I used to connect my xbox360 via squeezebox 3 to my wireless, now I just
couldn't find this feature in my duet. Where
should it be enabled, or should I just hack it with 'brctl' from the
shell? It at least didn't work out-of-the-box.

TIA.

My memory is that bridging isn't yet accessible through the stock

Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet

2008-04-08 Thread Bizarroterl

I suspect that it was an issue of not having the keys. Without a
keyboard the only way to pick a letter is to scroll through them. With
the acceleration it's faster to just scroll through the list than to
select letter mode (however that could be done), then scroll through
the letters, select the one you want, then scroll through the library
starting at that letter to get what you wanted.

There is no way to jump, other than jumping back to Z by scrolling
backwards. But have you scrolled it fast enough to get the acceleration
to kick in? Once the acceleration takes effect and you see the large
letters on screen, you can get through a list pretty quickly. I still
usually overshoot and have to scroll back.

Yes, I've used the acceleration, but still not nearly as efficient as
jumping to a letter. I think it's odd that this was not made a part of
the browse. I guess the beta testers didn't mind spinning their wheels
a lot ;-)

It was definitely debated -- check out the threads from Oct-Dec 2007
(and possibly earlier) in the Beta and/or SqueezeOS Software Platform
forums. It's not as obvious to others as it may be to you, especially
if you take the current SBC buttons as the starting point.

In that case I'm very surprised that the more thoughtful ones lost that

always jump to a place in the alphabet first since it just makes sense.

2008-03-26 Thread DaveBrennan

The good news is that I received my duet last week and installed it over
the weekend. This is in now working fine.

The bad news is that only one set of UK adapters were shipped with the
package, so I could recharge the controller or power the receiver.

After a bit of hunting I found another adapter from my blackberry
charger, so all was well.

Calling the Logitech help line was unconvincing that this will be
resolved so I liberated another addapter from work. They wanted me to
send the package back so I could have a new one.

But I think anybody receiving these units should check that there are
two sets of adapters for the two power supplies in the package.

Looks like we are shipping out to our distributors this week. JR and
Amazon will get their units by next week.

The rework of the misplaced battery stickers (some were on the wrong
side), and inserting the updated Quick Start Guide took the USDC longer
than expected. The USDC handles all of Logitech's hundreds of products,
while the guys in the back here that do our e-com business just handle
our Squeezebox and Transporter work.

Not to take anything away from our guys tho... they kicked some major
but and banged out almost 800 pre-oders and the required rework in like
two days.

Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet

2008-03-19 Thread Butane Bob

I am thinking about getting a Duet. I am a little concerned about a
comment on the Amazon UK website though, quote:

-'I bought a Duet to supplement my Squeezebox 3. To my chagrin the
range of the wifi for the receiver with the Duet is considerably less
than for the older Squeezebox. The result is that I cannot stream music
except within the room where the router is located. At anything over 40
feet away there is no reception, where the previous model plays clearly
sixty feet away. Normally you expect newer models to be better, not in
this case. It is a shame because otherwise the Duet is awesome. I have
about 600 CDs ripped losslessly to my hard drives and the sound through
the Squeezeboxes to my hifis is indistinguishable from the CDs
themselves. If you have a small house or apartment go ahead just don't
expect to stream through any distance.'-

My intention is to have my Duet two floors down from my wireless router
to replace my SB3 which I will move to a different part of the house, so
I am a bit concerned about this comment - should I be?

I wouldn't be. I haven't noticed any difference between the wireless
performance of the SB3 and Receiver, certainly they (and the

Excellent. I look forward to joining the DUET owners community shortly.
I am constantly befuddled as to why more music sharing software/devices

Same here - no problems (and I have pretty thick walls).

That said, the orientation of the Duet vs the SB is different (so
presumably the wireless aerials are too?) which may account for what
that the reviewer experienced. I would have suggested standing it on
its end to see if reception improved and/or trying a different
location.

You have a couple of options:

theater setup. Everything AV related seems to come with a Ethernet port
 these days.

Do you have detailed instructions on configuring a second SB with the
controller? Not showing up on my controller and there are NO
instructions in the box or online describing how to do this.

thanks

If you go to the bottom of the SBC main menu there's an option to
select the player to control. That list will contain any SB devices
connected to your SC server. If you have players which aren't showing
up, it might be that they're connected to SN rather than your local SC.

If you're using SqueezeCenter, and gave SC your SN login information,
you don't need to do anything -- SC will automatically register the
hardware to SN. If you're not using SC, then you should have seen the
PIN on the Controller's screen as soon as you selected SqueezeNetwork

Edit: I forgot to respond to your real question: Yes, you can control
the SBR with wifi-enabled devices the same way you can control the
 earlier SBs.

Ok let me elaborate.
I use SB 1/2/3 and control them via various touch screen WiFi units. I
am 100% happy using my own WiFi units as they replicate the whole of
the slimdevices server screen and give me everything I need on one
screen. Just me, but I prefer this to the new SBC, which if I purchased
would only be used to sign on new SBRs. Ergo if Robin Bowes can work on
a way to authenticate new SBRs via a PC I would be 100% happy and buy
new SBRs to add to my collection (and likely upgrade older SBs).

Thanks for the response:)

IR no, as it has no IR port. Wifi yes, you would need a device with a

It would be downright nice of them to do that, but the words are in the past

The Squeezebox Receiver cannot be set up without a Squeezebox
Controller, however Robin Bowes is working on a plug-in that would
allow an SBR to be configured from a PC.

Once an SBR is configured, it is controlled by SqueezeCenter (or
SqueezeNetwork), so any product that can control SC or SN can control
the SBR. Asuuming Robin's plug-in can change the music source for the
SBR to SN, you would have to be sure to switch the music source BEFORE
shutting down SC. The downside is that SN's interface is not skinnable
like SC, so you'll need a device with a decent sized screen and good
browser implementation.

Hey, Mike, please remember that some of us read this as a mailing list.
Forum announcements don't get gated to the mailing list. Posting a
standard thread message and marking it sticky and locked would work much
 better.

+1

There's an Announce list - why not use it?

Hi guys,
The new products look great. I'm not a bleeding-edge guy so I'll wait
a bit to order my Duet.

Reading through this REALLY LONG THREAD, however, something came to
mind. Are you guys signed up as Apple developers and are you looking
at the iPhone SDK? Seems to me that you should see what kind of
controller interface you could write for the iPhone.
A) there are already millions of iPhones out there.
B) the iPhone already has wireless built in, is portable, and has a
GREAT screen (better than the SBC, certainly).
C) if I'm going to spend $299 on something, I'd much rather buy an
iPhone.

I'm just not sure the SBC idea, while a good one, will be appealing to
a whole lot of folks at that price point. If you could ALSO make an
iPhone/iPod Touch interface for controlling SqueezeCenter, that would
open up a lot more potential sales of SqueezeBox3 and
SqueezeBoxReceivers. Let's face it, Apple's AppleTV is ok for video,
but there are many of us who don't want to turn on the TV just to
listen to music (and see album covers, etc).

statement is We expect to begin shipping our pre-orders as early as
Monday, March 3rd, but no later than Friday March 7th.

They go on to say that they wil upgrade shipping to UPS Next Day Air

There's already a Sleep button on the SB3 remote (it looks like the
edge of an eyelid with eyelashes, or like the bottom half of the Sun as
my 5 year old draws it). It cycles through the possible times.

And there's already a Sleep function in the Squeezebox Controller UI,
under the Setting menu.

Were you looking for something else?

Trouwens een vraag::

Mvg,
Peter

Perhaps now is as good a time as any to release a little more
information about what I'm working on...

I am writing a perl module that can be used to configure one or more
SBRs. This requires a wired connection to the SBR and (obviously!) perl.
There will be a CLI which can be used to do the configuration outside of SC.

Separate to this, there will be a SC plugin that uses the module to do
SBR configuration from the web interface.

I hope to have a beta-release available within the next week or two.

R.

Why do I get the feeling this list is apologetic to Logitech? Because I
am surprised that more people on the list are not critical of Logitech
for not making the SBR a stand alone product, and indeed defensive
that it is in fact not a stand alone product.

Simple enough?

Treat them badly.. I don't think so. But moreover, I fail to see why
you are excluding me as part of this community. Although I am not a
developer, I have been using the Squeezebox and Slimserver for almost
five years. I have purchased two units, including one since Logitech
purchased Slimdevices. I even got into Linux because of Slimserver. I
have demonstrated to friends who in turn have purchased this product.
Guaranteed I love my Squeezebox as much as anyone else on this forum.
Why you even have a quote from me on the testimonials page.

:)

Now please make plans on creating a stand-alone SBR. And I really will
pipe down now (and apologies to all the others here for my rants). And
if you send me (or allow me to purchase) a SBR, I'll be the first one
to beta test Robin's plugin. And and advocate, too!

djfake, enough is enough. If you feel the need to continually whine,
kindly do it somewhere else.

Logitech are entitled to market a product/suite of products in the
manner they feel in their professional wisdom is best suited to the
prospective buyers of the items concerned. You are entitled to request
that they do otherwise. Slimdevices and Logitech have provided a forum
in which people interested in the Slimdevices products can access each
other, and Slimdevices staff to share information and even better to
aid in developing products we as owners feel are worthwhile, even
brilliant.

It is in the nature of online Forums that from time to time, users will
abuse the privileges accorded them. The moderators then have a choice:
ban the abuser, close the thread, delect the thread etc.

The Slimdevices forum is one of the best I have seen online.
Slimdevices are eminently accepting of constructive criticism, and of
the praise which they are rightfully due. Please respect this Forum and
behave accordingly.

I have been lurking through this thread and am still unsure about how
the remote controls the receiver. Is it through wifi where I just need

answered and I just missed it.

Its WiFi. Anything in range. If your WiFi is strong enough, you could
be sitting in your back yard while you control it with the Controller.

So, yes, be in range of your WiFi and control away

Yes, it's all wifi. And if you have multiple players on the network you
can control all of them from one controller.
