you've got passive speakers, maybe the Hifiberry Amp is your choice, but

pay for. If I use Deezer, then I pay for Deezer. If somebody creates a

Wimp HiFi/Tifal should have at least the same number of tracks in that
section. I listen exclusively to classical/film music and have found the
section to be pretty much equal on all platforms. Qobuz used to be
pretty bad when it came to searching though, can't say whether that has
changed for
Wimp AAC should be pretty good quality already. Sadly it's not on
Squeezebox, here you get 256kbit mp3 which really is an audible
difference.
My main issue with Wimp Hifi is that I pay double, but many tracks get
streamed as 256kbit mp3. That's not acceptable. They claim to have a
full FLAC
They advertise that their entire catalogue is FLAC, but their CS is
aware of the large gaps. The stupid thing is, they are not fixing it. I
reported a couple of Albums that are only mp3 at the beginning of this
year, and they're still mp3...

Actually, what I really wanted was for somebody to verify the audible
difference with this particular track. This is not about the service as
a whole. Professional magazines already did that and found that both
have their better and worse sounding tracks with Qobuz having a slight
advantage.

If I take two CDs with the same name, cover, production year, tracks
and everything and put them in the same player, then I expect them to

Since I currently can't test Wimp myself (just expired): what are the
changes over the MySqueezebox Plugin? Is the skipping within Flac files
working? Does Wimp finally have some kind of radio mode? Are the longish
delays for starting tracks gone? Any other changes?

Thanks Pippin. The delays are in Wimp on SB, when starting tracks. It
never happens in Qobuz, so not related to FLAC, same as the skipping
problem.
This means I'll stqy on GPM for now or maybe give Deezer another try.
Eventually they might offer their Elite service in Europe...

Apparently just a display error currently. It was mentioned earlier in

However, some Wimp/Tidal titles are not available as FLAC and they play
as mp3, so that might also be part of the problem.
I just attempted to use Deezer on ickstream and it failed to play.

That is actually very true. The first recording in the Wimp HiFi test
sounded better to my ears in the lossy version, because it was less
noisy. I would have taken that noise as compression artefacts, but it
was most likely part of the original recording.
Just a brief question about Wimp HiFi Plugin...
Wimp Support told me that they have added a Radio mode for Wimp. I did
not see that in the Plugin. Can it be added or isn't it part of the API?

from the incomplete FLAC selection and the can't skip inside tracks

According to Deezers Google+ account, Deezer Elite (lossless streaming)
is coming to Europe in the next couple of weeks. That would be great,
especially if this could be supported through ickstream ASAP... ;)
Tidal should be exactly the same as Wimp, so also plenty pf mp3 content
left. If you want all-FLAC then go with Qobuz or maybe wait for Deezer
Elite. Qobuz is great, but they have some gaps in their catalogue that
others don't...

I actually think we already have all the options we need. Raspberry Pi
with Hifiberry DAC/Digi/Amp, running Picoreplayer and you're covered.
The only problem I see right now is WiFi setup and maybe hardware
volume control for the Amp version.

Luckily we have the Odroid U3 as a Server device (Max2Play Image) and
the PiCorePlayer for Raspberry Pi with the Hifiberry DAC, Digi and Amp,
so we have everything Sonos offers and more. Of course it's not quite as

Qobuz, the french streaming service, certainly have great audio quality,
and since they finally fixed (mostly) their search engine, they are now
a vialbe alternative to Tidal/Wimp Hifi/Deezer Elite.
However, what they lack is some form of dynamic playlisting, mostly
known as Radio Mode.
I know SmartMix and have used it, but for classical music it does not
work with Qobuz. I've tried it and discussed it with Michael, and
apparently it's not easy to fix.

That's interesting since Yamaha claims that the compatible firmware is
available since the 20th of August... somewhere on their website or in

I actually own a Yamaha RX-V679, but can't find out how to use
MusicCast. I installed the app, but can't get past the press connect
stage. I can hold the connect button on my Yamaha as long as I like, it
doesn't do anything.

I think CCA can augment LMS in two different ways:

Thanks for your analysis. I think "Casting" from LMS to Chromecast Audio
is the only thing that makes sense. The "point" of it would be
a) Having cheap, compact and high-quality SB Hardware
b) Having a solution for streaming services that LMS does not fully

I can't answer this fully, since I have only one "real" SB devices, and
that's a SB Radio (no great sound there...) but the HifiBerry devices
are pretty good, I have them all (DAC/Digi/Amp) and you can always look
at one of the alternatives, like the IQAudio addon boards.

The Digi is completely unproblematic since it merely passes the digital
data through to an external DAC. My only problem with RPi and Dac/Digi
is the fact that it's one more device with it's own cables and
