If you want the amplifier/BT/SPDIF/analogue and don't need screen, buttons & others, then there is no tinkering. Just putting it in the box (I've been missing boxes for a while, but still working on it), it comes pre-loaded with software (this is a not-for-profit project) The SqueezeESP32 is the software arm of the project that can be used beyond SqueezeAMP, but you don't need to worry about that LMS 7.9 on Pi 3B+ & Odroid-C2 - *SqueezeAMP!*, 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB3. I'm not a "Spotty" person so perhaps a question on a spotty thread (or a new thread with a spotty title) might get good answers from real spotty users. I think paul's suggestion of available touch screens, is the way for mobile phone/App users. Have you looked at using the Material UI ? Re: [slim] Can I breath new life into my system, or does in need replacing?
My way to keep LMS in use by others at home was to put as many touch screen control points around the place as possible - with amplifiers/speakers always powered up. Even then it has been a limited success. The kitchen is the one place where everyone has tacitly agreed to use it exclusively. Speakers are in the ceiling and are, nowadays, driven by SqueezeAMP and there are two touch screens (Jogglers) - one near the fridge & sink and the other near a dining table. Pretty well everything that everyone else plays in there is via a Favourite. The BBC Sounds plugin is very new and so functionality so has scope for UI improvement. Post your issues/suggestions on the BBC Sounds plugin thread. BBC plugins on LMS have followed the interfaces/APIs that the BBC provides and eventually terminate at end-of-life. The "Listen Again" feed has been creaking and becoming harder to add expected functionality so if it is the end of the feed, it is the right time. BBC Sounds App uses an API which has only been fully opened to non UK users in mid Sept but it provide much more functionality than the old "listen Again" feed and provides the functionality that users expect and keep inline with BBC Sounds mobile app bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm now up and running with the BBC Sounds app. As with the iPlayer app I can time-shift my listening to suit myself using the scheduling section, so I'm happy as Larry. The only thing I have to do differently is that on my Touch I can navigate to the programmes I want using the remote, but I have to use the touchscreen to actually play them - hardly a showstopper. Re: [slim] Can I breath new life into my system, or does in need replacing?
Because of changes in SSL / https - Spotify and internet services need an up to date LMS 8.0.* AND and up to date OS with openssl at least 1.1.* LMS 8.0.0 integrates online music services and local Music library. Your system can play all current services as long as LMS and OS are up to date. You provide no details on "linux server". At the very least you should upgrade to latest OS (not the latest update for the current version of your OS). Not clear what size your music library but a simple afforable LMS server upgrade would be using a Pi4. SliMP3 may require a lot of transcoding but Pi4 should be OK as long as there isn't a big load. BBC radio - there is a BBC Sounds plugin available - so mobile use of BBC Sounds and LMS use are in-line. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113360 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Can I breath new life into my system, or does in need replacing?
Hi Everyone, I have Logitech Media Server (7.9.3) running on a Linux server in the garage. I've got a SLIMP3 (original) in the kitchen, which splits the audio to speakers in the kitchen and to an amp in the front room. I've also got a Squeezebox (not sure if it's 1 or 2) in our bedroom. The problem is that the family just don't use these devices any more! They seem old, clunky, and they'd rather play Spotify on their phones. I've tried to get Spotify working through the SLIMP3 and Squeezebox, but it's only worked intermittently at best, and that's just not good enough. For the family, I think that Spotify is here to stay. That's where they go for their music. My wife also plays BBC radio a lot. She uses a crappy radio for that because, again, my efforts to get it working on my current devices have been intermittent at best. I still tend to go to the system and find 'my music', but maybe that's just because I haven't used Spotify much. I'm tempted to give up on the Squeezeboxes, but I'm not sure what I'd replace them with. I definitely don't want and 'smart (spying) speakers' in the house. And we've got decent speakers. I just need something to pick up the Spotify music from their phones (multiple different users) and 'just work'. If I can keep the ability to play our own files, from the server, then that's a bonus. However, I'm no longer particularly attached to that. I don't play that much music myself, and when I do, I'm at my computer. I can play what I want when I want. It's the family use that I'm trying to sort. What would you guys suggest? Should I just get some Bluetooth speakers and bypass the audio system that we've got? Is the problem just down to old players? Would something like a Logitech Squeezebox Touch stream Spotify, from different users, easily and with close to 100% success? Is the problem down to me, and even these old players should work? Should I be buying some Rasberry Pi's, and cases for them, and screens(?) and dotting those around that house? And whichever solution you suggest, can you tell me how much money it's going to cost. When you make a correction you are attempting to force the sound profile to fit an ideal curve, maybe flat, maybe harmon curve or some other "ideal". To do this the correction will reduce the voume of peaks and increase the volume of troughs throughout the audio spectrum. Sometimes the increase in a trough maybe too much for the amplifier (or speakers) to handle and can cause clipping. By reducing the overall gain you give the system leeway to increase the volume of the troughs but still to stay under 0db. When you are getting a peak of +2.66db I think that is referring to the amount of boost to a particular frequency that is needed to cancel out a trough, and is a guldeline to the overall gain that you should be applying to avoid peaking over 0db. i.e. -2.68db. foxesden's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99132 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
