Re: Windows developent plan
Hi - If this is done then I would suggest that we include a feature to make use of a version of checker.apache.org <http://checker.apache.org/> to allow for testing to see that the package being installed is the one that came from the AOO community and not from a repackager. Hi - What version of Java we use is a concern on Mac and Linux too. This discussion needs separation from a Windows development discussion. This could be a candidate for your “Agile Board” demo. Research and project wide informed decisions are needed. Regards, Dave > On Feb 19, 2018, at 1:59 AM, Peter Kovacs wrote: > > Interessting! Interessting! Should be our goal that our Java Code works on Java 8 and 9 environments? I understand the bug https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123427 that it is a request for MSI only installer. We could build such a installer with the Wix framework. Any objections? I have updated the points on the Point of Interest page in CWiki. https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=67633711 On 19.02.2018 10:40, Torokhov Sergey wrote: Please, note that Java 9 is not LTS release and it's support ends in March of 2018! : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html while Java 8 will be supported at least untill January 2019 and December 2020: See "End of Public Updates for Oracle JDK 8" section for link above: End of Public Updates for Oracle JDK 8 As outlined in the Oracle JDK Support Roadmap below, Oracle will not post further updates of Java SE 8 to its public download sites for commercial use after January 2019. Customers who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 8 or previous versions can get long term support through Oracle Java SE Advanced, Oracle Java SE Advanced Desktop, or Oracle Java SE Suite. All other users are recommended to upgrade to the latest major releases of the Oracle JDK or OpenJDK. Oracle does not plan to migrate desktops from Java 8 to later versions via the auto update feature. Providing fixes/updates at a low cost is a critical contribution for breaking down the digital divide. In addition automatic partial updates are better for inexperienced users since they only require a one time full install (usually performed by a friend/family who is more computer savvy) Best, Pedro

That would be a great evolution for AOO (LO has finally added that feature in version 6). In fact saving people from downloading a full installer would be useful on all OSes... Re: Re: Windows developent plan
You can specify a toolchain even in MSVC2017 to use such that the compiled exe still works on Windows XP; I do this for my own work as I see no reason to arbitrarily disbar its use on older systems - it's up to each user to decide whether to upgrade or not. Even when signing is complicated as at the moment we need to start at zero (analysis and development) it's the top priority as it would show a much better integration into modern Windows releases. Windows developent plan
Hi all, I would like to bring up 2 future issues we will have. # Java : Soon Java 8 will run out of support. Do we need to "migrate" to 9 for 4.2.0? # If so it would mean for windows that we need to migrate to 64 bit. # The MSVC2008 will run out in April. We need to upgrade here too. In what order would make it sense to tackle those Issues? 1) 64 transformation 2) upgrade from MSVC2008 3) upgrade code base to Java 9 ? We need to make a plan, any further thoughts? - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
