I can confirm that it doesn't work, but it also doesn't work in xterm.
I believe that this is a function of bash and not gnome-terminal. The
webpages I've found say Control-B moves back one character. The same
is true for Ctrl-F.What I have found is that the correct emacs key
to move back
Can you attach a screenshot of this? I think you may be using a tool
other than gnome-nettool.

Okay, a few more questions:
1) Your report mentions 12.04, 11.04, and then 11.10. Which version are
you using?
2) The issue as it seems to me is that gnome-nettool, aka Network
Tools shows you have eth0 and Network Connections does not. If you run
ifconfig, do you see eth0? I'm trying to
In this case gnome-nettool is correct and Network Connections aka nm-
connection-editor is not. Therefore I'm moving this over to network-
manager-gnome and will look first for a duplicate. Thanks for your

The button is only shown if you are in the admin group. On one of my
laptops, my user is, on another fresh install, it is not. I do not know
why that is, but the logic needs to be re-examined:
