommend to move forward from here?
It could be great to have this one fixed for the next buster release.

Cheers,
Olivier

PS : note that this bug is affecting mhWaveEdit as well.

Steps to reproduce with mhWaveEdit:
1) open mhwaveedit with a French locale
2) go to Fichier -> Ouvrir... (file -> open...) and open an audio file
3) cut (ctrl-x) a part of it
4) go to Fichier -> Quitter (file -> quit)
the pop up window asking if you want to save the changes is in French.

All good.

Then (with the blop package installed):
5) open mhwaveedit with a French locale
6) go to Fichier -> Ouvrir... (file -> open...) and open an audio file
7) got to Effets -> boite à effets...
see that a part of this new window is in English
8) push the "Fermer" button ("close")
9) cut (ctrl-x) a part of the audio file
10) go to Fichier -> Quitter (file -> quit)
the pop up window asking if you want to save the changes is now in
English. Something is wrong here.

Then, uninstall the blop package:
11) open mhwaveedit with a French locale
12) go to Fichier -> Ouvrir... (file -> open...) and open an audio
file
13) got to Effets -> boite à effets...
see that a the window is now fully in French
8) push the "Fermer" button ("close")
9) cut (ctrl-x) a part of the audio file
10) go to Fichier -> Quitter (file -> quit)
now, the pop up window asking if you want to save the changes is in
French. All good.

Bug#907220: Some caps plugins are crashing

2018-08-24 Thread trebmuh

Package: caps
Version: 0.9.24-5

This has been tested on a Stretch system from the stable package version
(0.9.24-4) as well as from a home-made backport of the current
buster/sid package (0.9.24-5).

The following plugins aren't working :
- C* AmpVTS
- C* Compress
- C* CompressX2
- C* Saturate

When one of these plugins is inserted into Ardour, an audio click is
happening and the track's meters is going up in the red and stays there.

The attached patch fixes the issue on a debian stretch rebuild.
It hasn't been tried by me so far (hence this report and not a commit to
the debian salsa repository).

Notes:
1) this patch has been sent to the upstream maintainer
2) I'm copying the patch writer to this bug report, please keep him
CC'ed for any later message on this thread

Hope that helps.

Bug#864717: libffado: FTCBFS assumes host = machine architecture

2018-08-18 Thread trebmuh

Le 2017-06-13 15:19, James Cowgill a écrit :

I've adjusted the title to something a bit better.

Thank you for that, James.

The issue is that the libffado scripts assume that they can determine
the host architecture by probing the machine architecture through some
black magic (calling objdump on /bin/mount !). The x32.patch follows
this by reading "uname -m" to determine if it's running on x32 or i386.

The correct solution is to remove all of this code and just invoke
$(CC)

which in Debian package builds should be set to a suitable compiler for
the right architecture. Conveniently, there appears to an option to do
this "DETECT_USERSPACE_ENV=False", so we don't need to patch the source
and we can probably remove x32.patch after this as well (untested
though!).

As a workaround you can use "linux32 pbuilder..." when building the
package to override "uname -m". I know that sbuild already does this
for

you which is probably why none of the buildds suffer from this bug.

I'm cleaning up my inbox, and it appears that I didn't got back to you.
From memories, the "linux32 pbuilder" did the trick.

Thank you for that James.

Cheers,
Olivier

Hi Nicolas,

I've been trying a backport (stretch) rebuild of 2.4.1-0.1

Bug#895151: Guitarix update 35.2-2 (stretch) -> 36.1-1 (buster) improvement

2018-04-07 Thread trebmuh

Package: guitarix
Version: 36.1-1

While upgrading from the Stretch package (35.2-2) to the sid/buster one
(36.1-1), it doesn't update the libgxw0 and libgxwmm0 packages which are
needed by the Guitarix application.

Then, the application isn't fully functional since it requires those
libs to work with, and doesn't have those in the right version, then
missing the right versionned functions. Hence there are some errors
while using guitarix.

In d/control, adding to the binary "Package: guitarix" 's "Depends" '
field the following seems to fix the issue :

libgxw0 (>= ${source:Version}),
libgxwmm0 (>= ${source:Version}),

Please double check before applying.

Hope that helps.

flowcanvas depends on numerous obsolete GNOME 2-era libraries

flowcanvas has one reverse-dependency in Debian, gladish (src:ladish),

ladish looks to be maintained by alessio (last commit 20 Apr 2017) here

Bug#859808: composite: Composite not ready for being qualified package of Debian yet.

2017-04-08 Thread trebmuh

Hi,

if I remember correctly, one of the main goal for the Composite fork of
Hydrogen, was to get Hydrogen as a LV2 plug.
I just tried it with jalv.select, jalv, jalv.gtk, jalv.gtk3, jalv.gtkmm,
and jalv.qt and all of them gaves me :

Feature http://lv2plug.in/ns/ext/event is not supported

So I would say that the LV2 versio doesn't work.

Last commit is from March 2013 :
https://gitlab.com/composite/composite/commits/master

For my point of view, Composite doesn't bring in anything better that
what Hydrogen does. Hence I'd approve for it to be removed.

Bug#629107: hydrogen: No text in User Manual

2016-11-15 Thread trebmuh

Le 2016-11-14 12:08, James Cowgill a écrit :

Where is the source for that documentation index?

If I grep the hydrogen sources, I can't find the strings from that
image. I also tried building upstream git master and the index doesn't
work for me there either.

Hi James and all,

I've been following up with Hydrogen upstream as you can see here :
https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/issues/74

The result is that something was missing and has been corrected now.

I guess we could cherry pick up this commit :
https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/commit/99aeea17d0f8cdf0ca8b12908d6499f586257610
and use it as a debian/patches/manual.patch to allow construction

of the index which is how Hydrogen is supposed to be.

In the meantime, I've been rebuilding (pbuilder) hydrogen git master on
Debian Jessie from a debian/* close to what it was before
Jaromir started to work on the 0.9.7 version + your patch, and I can see
the menu index, the English manual, but the others links in the index
(Manuale in italiano, manual en espanol,...etc) are giving an empty
page.

Strangely enough, I can see the .po files for those in
/usr/share/hydrogen/data/doc/, but can't see the different
documentations in the same location. This is corroborated by launching
Hydrogen from the terminal and clicking on the links which gives :

QTextBrowser: No document for manual_it.html
QTextBrowser: No document for manual_es.html
QTextBrowser: No document for manual_de.html
QTextBrowser: No document for manual_fr.html
QTextBrowser: No document for manual_nl.html
QTextBrowser: No document for tutorial_en.html
QTextBrowser: No document for tutorial_it.html
QTextBrowser: No document for tutorial_fr.html
QTextBrowser: No document for manual_de.html
...

I'm don't feel really knowledgeable here, but it does look to me that
the *.html files are not generated from the *.po .

Hope that helps, and thanks for your interest.

Bug#844413: Ardour 5.4 support of the Push2 interface

2016-11-15 Thread trebmuh

Package: ardour
Version: 1:5.4.0~dfsg-2

Hi all,

I've rebuild the current packaging for Jessie and found that the build
process print this :

"You are missing the libusb-1.0 development package needed to compile
Push2 support"

Adding "libusb-1.0-0-dev" to the debian/control build-depends section
did the job for me and the support for the Push2 is included.

Hope that helps.

while you're working around the Hydrogen packaging, can I humbly
ask you to have a look at this bug :
https://bugs.debian.org/629107 ?

There is willingness upstream (which I'm part of regarding the
manual) to update and improve the bundled update manual and not
having it displayed/accessible in the GUI is frustrating.

As said in bug 629107, I've been looking at it but am not
knowledgeable/competent to resolve it. Help here would be
appreciated.

Hi Olivier,

I know about this bug and I am not ignoring it.
I already tried fix it in past without success :(
Hopefully some more skilled mate from team will give a hand with it.

How about the attached patch?

I think the original purpose of that code in debian/rules was to force
the manual to always be rebuilt. Unfortunately it moves
'manual.docbook'

out of the way (as if it was autogenerated) but it looks like this is
the master manual which is directly edited.

My alternate implementation simply touches the master manuals which
should hopefully force everything to be rebuilt as well.

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

and thanks for this patch which definitely move forward. Thanks ! (If
you'd

know the number of times I prayed for this bug to be fixed)

I tried a rebuild at home on a Debian Jessie + 0.9.7 version with this
added.

And I made one qt4 build and one qt5 build.

The outcome is that when going to : hydrogen menu -> Info -> User
manual, I've got

the user manuel (in English whatever the language I'm using).
If I then click on "Documentation index" with I expect to show me this :
https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/8705846/17536586/4797c9fc-5e96-11e6-91fb-ad40223b4fcf.png
But it doesn't.

James, Jaromir, others, any idea ?

Cheers,
Olivier

PS : thanks again James, really appreciated.

Bug#837473: whysynth package - new upstream version

2016-09-11 Thread trebmuh

Package: whysynth
Version: 20090403-1.2
Tag: patch

Dear Debian Maintainers,

Please note that there is a new upstream version from 2012. I've been
building (.deb with pbuilder) and playing it on a debian-jessie system,
and it works great.

From my home-package, I found those things :

1) we can add "libcairo2-dev" as build-depends in order to build
whysynth with nicer knobs.

2) we can drop the debian/control build-depends' "libasound-dev" which
is not available anymore in debian.

3) we can bump to debhelper (>= 9).

4) the upstream repo moved to
https://github.com/smbolton/whysynth/releases which the debian/watch
file can be pointed to I think.

5) Please, find an updated machine-readable debian/copyright

Hope that helps.

Bug#836878: amSynth : package improvement

Hi Olivier,

find these attached to this email.

I'd like to enjoy this email to talk about the debian/README.debian
file. Is it still actual ? Should it be kept or dropped ?

Thanks for your contribution!

NB: I am not the package maintainer - just throwing ideas here...:

Hand-written man pages has a high risk of getting out of sync.

I can suggest to look at help2man, for automated man page generation.

Then there is the translation. Ideally upstream would a) adopt your
translation, and b) support localized --help output, and c) we could
then extend our help2man routine to also convert translations.

Until all that is in place, a way for the packaging to ensure not
shipping out-of-sync man pages (translated or not) would be to capture
--help output at build time, compute a checksum, and if checksum fails
then fail the build with a message explaining to double-check man pages
and if ok update checksum.

 - Jonas

I agree to that idea. Unfortunately, I don't have the
competences/knowledge to do so.
So I did the best I could : sending the man pages upstream and asking
the upstream author (Nick) to have a read about what you said.

Hope that helps and thanks for sharing your idea.

Dear debian multimedia maintainer,

I can confirm that this bug is still present in the current build

the original report. You can have an overview of the current situation
by reading at https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/issues/74 .

I've been trying to find a correct solution but am getting lost
somewhere and need someone which understand better than me what the
debian/rules is supposed to be doing with those files and why it fails
to doing so.

Bug#826110: swh-plugins, vocoder-ladspa: error when trying to install together

2016-06-02 Thread trebmuh

Hi all,

Yes ... both packages shipping same plugin now ...
What would be correct solution ?
Replace Breaks Conflicts ?
Or maybe just remove vocoder-ladspa package from archive ...
If I understand right this plugin has been moved to swh-plugins
project by same people which maintain vocoder-ladspa package.

https://packages.debian.org/sid/vocoder-ladspa
https://github.com/swh/ladspa/commit/2e212812910f989e48566b2c71791bcc8db8f8ef

What's about removing vocoder-ladspa from the archive now that it has
been upstreamed by LMMS to SWH, and making LMMS depends on swh-ladspa?

2016-05-24 Thread trebmuh

Hi there,

copying the multimedia team in there since they could have some interest
on it.

I've been using ISSE a few months ago (so the same version than the one
currently available). From memories (I could be wrong here) :
1) it is crashing every now and then, especialy when trying to click
everywhere when it's computing the sound file, so can be considered
unstable (one bad point here)
2) it's dead upstream since it was a students thesis - or something
similar - project (second bad point here) but I didn't try to contact
those ex-students to check if they would have some interest in pushing
forward the developement,
3) it is the only application doing the job that I'm aware of which is,
for me, trashing the 2 bad points.

My conclusion is : it could be really great to get it into debian.

I think I saw somewhere (a someone personal repo) a package of it once
but can't remember where. I can find to dig back further in my brain if
that can be of help. Please let me know.

my french is a bit rusty, but this translation seems to be a bit too
specific (ardour is much more than just a recording tool).

according to wikipedia, the french equivalent for DAW would be "station
audionumérique"

hi,
mmm. I never liked the "DAW" definition neither in english or french
since
it refers to a cloudy definition which can talk about pretty much
everything
using computing to work with sound. Then, I usually try to avoid using
this

"DAW" thing, hence my first proposition.

Anyway, I guess this is not the right place to complain about that and
it doesn't help with your remark :)

Based on a purely formal translation : good hint IOhannes, thanks.
Actually I'd go for "station de travail audio-numérique" which is what
people are using in french when translting "DAW". ("travail" is
translating "work" from "workstation" here).

So, I'd propose :
GenericName[fr]=Station de travail audionumérique Ardour 4

Cool.
I think the best way to get this fix in Debian is for him to do a new
release. Looking at the commits it seems to me that quite a few stuff
changed, so it's not really "including a patch" in the package.
Given that this removal won't happen in the next few days, I suggest
upstream to do his own testing, update the readme, when ready cut a
release.
While you're doing all of these updates, I'd suggest also moving to
py3.

Once everything is ready I can NMU the new version, to avoid this
package being removed, but for sure I won't take the maintenance over.

I'm not really interested in this software, and furthermore I know
nothing about gstreamer, so for me it would mean losing a whole lot of
time to only start understanding what gstreamer does.

I can happily take a patch and apply it, if somebody provides me that.

Bug#792672: musescore: does not honor /etc/papersize

2015-08-17 Thread trebmuh
Talking with upstream (lasconic) a few minutes ago, he thinks that
musescore is relying on QT for this.

This bug should probably be reassigned to QT then.

That said, it would be very useful if you could check if this bug
appears only with musescore or if it's the same with other QT related
software.

Cheers.

Bug#794356: x42-plugins - ebur128 meter is crashing ardour

2015-08-01 Thread trebmuh

Package: x42-plugins
Version: 20150702

Short version : the EBUR128 meter is crashing Ardour.
Long version : the plugin loads fine in the mixer strip, the crash
occurs when you double-click on it to get the GUI. As a side-note, the
GUI shows up fine when launched as a standalone app (x42-meter 0).

I've been talking with upstream a few days ago (Robin is attached to
this email) and a fix has been found and released on github. Please see
:
https://github.com/x42/meters.lv2/commit/aa4b83f9d3d5bd76836fe762c4c5636136d073d7

I've been rebuilding (with pbuilder) the package from the debian source
here on a Debian Jessie and it works fine.

Suggestion is to add this patch to the current package.

Best,
Olivier

Bug#793505: Xjadeo - obsolete PDF in the package

2015-07-24 Thread trebmuh

Package: xjadeo
Version: 0.8.0-2

Talking with upstream today, it does look that the PDF documentation
(introduced back in september 2010 by Alessio in this commit
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-multimedia/xjadeo.git/commit/?id=639142cf16fce704d6d58e96ae262f4fe7a0bc96
) is by far outdated. Eg: the qt GUI no longer exists, openGL is not
mentioned, etc..
In addition, there is nowaday an online resource automatically build at
each release which is much more relevant for any curious user.

Suggestion is to drop it.

Best,
Olivier

Bug#792672: Assertion error in meters.lv2

2015-07-23 Thread trebmuh

De: Miguel A. Colón Vélez
Objet: Bug#792672: Assertion error in meters.lv2

Package: x42-plugins
Version: 20150702-1

Hello:

Someone at the #debian-multimedia channel dropped this report

olinuxx Hi guys, I've a bug to report against x42-plugins
olinuxx the meters, both as LV2 or standalone app (x42-meter) who
are normaly displaying a needle are segfaulting
olinuxx using them in ardour crash it
olinuxx the error log is : x42-meter: ./gui/needle.c:118: void
img2surf(const MyGimpImage*, cairo_surface_t**, unsigned char**):
Assertion `ys + xs (img-width * img-height +
img-bytes_per_pixel)' failed.
olinuxx (you can get it trying x42-meter 6 as an example)
olinuxx this is the case with a fresh Jessie install with the
backport from stretch, as well as a fresh Stretch install
olinuxx I didn't looked deep yet into BTS reporting, so I'm putting
that here, hopefully, someone will pick it up

I looked at the source and the fix is trivial. It should be * and
not + as in:
-assert (ys + xs  (img-width * img-height + img-bytes_per_pixel));
+assert (ys + xs  (img-width * img-height * img-bytes_per_pixel));

ys + xs is a sequence that accumulates the total number of bytes and it
goes

img-bytes_per_pixel, img-bytes_per_pixel*1, img-bytes_per_pixel*2,
...

img-bytes_per_pixel*(img-width * img-height -1)

It seems upstream wanted to bound ys + xs by the next value in the
sequence which is (img-width * img-height * img-bytes_per_pixel).
This makes the assertion always true since it will be short of the
upper bound by at least img-bytes_per_pixel.

Upstream's commit suggest that there may be another issue
https://github.com/x42/meters.lv2/commit/70497bb8b77aa5ddf13801b0a1472525cfbe42e7
with array boundaries but that is independent of this report.

I have never run or compiled these plugins but the math seems to add
up. Hope my pseudo-patch helps.

Cheers,
Miguel

Hi all (olinuxx here),

I've been talking with Robin Gareus (upstream) over IRC today. He's
copied to this email.

The outcomes is : the lines assert... can be totally removed and have
beendone so upstream :
https://github.com/x42/meters.lv2/commit/a52aca646c18d0356c9ed81f8721f594e3ef13bc

As well, Robin suggested to remove the fast-math optimisation
(debian/rules) since (quoting Robin) :

ffast-math is not good
that can result in the meters being wrong by half a dB or so. depends
-ffast-math don't care about accuracy, be fast.
and with small numbers there can be a discrepancy then convert to dB
and it'll be even larger

I rebuild the package on my computer using the debian sources and
pbuilder and it looks to be doing the job, ie: not segfaulting anymore.

Hope this email helps and thanks to you all for the jobs done.
Cheers.
Olivier
