issue 127553 (was: 4.1.4 show stopper!)
This is a very good description. Mathias, have you already copied it to Bugzilla? (I've also tested with business cards, but this one looks more generic). Done. https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127553 But 4.1.4 isn't available for version in bugzilla. Neither as »Version« nor as »Latest Confirmation in«. So I think, this way isn't an easy and good way. Simply let 4.1.4 as is but don't let it (official) free. Create a 4.1.5-RC1 (or maybe 4.1.4-RC5 if possible) with this patch, and if no further errors announce 4.1.5. Builds are on SourceForge but they've never been distributed and they can be replaced by new builds. 4.1.4 is tagged but SVN tags can be deleted and recreated. Not best practice, but surely feasible. Remember that the amount of code changes needed to produce something named 4.1.5 is quite significant and very much error-prone. Take a look at the relevant issues in case, but for a "quick fix" I would definitely stick to 4.1.4, produce 4.1.4-RC5 and vote on RC5, while undoing what we did for 4.1.4-RC4. Note: I'm writing all of the above without having had the time to look at the patch or test. I'll do that this evening, European time. I have still to understand the importance of this bug too - I assume this affects potentially many users, otherwise we can go the slippery way of "fix just another small bug" for ages. Re: recently opened files change max entries
Hello Peter! I thought about this a little. I think to mix up both behaviours is not simple anymore for users. I dislike the implicity of the approach. For a new user it is not transperent that OpenOffice will take the recent document into account. Hmm. Have you ever used the URL field? Since it is hidden per default I think that most users don't know what they could do with this. There would be no new mixup. If you click at the arrow of the dropdown box you get a long history. But If you write inside the URL bar you will get (only) autocomplete results for your file system – but for this you must type the complete path. If you type something that not begins with a path/URL identifier you get nothing. And at this point AOO should simply look into the history what filenames matches with this input. what I could imagine would be a virtual folder Recent documents, that would contain a list with all entries from recent document List. You can work with this folder and search as you are used to. Why? This list exists inside the URL field! Re: recently opened files change max entries
Hello Peter! Thanks for your Brainstorm. I checked and if you select an Open Document option, and start to type a recent document its already autocompleting. Yes. But this autocompleteing works at your file system (this is good!) but not for the history. You are suggesting to replace it with a dropdown that shows a filtered recent Document list? Is this what you are suggesting? Not really. In a Linux/Unix system a path always begins with / (in Windows with :\). So my proposal is: 1. The behaviour of now (leave it unchanged):¹ If one type the beginning of a path → autocompletion. Please consider that you can change the offer with cursor up/down. Example: If you write »/D« AOO completes to »/Documents« with »ocuments« highlighted. Press [↓] it will change to »/Downloads« with »ownloads« highlighted. Or open ([Alt]+[↓]) the dropdown list with the matching paths/filenames. Select the desired folder with [↓]/[↑] and press [→]. Repeat until you have selected the right file and press [Enter]. 2. Additional(!) behaviour (wish): If one type the beginning of a filename (without any path identification) /then/ there should open a dropdown with the matching /filenames/ from the history. Example: If you write »m« open a list with |/minions.odt |/minions2.ods |/my file1.odt |[…] aso. With the next letter the search will refined. With [↓]/[↑] one can go through the list and press [Enter] for the selected entry. Or simply click on it with the mouse cursor. Number 1 works (as I know) only for the file system. Number 2 respects all protocols (http, ftp, …) you have used and which are in the history. Regards, Mathias ¹ At the moment there seems to be a bug. If one types the beginning of a path and one afterward delete this input, the history doesn't come back – there stays the list with the matching paths/files. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Re: recently opened files change max entries
Hello! I think the number of entrys should be configurable in the settings. If you thinking in this direction I have also a suggestion. I have the “Load URL” field visible inside the Standard tool bar. This have many advantages: 1. A very longer history. 2. AutoCompletion for URLs. (directories/file) 3. Because under Ubuntu it is impossible to open files by dragging it from the file manager to the title bar (like under Windows), I can drag the file to the URL field and hit [Enter]. But I have a wish for this: It would be very(!) nice if I could begin to write a filename and the URL field would suggest/list the hits in the history. I also often move my files after editing. When I click on the list of recently opened files most of them are not accessible any more. For the URL field I wish it like in firefox: scroll to the desired entry and press ([Shift]+)[Del]. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Deleting_autocomplete_entries Regards, Mathias - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Re: Increase the number of tables in Calc
If one creates daily reports at seperate sheets and want to collect the reports for one year in one document then this enhancement is very useful. When do older versions of AOO warn “This document was created with a newer version? […]” There is no need for sarcasm. AOO have this warning since years – but I don't know the mechanism behind. Sometimes I get this message with an actual version of AOO if I open a document which was created with LO. OOo2.x/3.x shows this message also for documents which was created with newer OOo/AOO version. Maybe this message was already introduced in the StarOffice time. And this message was introduced to warn users of possible loss. I don't know if there is a special document version string or if simply the AOO version is written into the document. So my question is >> Must the main version number increased for such a change? to trigger this message? If you know more then please let us know. There is no guide for understanding what users can do and what they should not do! There is no hint for the very first step to find user forums for questions and discussions! I'm not sure what to do. Probably a short note is not wrong, but a longer explanations belong more to the local pages, such as: http://www.openoffice.org/de/dev/pre_submission_de.html I am also not sure whether longer explanations will bring much, for e.g. the German community (de-aoo) has tried for years to explain how to use our mailing lists correctly, unfortunately only with little success. The problem is that nobody knows how the people comes to issuezilla. Maybe a simple search at a search engine shows at first issuezilla. So you can provide informations where you want – the user will not get it. So the simpliest way IMO is to ask the potential new subscriber (a draft!) – If you need help for using AOO? Please got to https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/ or look for a forum in your language at https://forum.openoffice.org/. – You have found a technical issue inside AOO? Re: Community building: give our User a chance to contribute!
I am puzzled a little bit about the idea of "loyalty to the original" OpenOffice. 1. The original OpenOffice.org was operated by a proprietary company, although the code was made available as open-source. But ownership was held by Sun Microsystems for their proprietary purposes. There was great value to OpenOffice.org, but not so much because it was open-source. I think key benefits were support for ODF format, multiple-platform support, and degree of support for Microsoft formats. There was no open-source governance in this arrangement. When LibreOffice forked that code, as the license allowed, some were unhappy in any case. 2. When Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems, OpenOffice.org became their property in the same manner as at Sun. 3. When Oracle concluded that continuation of OpenOffice.org was not in their interests, they chose to grant the ASF a license to use the code base and to provide it under a license of the ASF's choosing (always Apache License of course). This is how Apache OpenOffice arose. AOO became Apache Project after being in Apache Incubator. People interested in supporting OpenOffice.org signed-up to contribute to the incubator and some formed the original Project Management Committee for AOO. AOO has always been an Apache Project. What "original OpenOffice" is thought of here? The „original“ was StarOffice. And yes, you described right the way of the „original“ OpenOffice – as I understand it as a user (with many contacts to StarDivision/Sun/Oracle) using StarOffice/OpenOffice for over 20 years. Re: Community building: give our User a chance to contribute!
Many companies need to import MS document formats. They don't have the choice to teach all customers to send an other document format. That might be the case in the United States, but in Europe, the legal requirement is to use ODF file formats. I can only speak for my experiences in Germany. Re: Community building: give our User a chance to contribute!
Hello, You all talking about the standalone product. It is a good point but only a piece. Many companies need to import MS document formats. They don't have the choice to teach all customers to send an other document format. So for the acceptance there is a big need to improve the import filters. As I remember this was the most important topic before IMB left the AOO community. And this is also a big problem for many, many users and companies (government, insurance, advocate, handicraft and so on), who are working with special software which is producing files in MS document formats. Many software uses explicit MSO to produce this files. For this clientele mostly all features that AOO provides is enough, mostly more as enough - BUT import of MS document format and/or using AOO as front-end for the specialised software is missing and is the main reason against AOO. Re: [DISCUSS] Issue 125954 unhiding "hidden" content on e-mail send of document
As I remember the behaviour was changed long time ago (maybe in the time of StarOffice before OpenOffice) as a security issue. I a workflow inside a company it is possible, that a user doesn't know something about hidden text. And with the option of serial emails it could be a big data security issue. If one would send the whole document, there is only a little step more to send it from the file manager or add it in the mail application. So the question is, send the /content/ or the whole /document/? And this question could be asked before creating/sending the email. There should be no checkbox inside the options of AOO. [QUESTION] rights to change Priority, Importance and Severity of an issue
Hello! In my opinion it would be a good idea if /Priority/, /Importance/ and /Severity/ of an issue can only be changed by people who has at least can-confirm-rights. Yes, also and in special the reporter of an issue (if he hasn't can-confirm-rights) shouldn't can change the defaults! (same for /Developer Difficulty/) Is this possible? What do you think about? Re: Basic editor and key-words
There is a difference between reserved words and (predefined) function names. This belongs to ALL programming languages. LBound and UBound are not reserved words. OK the goal is to help programmers So we can have a different color for predefined functions? I don't think that it would make sense. How can the names be passed to the parser? Maybe all names will collected in a separate array. But what is with own SUBs and FUNCTIONs? What is with SUBs and FUNCTIONs inside available modules and provided by some extensions? What is with the methods of an object? Maybe there will be a powerful IDE like Eclipse or NetBeans that can do an online parsing. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org

[API] Priority Problem with AND and OR
Hello! I stumbled into a priority problem with the boolean operators AND and OR. I cannot find any documentation for this. First mathematical examples. With MsgBox( 3 * 2 ^ 2 ) you will see, that ^ has a higher priority than *. (2 ^ 2) = 4 4 * 3 = 12 With MsgBox( (3 * 2) ^ 2 ) you will get the right result 6 ^ 2 = 36. With MsgBox( 3 + 4 * 3 ) you will see, that * has a higher priority than +. (4 * 3) = 12 3 * 12 = 36 With MsgBox( (3 + 4) * 3 ) you will get the right result 7 * 3 = 21. Now looking at the same logic with logical operators. Dim bResult As Boolean bResult = TRUE Or FALSE And TRUE MsgBox( bResult ) bResult = TRUE Or TRUE And FALSE MsgBox( bResult ) What do you expect? For logical operations AND is equivalent to * and OR is equivalent to +. AND should have a higher priority than OR, so I would expect in both cases (because TRUE Or () = TRUE): bResult = TRUE But you will get TRUE Or FALSE And TRUE = (TRUE Or FALSE) And TRUE = TRUE TRUE Or TRUE And FALSE = (TRUE Or TRUE) And FALSE = FALSE Is there any explanation that AND and OR have (and should have) the same priority? At the moment always Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.2_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_de.tar.gz is missing in https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/4.1.2-rc1-r1705606/binaries/de/ When will a build be available for testing? Those builds will come with RC2, it is easier to do so than re-upload the missing files in RC1. If there interest in testing that version as soon as possible, I can probably make one RC2 installer (like: the 64-bit Linux DEB installer, German version) available for download from my people.apache.org space in a few hours. This is exactly the same file that will be on https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/ when all builds are completed and uploaded. Do you want to have it available early? Re: reload of registered template directories (by extension)
I created an extension with templates in it. The template path is registered via Paths.xcu. In general it works. But the problem is, that the templates must be reloaded before. For me this is a bug. AOO should update the template structure itself if an extension provides a template path. Sorry, must correct myself. All is working. The problem was, that the quickstarter was active, but under Ubuntu (64) 14.04 there is no quickstarter visible. So AOO wasn't complete closed and the configuration was not updated. As a workaround: how can I update the templates via API? In other words: what is the API equivalent for File → Templates → Organise…: (Commands) Update ? Re: [Q] Question about Mailarchive
Hello Andrea! All things against spambots are good things, isn't it? Still this wouldn't solve the problem, since other mirroring services are not guaranteed to conceal addresses. This will result into the question who owns the data and who have the right to mirror public the messages. But this is another discussion. I note that Bugzilla is the first forum for me that post ALL of its registered usernames and corresponding email addresses via mail archive to the internet. Thank you! Re: [Q] Question about Mailarchive
Hello Dennis! Thank you again! Maybe my english is too bad, so we are talking about different things. Sorry for some misunderstanding. Let me make a last try. As mentioned separately, the email addresses of contributors to the Bugzilla are visible to anyone having an account, and that satisfies the ASF requirements for transparency. No problem, I agree. Although the HTML files obscure the email addresses, they can still be harvested from the raw HTML, and the CC: lists are not obscured at all (and are visible to non-subscribers). Example: https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=3560 If I look at the HTML source I can't find any email address. The CC list: baumux bob-openoffice bugger_aoo chris_mux […] Maybe you have looked at a cached version where you was logged in? Although email addresses are not strong identifiers of individuals, association of email addresses with contributors works well enough for Apache purposes, in practice. Maybe it was my fault to use the word "hide". I better should wrote "shorten". Look at your precedent message at http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-dev/201506.mbox/%3C009c01d0b351%2419fa95c0%244defc140%24%40acm.org%3E So you will see that your email address is shortened to . My email address inside the quoted text isn't shortened. Now look at http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-issues/201507.mbox/%3Cbug-126388-248469-ZzlQH5cCPb%40https.bz.apache.org%2Fooo%2F%3E You will see that the sender email address from issuezilla is shortened to bugzi...@apache.org But the original sender address from Regina and all other email addresses inside aren't shortened. So what I want to know is: Is there a possibility that all email addresses in mail archive are shortened, so that no spambot can use it? (It would be a nice thing if also quoted email addresses in messages in bugzilla itself for not logged in visitors are shortened.) I think there should be a possibility and has nothing to do with privacy statements and in my opinion it would be a good thing for all subscribers. Hello! A special case is bugzilla. Bugzilla not intends to be a mailing list. It seems it is a closed forum which shows sender addresses only for people who are logged in. There is a "relationship" between Basic.ID and Dues.ID I can enter data into the Basic table but cannot enter data intothe Dues table. Yes it is better to ask such questions in a user forum. At this time there was no IssueZilla. Meanwhile IssueZilla is full of printing issues. Yes, I can add a new one. But this makes sense only if there are any developer interested in. [BUG] printing issue with correct paper size (margins)
Hello! I'm using AOO under Ubuntu (Linux64) and print onto an HP Photosmart D7260. Printing itself is not a problem. But the driver (HPlip) knows several settings for each page size because the printer supports borderless printing. For A4 there are the paper size entries A4 210x297mm A4 Small Margins 210x297mm A4 Borderless 210x297mm If I select A4 Small Margins 210x297mm AOO ignores it and uses always A4 210x297mm (with big margins). If I select A4 Borderless 210x297mm in the printer settings AOO stores this selection but uses also A4 210x297mm for printing. :-( I can select A4 Borderless 210x297mm in the settings of the print dialog and and print with this settings. After reading your answer I found the icons. :-) They are placed above the search field therefore for me they looked liked as action icons (support mail/form, voting via g+) so I ignored them. I suggest that https://forum.openoffice.org/ should be extended with the user mailing lists (only user! no dev/qa/…!) to have the supporting ways in one place for near all languages. Language (ID) - User Forum - User Mailing List To avoid too many requests from unsubscribed senders, we shouldn't simply list all mailing lists. This is a good reason, but (1) http://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html and (2) http://openoffice.apache.org/native-lang.html provide the direct posting addresses. So IMO it would be better to have a help text how to use mailinglists like "Using Mailing Lists" and "Participation Guidelines" at (1) but with the first step: "To use a mailinglist you have to subscribe to this mailing lists!" In the table there should only a mailto-link to the list-subscribe@... and a link to only one mail archive for this list. col1: Language (ID) col2: User Forum col3: Subscription Link to Mailing List col4: Link to Mail Archive right beside the table: How to use mailinglists Regards, Mathias - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Re: problem with current (August) mail archive for users
Hello Andrea! If I open the August archive for openoffice-users mailing list I get no messages in threaded view. http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openoffice-users/201408.mbox/browser Confirmed, but actually it's enough to click on "Message list" to see messages. The archives are not under our control. I opened https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-8234 for Infra to check and you may follow that one. It's also possible that Infra concludes that this is some obscure bug of the underlying software, in which case you should report the issue to mbox-dev at httpd.apache.org (the dev list for that project). Re: [RELEASE]: propose RC2 on revision 1616946
Could the first column be split into one column for the language name and one for the ISO-code and the tables sorted by one of this columns? This would the find make much easier. it could but confluence is a piece of shit and I have to save so many times until it is really saved correct that I personally don't have interest to edit it for now. For the future it can be taken into account. Thank you. Now I located the mouse cursor at first time over the heading row of the table and found the (hidden) sort buttons (arrows). :-) One click at "Language" and Galician (gl) < German (de) < Greek (el) It's the better view. Maybe that class="sortableHeader"> could be defined and saved as default. In the tables there is "German (de)" located between "Czech (cs)" and "Danish (da)". But: Czech < Danish < German and: cs < da < de. Re: [HOMEPAGE][PROPOSAL] Alert box on top of webpage to announce important events
Hello Marcus! I like the fresh design of the download page. So I assembled my suggestions with your proposal in the attached picture. 1. Because there are more than one versions of AOO to download, there is no version after "I want to download Apache OpenOffice". Instead 2. The new version alert is placed into the download box. 3. No destroy of the layout by the important message. 4. "Click here to see who it is" is now not necessary if there will be a hover "»" like in the other boxes. It is a formatting and open-import issue. If we have no fix in hand or the fix we have is with risk, I will not nominate it as candidate of 4.1.1 showstopper. Re: [Lazy Consensus] link to a german forum
It is bad that there is no DE subforum. But linking to http://de.openoffice.info is a bit problematic in my opinion. The reason is the combination of OOo and LO; it is not a main AOO forum. And where is the apache rule that says that? My opinion isn't an Apache rule. And vice versa. I'm not against to support AOO and LO in one place. But from the point of view of the project AOO there should be a stringent separation between this two apart drifting projects. That is imho not true. Whenever I read discussions on this, it is emphasized that there should be the widest possible cooperation between AOO and LO. Read the first sentence of the paragraph above. That anybody or any site supports the software AOO and LO has nothing to do with a cooperation between the projects AOO and LO. It is only a few months ago that I heard by a third party that Jürgen (Schmidt) was commended for which he has represented precisely this opinion in a public lecture, or does not correspond to the facts? I'm not Jürgen. The user must understand that LO<>AOO and the space between will get bigger. Oh, _i_ think the user must understand that AOO and LO are both free software. And I say this even though I am critic of the TDF. But to be critics of the TDF, it means not to be critics of LO. Yes, but this is not against my opinion. It is only a possible addition. But maybe I should clarify that I meant the distance between the the software AOO and LO. And that a problem with the software should be reported at the right place. Re: AOO snapshot on Ubuntu and GLIBC_2.15
Building on Linux is quite painless. You could also give a try to building yourself. https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide_AOO/Step_by_step#Ubuntu_12.04 needs some obvious updates (and it doesn't work verbatim for 14.04, see this list's archives and bugzilla about 14.04) but is quite straightforward. Not with my Laptop. The next release would be earlier. ;-) If you are going to give it a try, we can give you further guidance. With a new powerful computer (hopefully this year) I can give it a try. But on the new computer there will run also a new Ubuntu system. With virtual machines for testing other systems. :-) Regards, Mathias - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
