Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet
I suspect that it was an issue of not having the keys. Without a keyboard the only way to pick a letter is to scroll through them. With the acceleration it's faster to just scroll through the list than to select letter mode (however that could be done), then scroll through the letters, select the one you want, then scroll through the library starting at that letter to get what you wanted. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41813 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Once the acceleration takes effect and you see the large letters on screen, you can get through a list pretty quickly. Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet
The good news is that I received my duet last week and installed it over the weekend. This is in now working fine. The bad news is that only one set of UK adapters were shipped with the package, so I could recharge the controller or power the receiver. After a bit of hunting I found another adapter from my blackberry charger, so all was well. Calling the Logitech help line was unconvincing that this will be resolved so I liberated another addapter from work. They wanted me to send the package back so I could have a new one. Looks like we are shipping out to our distributors this week. JR and Amazon will get their units by next week. The rework of the misplaced battery stickers (some were on the wrong side), and inserting the updated Quick Start Guide took the USDC longer than expected. The USDC handles all of Logitech's hundreds of products, while the guys in the back here that do our e-com business just handle our Squeezebox and Transporter work. Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet
I am thinking about getting a Duet. I am a little concerned about a comment on the Amazon UK website though, quote: -'I bought a Duet to supplement my Squeezebox 3. To my chagrin the range of the wifi for the receiver with the Duet is considerably less than for the older Squeezebox. The result is that I cannot stream music except within the room where the router is located. At anything over 40 feet away there is no reception, where the previous model plays clearly sixty feet away. Normally you expect newer models to be better, not in this case. It is a shame because otherwise the Duet is awesome. I have about 600 CDs ripped losslessly to my hard drives and the sound through the Squeezeboxes to my hifis is indistinguishable from the CDs themselves. If you have a small house or apartment go ahead just don't expect to stream through any distance.'- My intention is to have my Duet two floors down from my wireless router to replace my SB3 which I will move to a different part of the house, so I am a bit concerned about this comment - should I be? -- Butane Bob Butane Bob's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41813 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The SBC interface is in many ways far superior to the web ui, but if you want to use other wifi devices, the same options are still there. Also note that at the present time you need the new SBC to setup the new Squeezebox Receiver (SBR) (SBC+SBR=Duet), but there is already a plugin in the works to make it possible to setup the SBR over regular wired ethernet. Edit: I forgot to respond to your real question: Yes, you can control the SBR with wifi-enabled devices the same way you can control the earlier SBs. Ok let me elaborate. I use SB 1/2/3 and control them via various touch screen WiFi units. I am 100% happy using my own WiFi units as they replicate the whole of the slimdevices server screen and give me everything I need on one screen. Just me, but I prefer this to the new SBC, which if I purchased would only be used to sign on new SBRs. Ergo if Robin Bowes can work on a way to authenticate new SBRs via a PC I would be 100% happy and buy new SBRs to add to my collection (and likely upgrade older SBs). The Squeezebox Receiver cannot be set up without a Squeezebox Controller, however Robin Bowes is working on a plug-in that would allow an SBR to be configured from a PC. Once an SBR is configured, it is controlled by SqueezeCenter (or SqueezeNetwork), so any product that can control SC or SN can control the SBR. Asuuming Robin's plug-in can change the music source for the SBR to SN, you would have to be sure to switch the music source BEFORE shutting down SC. The downside is that SN's interface is not skinnable like SC, so you'll need a device with a decent sized screen and good browser implementation. -= Jim -- JimC well, she wasn't all of that, but she sure was some of that. -- BKlaas' college buddy JimC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9428 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41813 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Can you explain in more detail? How would these need to be different from the sleep button on the remote for SB3 or the Sleep options under settings on the Duet Controller? -kdf On 20-Feb-08, at 8:11 PM, breakfastchef wrote: Any possibility of a sleep timer in the Duet, or the Sqeezebox 3 for that matter? There's already a Sleep button on the SB3 remote (it looks like the edge of an eyelid with eyelashes, or like the bottom half of the Sun as my 5 year old draws it). It cycles through the possible times. And there's already a Sleep function in the Squeezebox Controller UI, under the Setting menu. JimC wrote: Robin's plug-in, which requires SqueezeCenter and a wired connection to the Squeezebox Receiver, would allow a user to configure a Squeezebox Receiver without the controller. Perhaps now is as good a time as any to release a little more information about what I'm working on... I am writing a perl module that can be used to configure one or more SBRs. This requires a wired connection to the SBR and (obviously!) perl. There will be a CLI which can be used to do the configuration outside of SC. Separate to this, there will be a SC plugin that uses the module to do SBR configuration from the web interface. I hope to have a beta-release available within the next week or two.
