Maybe somebody could modify an earlier generation iPod (the ones that still supported firewire which is peer to peer unlike USB) with RockBox, iPod Linux, or something similar and then you might be able to access external FLAC HDDs and play them through the iPod. -- Nikhil -

Adam .. I was thinking a bit more about your problem. Taking the FLAC HDD to work is the only way you can have lossless music there. I doubt you will be able to stream FLAC from home to work, unless you have really high bandwidth at both ends. So if you were going to do real time transcoding to mp

You guys need to get new jobs :) that are less restrictive with their IT use policies. What you guys need is a digital audio player that support lossless formats like FLAC AND ALSO can access external HDDs using USB otg and/or firewire. Is there anything like that? -- Nikhil --

I think the external HD must be the way to go; the backup aspect is even more important than the ability to listen. So the question becomes: - I have WMP installed. Can I get FLAC codecs, do we think? Can't run an exe file, so is there a way to get WMP to install the codec for me? I can have

You can buy a 250gb external drive for less than $100. I did that just to have a backup for my flac files and then ended up taking it to work and using a small-footprint player (musikCube) on my laptop to play through powered speakers. I also downloaded CD Art Display, so I have a little popup w
