Will a clean install of 6.5 fix this?

I'd imagine yes. If you once installed with the automatic startup feature,
updates possibly just replace the files, but don't change the service

Hi

Yes, as you are using that track/album as the seed for the mix.

Depending whether you run MusicIP in headless mode or use the GUI, you
can also create a mix in MusicIP and right-click on the Send To and
select Slimserver.

If the Send To - Slimserver is not there, then you need to ensure that
MusicIP and Slimserver are starting up in the correct order, you can
find information about this in the forums.

Cheers

I always thought an interesting plugin to write would be a 'related artist'

More that related artists (or even what AllMusic has with 'influenced

In Jazz, if you hear a great guitar part on an album of Saxophone, I
want to know who the guitarist is. And what albums s/he is on.

And listen to them, or buy them.

I could also see this for types of classical. Say you are listening to
Muti and the Philly Symph Orch doing a standard repertoire piece, say
Beethoven's Eroica, it would be great to be able to see both which
other conductors led the PSO on this, and which other orchestras had
recorded this with Muti

Now that 6.5 has MySql, it is fairly easy to add this, as long as we can
beat the scanner into not breaking the database. There can be critical
information that is not in the tags of the music.

I think it would be useful to be able to combine searching and
browsing.

Specially in Jazz the artist name is not at as meaningful as in rock.
Many artist name tags might be:
Oscar Peterson Trio
Oscar Peterson and Ben Webster
Duke Ellington and Oscar Peterson
etc etc

It would then be useful to be able to browse the resultset of a search
of artist names containing Oscar Peterson.

Similarly it would be handy to be able to browse the resultset of two
genres. eg browse through bop and hard bop or reggae and dub.

I think the problem arises due to the limitation of tagging. It would
be useful if a track could have many genre and artist tags. Of course
it could be that I haven't tagged my music correctly.

A bandmembers or musicians tag(s) would be useful.
I'd hate to type them all in though. Do they exist in any of the

Related artists and members of groups are available at a few sites;
http://www.allmusic.com/ provides a reasonable collection, but I've
seen quite a number of people question its accuracy, etc. Also,
querying allmusic is a matter of page scraping which really isn't all
that fun (or reliable).

In the past I've uesd the 'mood' information from the allmusic site to
create a whole new menu within SlimServer for browsing by the moods.
However, the moods it provides are per-artist, not per track, and so
whilst they might seem descriptive on the face of it, when taken as a
whole within the context of a reasonable sized music collection they're
not all that useful. http://gerph.org/diary/diary-aug.html#10_Aug_2006
has more information about the experiment. However, that's not quite
related to what was being asked about.

I had, a little while back, toyed with the idea of a plugin that let
you traverse artist relations; so you could go to an artist and see a
menu of the members, and from there you could go to groups that they
have been in, and from there to the members of that group, and the
groups they've been in, etc. Or the same for the 'similar groups'. I
came to the conclusion that the best way to do it would be to write a
special server to provide the relational information, rather than to
put the information either into every file as an ID3v2 frame, or within
the local directory structure. Then I went and did something else.

[slim] MUSICIP Mix method

2006-09-26 Thread rtrimarchi

Hello everyone,
I have installed SS 6.5.0 and music IP 1.7.
I am sure it might sound a stupid question but I am getting crazy on
it...Please I need some help from you experts
My audio files are on a media server on my home network.
The name of the server is media. and the folders are shared.
\\media\mp3
\\media mp3 preferiti
On the same server I have both programs running.
I have finished validation with music IP and now 99% of the songs are
enabled for musicip Mixthe rest cannot be validated for some
reason.
At least this is what music ip tells me...
When I go to slimserver, and I browse via the music folders option, I
see no songs MIP ready therefore I cannot request an MIP Mix.
Also, I only have a few playlists on this folder \\media\playlists, and
for some reason, SS recognize those few playlists as MIP ready (little
mm icon shows up).
At this point how am I supposed to start a MIP mix if browsing via
Music folders gives me no MIP ready songs ???

The only MIP ready things I have are those few playlists I created
but I thought that i should be able to start a mix from ANY song I have
(validated) on my music folder ???

Am I wrong or I got some sort of problems ???

Thanks in advance, Ric

Yes, this has been discussed in detail in the past on this list, when
the original Random Mix plugin was being developed. For example,
consider the Ryko release of Ziggy Stardust. Most of the album is tagged

Gerph, I guess we'll just have to wait till fixed media becomes more
popular, I am sure the band information mustcome online at some point.
For jazz I often get the feeling that there are only 50 or so artists

[slim] SoftSqueeze 3.0 Double Button Presses

Hi,

I'm using SoftSqueeze 3.0, SlimServer 6.5.0, Sun Java 1.5.0_06.

Very often (but not always) pressing one of the buttons on the
SoftSqueeze remote results in a double button press -- I'll press the
button once, and SoftSqueeze responds as if I've pressed it twice.

As far as I can tell this is happening only with the central arrow
buttons. In any case, it can make navigating pretty annoying.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I couldn't find anything.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling SoftSqueeze and the problem
persists.

ways you would like to browse your music that is not possible with the

Try to include a menu hierarchy example in your idea to make it easier
to understand how you would like it to work
Genres
- List of genres, ignore itemsperpage
-- Albums within genre, sorted by artist, year
--- Tracks within album

Years
- List of years, sorted in DESCENDING order, ignore itemsperpage
-- Albums within year, sorted by artist
--- Tracks within album

The key is the ability to select a hierarchy and a unique sort order
(unlike the current sorting implementation) within the hierarchy.

I've been playing with CustomBrowse and like it, but editing the XML
files to modify the behavior obviously isn't ideal. If you could
create a user interface for designing a hierarchy and sort order, then
that would be tits.

Also, I'd love to have the ability to put a custom browse up on the
home menu, rather than needing to go through another menu layer. Any
chance this could become a core part of SlimServer's interface, rather
than a plugin?

A couple of other points:

In the gallery view of albums, you should display artist and year with
the album name.

Until the browse paging and alphapagebar are fixed, all browsing that
uses the alphapagebar is of limited use at best. IMO, this is really a
critical bug right now.

Re: [slim] How would you like to browse your music ?

2006-09-26 Thread Marc Sherman

erland wrote:

I'm looking for ideas of new type of browse menus to include with the
Custom Browse plugin. So I would like to get some ideas of different
ways you would like to browse your music that is not possible with the
current version of slimserver.

Try to include a menu hierarchy example in your idea to make it easier
to understand how you would like it to work, for example:

Genres
- (List of genres)
-- (List of artists within the selected genre)
--- (List of albums for selected artist within selected genre)
(List of tracks on selected album, artist and genre)

So how would you like to browse your music ?

Here's what I want to see -- I'd like to be able to partition my
collection with pre-defined genre filters. The filters would be
configurable in the web-UI, preferably with an array of tri-states (ie:
each genere can be included or excluded, not just included like in the
Random Mix). Each filter would have a configurable title (which is how
it would show up in the browse tree).

For bonus points, add a Random Mix feature for each Genre filter.

For _even more_ bonus points, somehow make it so that each of those
Random Mix features can be optionally assigned a shortcut on the remote,
say Hold N (where N is one of the number keys).

Filtered Trees
- My Music (Rock,Pop,Funk,New Wave,Indy,Avant-Garde,!Bonus)
-- (List of artists who match the genre filter)
--- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year)
(List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album)
-- Random Album Mix in My Music (Hold 1)
-- Random Song Mix in My Music
- Wifes Music (Folk,Hiphop,Pop,Indy,!LPD,!Bonus)
-- (List of artists who match the genre filter)
--- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year)
(List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album)
-- Random Album Mix in Wifes Music (Hold 2)
-- Random Song Mix in Wifes Music
- Kids Music (Childrens,!Bonus)
-- (List of artists who match the genre filter)
--- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year)
(List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album)
-- Random Album Mix in Kids Music (Hold 3)
-- Random Song Mix in Kids Music
- Lullabies (Lullaby,!Bonus)
-- (List of artists who match the genre filter)
--- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year)
(List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album)
-- Random Album Mix in Lullabies (Hold 4)
-- Random Song Mix in Lullabies
- Bonus Tracks (Bonus)
-- (List of artists who match the genre filter)
--- (List of albums for selected genre filter/artist, sorted by year)
(List of tracks for selected genre filter/artist/album)
-- Random Album Mix in Bonus Tracks
-- Random Song Mix in Bonus Tracks

What do you think about that?

[slim] Re: MUSICIP Mix method

2006-09-26 Thread davep

Try browsing by artist or album rather than by music folder. The latter
is just a straightforward browse of the directory structure and does
not make use of the tags or any other cleverness associated with the
tracks.

When you go to an artist, album or track in the normal Browse method
then you will see the small m symbol and can use your selection to
seed a mix. Just press and hold the 'Play' button on the remote and
you should see the mix being created. You then have to start it
playing by releasing the 'Play' button and pressing it normally again.

Okey good.

Lets hope they are interested in fixing this tag bug, but I dought it.
In my opinion these kind of companies (Slim Devices, Roku Labs, Cowon,

launch prototypes rather than products all the time. And yes these bugs
can be fixed afterwards in fw upgrades. The ambition is good, but before
you know it the vendors are focsuing on new products and the old ones
are forgotten and left out in the cold. I would say that it is only
major bugs that that will be fixed and in this world it means mp3
related ones, forget about the other formats.

For example, in the SB 3 owner's guide it says that fast forward and
rewind is supported. To this day these functions are still not working
with wma files, but with mp3 files they do. It doesn't say that there
are restrictions to these funcions when using the supported flac, wav,

What a good idea. It would take a while to assign genres to 15,000

[slim] Re: How would you like to browse your music ?

2006-09-26 Thread erland

Your ideas are all great, keep more comming.
Some comments regarding some of the already posted ideas:

BERNT
- Your idea to sort albums by year when an artist already has been
selected in the parent menu seems logical, I will change this.

GUSI
- Searching is out of scope for the Custom Browse plugin at the
moment.

DR LOVEGROVE
- Releated information is currently not in the slimserver database
which also makes your idea out of the scope at the moment, a great idea
though if the relation information could be retreived from some web
site.

MARC SHERMAN
- Defining menus for different genre combinations should definitely be
possible with Custom Browse. I will just have to think about it a bit
to see if there is a way to make the menus easy to configure. Today you
will have to hard code the genre names in the *.cb.xml files which makes
it a bit hard. It might be possible to have some sort of template based
solution similar to what I have in the SQLPlayList plugin.

RADISH
- Your albums menu with separated compilations and artist albums should
be quite simple, I'll try to include it in next release.

JJZOLX
- The Years menu sorted in descending order seems logical.
- Regarding the Albums within the Years menu that is sorted by artist,
its definitely possible. I'm not sure however that I want to make this
the default though, it seems logical in one way but I think I would
like it to display both the album and artist if this should be the
default. I think I have to experiment a litte with it to see how it
looks like.
- The Genres menu as I see it is just a more shallow menu since the
artist is not a menu level instead the albums are sorted by artist. I
think this could be included as a sample.
- Regarding the editing of XML files I have been thinking about a web
UI, but haven't found a good solution that makes it both easy to use
and not so hard to develop. At the moment I am thinking that it might
be a good idea to be able to generate the xml files base on a number of
selections and then edit them manually, similar to the way SQLPlayList
works.
- Adding the menus to the Home is probably possible, I will add this to
the wishlist.
- Someone else has to take the decision if this should be a core part
of slimserver or not, at the moment I think its best as a plugin since
it isn't very user friendly and the code inside is quite different from
the code in the standard slimserver.

Flac comments can do all that the problem is getting it into the

This should be possible:

The ISRC looks similar to the ISBN for books. I am not sure how
thoroughly it is implemented and used but having a unique identifier

Actually there are two parts to the problem:
1) getting the data
2) storing the data into the Mysql tables.

In addition to the command to tell the SlimServer scanner to never
delete things it doesn't know about.

The existing obvious data sources, cddb and freedb are just not well
populated with this level of detail, and they have little or nothing
about Jazz and Classical styles. The obvious solution it to have folks
who care develop it. Let me think about it, I could probably store the
data in one of my servers -- I'll need to develop some web-friendly way
to collect it.

Once it is in my database, it is not hard to setup something like an XML
transfer to your database.

There have been a number of threads on this general topic in the
ripping, audiophiles and even developer sections over the years. The
things folks want for pop/rock/etc. just don't cut it for some genres

False. The best supported format at the moment is FLAC, not mp3. FLAC

Last.fm for me, every time.

But I suspect this is more to do with my musical tastes than the

It's a much closer call if I put in some Soul or Vocal stuff.

Pat,

Nice idea. I just had a look at your home page and saw all the tools
you have developed.

For flac files you can use multiple artist comments according to the
slimwiki. I am not sure if it is still valid for 6.5. I understand that
the mySQL database is new in 6.5 but I haven't had a good look at the
slimserver internals yet.

Also had a quick look at amazon. Alas no performer info. That would
have been nice as the album art retrieval is almost manual as well.
Perhaps it is possible to retrieve it from sites like Verve, Blue Note
etc. For Jazz there are less than 10 labels that would cover 80% of
most peoples collections.

It would force me to organize the cd collection if I had to get them
all out to manually enter all the artist data.

Sure, you just have to figure out how the SQL should look like. The
RandomPlayList plugin (not same as RandomMix) does this in its
implementation of random mixes. If I remember correct it does it with a
single SQL which also means it will be possible to use a similar SQL in
the Custom Browse menu definition. But I think genre filtered menu
really have some great potential, so I think it would be worth to try
to implement a more user friendly interface for this.

so I think the definitions needs to be done separately. But I have been
thinking a litte about how they could be integrated. My current idea is
that hold+play on the remote on an item in the menu should show a list
of possible actions. The idea is that this actions could be things
like:
- Start a SQLPlayList with the selected item as parameter
- Execute a SQL statement returning tracks and load all these tracks to
the current playlist
- Browse TrackStat statistics for the selected item
- Create a Music IP mix based on the selected item

I haven't slogged thru tags in my collection lately, my software is old
and dusty these days. But when I was looking at it a lot, the ISRC was
not well supported.

And the question of exactly what a CD-release is turns out to be
non-trivial. At OneBigCd, we found things like albums with the same UPC
code (and name and artist) that had radically different CDDB hash
values, sometimes they had different numbers of tracks, lots of times
they had differing track lengths. And it is pretty hard to calculate the
CDDB hash once the files are in FLAC or MP3 or other format (I think you
can do it if they are still PCM files, but who wants to keep them).

But most of this is just a SMOP, once the motivation is there.

I haven't looked at performance optimization at all yet so its probably
possible to make them a bit faster. Also indexes in the slimserver
database are optimized for the standard browse menus. In version 1.0
there were some queries that were a more complex than needed but this
was corrected in the 1.1 release if I remember correct.

Anyway, so far my main priority has been the functionallity and this
will probably also be the case in a few releases more, but after that
its probably time to do some performance testing and optimization.

6.5.0 upgrade went smoothly on ClarkConnect. No problems that I can
detect after playing around for an hour.

I have to say that the performance is much better than 6.2.2. I assume
it's due to using MySQL instead of SQL Lite. Both the player GUI and
the web interface are a LOT more responsive.

Nice job, guys! I usually don't risk the .0 releases, but 6.5.0
seems quite stable, fun, and frisky.

If you create separate tables for the data slimserver won't delete it.
This is what I have done with TrackStat for storing information about
ratings and different types of statistics. This of course also means
that no standard functionallity in slimserver can use the data since it
doesn't know about the new tables. However, plugins such as SQLPlayList
and Custom Browse will be able to use it since you enter the actual SQL
statements yourself in these plugins.

[slim] Re: playlists missing after upgrade to v6.5

2006-09-26 Thread ipodscool

For the record, and after numerous installs / upgrades, I now expect
difficulties to some degree. To soften the potential devastation to my
precious music playlists I've compiled a reinstall pack.

This pack, although personal to me, includes all the prerequisite
settings such as:

Playlists location;
Plugins (beware of any reinstalling any redundant plugin when changing
versions);
lame encoder;
mplayer.exe (although not essential since AlienBBC now includes this
for v6.5)
backup of all playlists;
plugin logins / passwords;
player formatting

This list is by no means exhaustive but it may help others to know that
this generally serves me well. I intend to compile a definitive list of
necessary files settings soon post in the forums. Good idea?

The most common filepath which I tend to forget is that to my iTunes
music playlists. A fresh reinstall usually points to

C:\Documents and Settings\ADMINISTRATOR\My Documents\My
Music\iTunes\.

In my case, these files are in:

C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes
Music

I strongly suspect that this has caught many others out also!

Without hesitation Pandoro seems to provide a far more comprehensive
adult contemporary selection. I do appreciate that it is horses for

Indeed Pandoro has just benefited from a paid subscription from me.
(btw it is tosh that it is unavailable outside the US just takes a

LastFM everytime, I have been signed up for about 12 months now and my

isn't one of my playlists, that is until it plays some new music which
is usually good.

That is what I like about it just the right mix of music you love and
new stuff you will like. I find the playing other songs that people who
like your music much more realiable than Pandora's genome project. But
that is just my personal pref.

LastFM does take some time before it really starts to know what you

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369

Question: Do you have a 770?

- Got it
- Want it
- Need it
- Forget it

Just seems wrong for the Nokia770 thread to go dormant so long so...

I've been playing around with the package Streamtuner today on my 770,
and must say it's pretty darn sweet. Certainly the best method for
accessing direct internet streams via the 770--
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006#head-ac1509c6b336114683a3441aa37608d68d86ef49

it scrapes stream data from Shoutcase, Xiph, and Live365. The interface
to streamtuner itself needs some work, but getting a stream going is as
easy as clicking on the stream and hitting play. I've been jamming to a
random techno feed out of Glasgow this afternoon.

StreamTuner requires Mplayer to run. Mplayer has also been ported to
the 770:
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006#head-12e506b2cb298dfc71d78a0265831c7bafe95604

On the Slimserver skin front, most of my recent work has been with the
Touch skin. Touch in 6.5 is nearly identical to Nokia770, except for a
few css positioning differences. I'm adding some enhancements to Touch
for the next slimserver version, especially in the '1-by-1 artwork'
feature. I'll probably start a new thread on that skin once I have
something to announce.

cheers,
#!/ben

[slim] Streaming on 6.5 - having issues with breaking between songs

2006-09-26 Thread vacaboca

I primarily run Slimserver to stream my collection to myself at work
(though I love my Squeezebox, it sits at home and waits for me all day
long for the most part). I'm running my server on Windows XP. I
recently wiped 6.3.1 and installed 6.5 - I've been very happy with the
interface changes (I use the fishbone skin), but have found what I
think is a change of behavior that is really causing me some angst...
When listening to my stream (e.g., as
http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3), the beginning of every song (up to a
few seconds) is being cut off. I believe I've tracked it down to a
breaking of the stream between songs - since I have my media players
(tried on foobar2k and windows Media Player) set to repeat the
playlist, what's happening is that the buffer is running out, and the
track (stream) is restarting... dropping all the audio from the
beginning of the track.

Reading that back, I think I may be confused... but I know that I
didn't ever have this problem with 6.3.1, so I think something is
different. Am I nuts? Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks!

Question: Do you have a 770?

Hi Ben,
I read many pages back your comment that the volume preset-points on
your skin are scaled linearly. My question to you and others is, how
many of the preset-points on the skin do you typically use? When I'm
controlling the volume on my SB directly (without the skin), I find
myself using mute and then a range of values within my normal listening
volume, e.g. from below-normal to above-normal, but nothing between
mute and my below-normal setting. If my usage is typical, I'm
wondering if your skin could provide much finer volume adjustments at
the upper end of its scale, for example between 3 or 4 and 10. This
would enable one to set one's ampliflier to a normal volume level,
and use the skin to adjust it from there for different songs/moods/etc
(in addition to mute and maybe a couple of other settings such as very
soft, soft, and very loud). What I find now is that the volume
adjustments on the skin are too large for me to use to my liking, and I
would often prefer listening to a song a little louder or softer but
need to change the volume either directly on my SB or stereo to do so.
What do you think?

2006-09-26 Thread mickephoto

You can download a script that takes all the iTunes 7 downloaded artwork
and embeds it in the song file instead:
http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php
It's called Embed Artwork v1.1.
My script is running through iTunes now...
It will add about 50KB to each song.

I'm very willing to take another look at the volume settings in the
skin.

My proposal is two-fold:

revisit the levels of the 9 volume bars currently available and adjust
as needed. (to clarify, I think I have a pseudo-log scale in place now,
which was put in place to create a perceived linear volume scale.
underlying slimserver code may have changed since then so I need to
take another look at this)

add two new AJAXed controls, + and -, that will make micro adjustments
to the volume (i.e., up 1, down 1)

FYI--any development like this goes into the code for the next
slimserver version, not 6.5.

cheers,
#!/ben

AJAX controls for +/- 1 would be great, in which case the current volume
presets would be perfect for me as they are now. Thank you for
everything you've done.

[slim] Jumbled album tracks in 6.5

2006-09-26 Thread GrahameP

Hi,

Downloaded and installed 6.5 today as a full replacement for 6.3.1
(zipped deleted), where everything had been working well (Win2003 SP1
server). I've looked back through recent postings and can't see some of
my issues listed anywhere, so here goes: -

I've rescanned my albums and I have a number of issues with the browse
features (at least via the web interface (Fishbone), not tested fully
via SB2). I select an album by clicking on its name in the browse list
and it shows the tracks, but always not in track order. Most tracks
usually in the right order with many displaced. The Beatles - '1'
shows 27 then 1 -26 (although it sometimes shows as a smaller
collection of other albums intead). Blur - '13' shows all tracks in
the correct order, Eric Clapton - '461 Ocean Boulevard' the tracks are
all over the place. I've rescanned (clear scan) several times and
can't get this to come right.

In the albums list many albums are shown more that once - mostly
multi-disc sets, but sometimes single albums. There are tracks missing
from one version that appear in the other version, as if merging the two
would make the complete album. One 3 disc album has 6 entries in the
album list. These are set in the tags as Disc 1 of 3, etc.

My collection is mainly MP3Pro, but I've started to convert from CD to
FLAC as well. These go into H:\Music.flac\Artist\Album, whereas the
MP3s go into H:\Artist\Album. I used to be able to browse the FLAC
music, but now I can't - it tries to interpret the Music.flac folder as
a FLAC file and won't open it further. I can probably get round this by
renaming the folder, but I didn't have to before.

it appears to be a problem with playboyradio and gets stuck. The debug
that is turned on is d_plugins d_source.

 thanks for your help greg.
Thanks for your post. The images are needed and included in the 6.2
zip file. They're inside a nested directory structure within the
SiriusRadio directory. I'll probably have to add a few icons for the
new stations added today.

In looking at your error log, it did crap out when getting the info for
Playboy. It came back with a 500 Internal Server error. I haven't seen
this lately with the plugin. Do you have Playboy radio enabled on your

You might want to try the plugin again to see if the same thing

[slim] Re: How would you like to browse your music ?

2006-09-26 Thread JJZolx

You know, while we're wishlisting... How about some of the things that
I hope to see in SlimServer some day.

Optional album counts next to artist names when the next level in the
hierarchy is album

Code:

Home / Artists

  ...
  Cannonball Adderley (9 albums)
  Aerosmith (4 albums)
  The Allman Brothers (6 albums)
  ...

Less redundant text and more actual info, such as track duration, in
album track listings:

Code:

  Home / Custom Browse / Genres / Artists / Albums / Songs
  ...
  1. Autumn Leaves (11:01)
  2. Love For Sale (07:05)
  3. Somethin' Else (08:15)
  ...

Album art at the top of album track listings, with album information to
the right.

Code:

  |---|
  | | Something Else
  | | Cannonball Adderley
  | | 1958
  | | 45:24
  | |
  | |
  |---|

  1. Autumn Leaves (11:01)
  2. Love For Sale (07:05)
  3. Somethin' Else (08:15)
  ...

Better breadcrumb navigation, with the main goal of being able unwind
the navigation in the same path you took getting to the current page.

Code:

Home / Artists / E-G / Ella Fitzgerald / The Best of the Song Books

  - or -

  Home / Albums / T / Tupelo Honey

The web site says nothing about removing 6.3, which, if it does, it is
hidden pretty well from this non-techie and yet all the techies (and I

I just loaded 6.5 over the top of 6.3 because I'm a non-techie and it
seems to be working fine. So is it ready for us non-techies? I say yes

 (500 Internal Server Error)

I do not have the playboy channel enabled, but if I enter
http://www.sirius.com/sirius/mediaplayer/player/common/lineup/channel.jsp?category=catentertainmentgenre=playboyradio
into my web browser I can see the channel description without problem.
So it is not blocked in anyway and I can see it throught a web browser
request from my location. It looks like SlimServer is not making the
request in the same way that a browser is.

I see the same errors in my log whether I start the plugin from a
hardware player or from the WebUI.

I'm using the 9-26 Nightly RPM of 6.5.1 and version 0.6.3 the Sirius
Plugin. Let me know if any additional info would be of use.

So you're complaining that they've fixed bugs?

No. I'm complaining that the bugs they're fixing are critical ones,
and therefore (if they've done any sensible triage at all), the
non-critical bugs are still there.

It's the same way that if you're looking for a web browser, you look
for one where the recently fixed bugs are things like block elements
with alpha transparency clip display of absolutely positioned
bidirectional text, not invalid HTML causes browser to crash.

[slim] Re: Are you willing to pay for a Sirius Radio plug-in?

How are you connecting to the Internet? If you're at work or something,
they may have Sirius blocked :(

Try accessing this web page on whatever computer you have running
 SlimServer:
 http://www.sirius.com/sirius/mediaplayer/player/common/lineup/category.jsp?category=genre=channel=

It should come up in your web browser, regardless of if you allow
cookies or anything. If you get a forbidden, your ISP/work/something
 is blocking Sirius from you.

 Lemme know.

That link gets Access Denied also. And I'm at home, so nothing's
blocked. My guess is it's an Adelphia and/or akamai problem, but I
have no idea how to prove it.

Thanks for your help...

[slim] Re: Tag problems with 6.5.0

2006-09-26 Thread Brian Ritchie

Ben Sandee;139348 Wrote:
Maybe check to see if you have APE tags in there, I believe they may
 take
 precedence of ID3v2. [...] I'm sure there's a tag in there and it's
 just a

... and how to nuke the bastard!

dBPowerAMP does indeed report quite differently: under ID Tag it says
APEv2 IDE3v1 IDE3v2.3 (I have no idea what this means: does the
file have three different sets of tags? If so, which set is it showing
me? Why does MediaMonkey *not* show the APE tag (values)?) Against both
Artist and BAND it lists Anouar Brahem; only against
Band/Orchestra/accompaniment does it have Brahem, Anouar.

I've no idea which tool(s) introduced this folly; I can't remember how
I ripped the CD originally, and heavens knows how many times I've
fiddled with the tags since. Nor do I know (nor really care to know)
why SlimServer has decided to show this up *now*. I wonder if something
like mp3tag can be used to rationalise this sort of mayhem in batch
(i.e. without track-by-track mollycoddling)?

To cap it all, I'm also spotting a few cases where one album (by one
artist) have been split into two separate albums, which as far as I can
see (in SS) have identical artists and titles. I'm guessing that I
changed some other property of some tracks, using a tool that then
screwed up the artist/album tags somehow, but left other tracks
untouched.

This is *so* frustrating. Just when I thought I'd got it all sussed,
and had my collection tagged the way I wanted, it turns out that I
haven't!

Please note: my gripe is not with SlimServer, but with tagging tools
that don't tell the whole truth. But no doubt it'll turn out to be some
configuration option (secretly write crap tags that override user's
choices [default: on]) that I've not spotted.

[slim] Weird 6.5 Issues

2006-09-26 Thread ChrisNY

Since upgrading to 6.5, I have some odd issues with the web interface:
When I click on artists, albums, etc. it returns a blank list and it
says ARRAY(0x5e5ce0c) next to the Home link.

Also, when I try to go to server settings I get a Page Not Found
message...I am running on Windows XP Home.

Any options besides re-installing?
