Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
I've been using 7.6 for day to day squeezeslave listening/testing since July and have never seen that problem. Just tried playing David's Picks - Radio Paradise and it's streaming fine current running 7.6 r31504. No errors in the server log. A couple things. Squeezeslave is not supported on mysqueezebox.com so Logitech may have finally done something to blocked it in 7.6. truehl, If you're planning to release squeezeslave with your squeezeplug images I'd suggest including a newer version than 0.9-173. I'm currently testing version 1.0 and plan to release it soon, a week or two from now. The current google code source tree revision 209 will most likely be the branch point for 1.0 as testing over the last two weeks is going well. You should be able to build it using contrib/makefile.linux26-armel-alsa-display and get rid of the need to use aoss. You should update this line to use 1541 instead of 1534. LIBPORTAUDIO=portaudio-r1541 and you can comment out these two lines if you don't want the display baggage. #CFLAGS+=-DINTERACTIVE #LIBS+=-lncurses -llirc_client -- ralphy Ralphy *4*-Classics, *2*-Booms, *11*-Squeezeslaves 'Squeezeslave' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/) 'donations' (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donationsbusiness=LL5P6365KQEXNlc=CAitem_name=Squeezeslavecurrency_code=USDbn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_SM%2egif%3aNonHosted) always appreciated. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I have no idea why the newer kernel is scratchy, I've never had a report of that before. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with squeezeslave. I'd look at what's different between the two kernel configurations, and search for reports of problems with audio and the new kernel version. Unfortuately, I don't have an armel build environment, it was contributed by JonasK, Perhaps, we'll be able to get him to build a new version when it's ready. -- ralphy Ralphy *4*-Classics, *2*-Booms, *11*-Squeezeslaves 'Squeezeslave' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/) 'donations' (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donationsbusiness=LL5P6365KQEXNlc=CAitem_name=Squeezeslavecurrency_code=USDbn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_SM%2egif%3aNonHosted) always appreciated. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

*portaudio:1810* indicates that OSS sound devices are supported no ALSA. These two modules provide OSS support with ALSA so that looks right. snd_pcm_oss 41728 0 snd_mixer_oss 15392 1 snd_pcm_oss If the /dev/dsp? device is already open by another program, squeezeslave will not be able to use it. Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
I've uploaded a test MIPSel binary to google code which uses the Tremor Ogg/Vorbis fixed point decoder. The mp3 (libmad) and flac decoder libraries have never required an FPU. I've tested this with my Popcorn hour A-110 using the em8xxxoss kernel module. Information on the OSS and ALSA sigma smp8635 DSP modules are available from 'here' (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=42584). I've also built a modified version of the module with reduced informational messages. This module reduces the CPU load by ~23% over the one above. However, it sometimes seg faults when loading so I haven't made it available until I've tracked down the problem. You'll need to install telnetd on the popcorn hour using the 'Community Software Installer' (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=33465) and enable the built in ftpd server from the PCH setup menu to be able to copy and start the binaries. Included in the tarball is a binary of aumix which can be used to adjust the master and pcm volumes. By default squeezeslave sets both levels to 70. aumix -v 100 aumix -w 100 To reduce CPU load you can use the command line option -voff to avoid the floating point volume adjustment code. This will disable changing the volume from the server web gui and replay gain will also not be applied. You'll need to use your amplifier volume control. I am able to run squeezeslave without this option but YMMV. To run squeezeslave in the background and discard any error messages start squeezeslave like this; squeezeslave-lnx26-mipsel-0.9-208 -voff -R -M/dev/null sbshostname -- ralphy Ralphy *4*-Classics, *2*-Booms, *11*-Squeezeslaves 'Squeezeslave' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/) 'donations' (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donationsbusiness=LL5P6365KQEXNlc=CAitem_name=Squeezeslavecurrency_code=USDbn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_SM%2egif%3aNonHosted) always appreciated. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've no experiences with oss and can't get it working an a SheevaPlug with debian. I know how to work with alsa but not with oss. Is there someone please to get me on the right way? This is what I'm doing: Start SQS, load a playlist, play, close SQS and wait for a few minutes or until SQS's entry disappears from the WebUI, start it again. SQS restarts from the last song being played, seemingly regardless of power on settings. (it does this if I set to reset/restart playlist) Start SQS, load a playlist and play, close SQS and wait for 30 minutes give or take, restart again. SQS displays Now Playing and is silent. Looking at the WebUI, it shows the playlist loaded and resting on the last song played. Pressing play starts the playlist from this song onward. Tested on XP and Linux, both behave the same way. Quick question, Does Squeezeslave support the stop/play/restart/etc on power off/on as per the WebUI settings? If I close SQS within a relatively short time-frame(enough that SBS shows it's been disconnected) and then restart it, it will obey whatever is set in the WebUI. But if I wait any good amount of time, say 30 minutes to an hour, it just stays stopped upon restarting. The playlist shows up, but it stays stopped at the last song unless manually initiated. Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
I've got a problem! I'm using squeezeslave on OS X with squeezeserver 7.5.1. When playing Napster or Last.fm, the playlist will not advance, it just sticks at the end of the track. I can get to the next track by pressing advance in the web controller. It will stick on every track in the playlist. Music from my library is fine, although playlists which move from a Napster track to a track from my library also stick. I've tried this both with the latest binary from googlecode, as well as compiling my own from source from svn (not sure if they're different), with the same result. This issue does *not* happen when I use Softsqueeze or Squeezeplay under the same conditions, so unless there's something different that Squeezeslave does with Squeezeserver when playing these sources, I can only assume that the problem lies with Squeezeslave. Any ideas?! Thanks Ralph. I made more progress last night and was able to get pandora to work with SS when I changed the MAC. I think I need to make a batch file with the new MAC address, is that correct? Looks like the makefile doesn't delete these files using realclean After running make -f makefilename realcean run this find command. If you get a listing similiar to mine. I happen to stumble upon the same error you've been seeing during some testing on the weekend and disabling the second hostapi I could open the device. I'm trying to gather more information before I report it to the portaudio dev team. makefile.linux26-alsa-display uses the portaudio development library which includes support for alsa, oss and pulseaudio. Squeezeslave has additional command line options with this makefile. It also uses the newer v19 api. makefile.linux26-display uses the stable portaudio library v0.18.1 and only supports OSS. Try increasing the 0 on line 312 of src/slimaudio/slimaudio_output.c to see if that helps. Start with 1024, if you still get drop outs try increasing it to 1536 and finally 2048. I wouldn't recommend setting it higher than that. Here's an example increasing the value to 1536, note the L at the end. Code: - 0, // framesPerBuffer + 1536L, // framesPerBuffer Make sure you change the one on line 312 as there are two calls to Pa_OpenStream, you want the second one. -- ralphy ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I don't think so. Device 0 should be almost direct access to the pcm device whereas the others have additional processing overhead. That's probably why you're seeing the higher cpu usage. Change line 312 of src/slimaudio/slimaudio_output.c back to it's original value of zero. Try changing line 291 as follows. Code: - outputParameters.suggestedLatency = paDeviceInfo-defaultHighOutputLatency; + outputParameters.suggestedLatency = 0.08; If you still have drop outs increase this value from 0.08 to 0.085, 0.09, 0.095 and 1.0 -- ralphy ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
Hi, Sound stutters with squeezeslave. I downloaded the last version on the svn and compiled it without problem. I have a eeepc 702 with hda-intel sound chip. The stuttering is not very important, but enough to be quite anoying. I'm using mandriva linux with xfce. It uses pulseaudio. Without any option, squeeslave uses a lot of cpu (around 60%), wich is a lot even on my very slow cpu. So I tried the different devices. squeezeslave -L Output devices: 0: HDA Intel: ALC662 rev1 Analog (hw:0,0) 1: front 2: surround40 3: surround51 4: surround71 5: pulse 6: dmix * 7: default 8: /dev/dsp and the best so far is 0. With that device set, it uses only 4% to 9% of cpu. Using dmix causes a crash at startup and pulse makes no difference with default. Squeezeslave is not the only one player to stutter on my pc. VLC has the same problem, but totem gives a perfect sound. Anyway, I have all my stats on squeezeboxserver and I like this program, so i'd rather use squeezeslave. I've googled a lot and didn't found a solution. Some help would be gratefully appreciated ! -- Antoniop Antoniop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39292 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, the makefile extracts the tar file in the build directory and that makefile uses pa_snapshot-20091022.tar.gz Change line 18 from LIBPORTAUDIO=pa_snapshot-20091022 to LIBPORTAUDIO=portaudio-r1508 and the build will then use your modified portaudio-r1508.tar.gz You really should be using makefile.linux26-alsa-display as I've stopped maintaining the makefiles in the deprecated directory. -- ralphy ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Ordered a logitech USB sound card, maybe that will work. For $10 i'll test it :) Richard -- rperre rperre's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

ralphy;549519 Wrote: I don't know. You'll have to try it and see. Whatever audio device you choose, make sure it supports 16-bit 44.1KHz stereo audio and squeezeslave should work with it. I appears that many newer devices seem to be supporting only close to 44.1KHz sampling rates. If that rate is more than plus/minus 0.1% portaudio will fail with a message like the one in post '251' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=543114postcount=251). In which case you'll need to try another sound card. ralphy, i know you don't do much during summer, but just a question. Is it at all possible to get pulse audio to except a greater rate error? I mean these cheap USB audio cards are the solution for me... but this error keeps bugging me. I wish there was an option in pulse audio to set this. I'm not looking for perfection, just want to be able to play multiple streams from one computer. The balky shutdown issues I'd been having were indeed from ASIO4All. It's only fragile compared to commercial roadie sound gear. I have yet to hear the DSP stumble. I've tested with the 32 bit WinXP ASIO driver (downloaded from behringer.com). Did a few standby/restart cycles. Works like a champ. Sound (using ABA testing) seems a bit better than the SPDIF out from my sound card. No real way for me to tell if the DSP in the 202's better than the one in my receiver as the receiver doesn't have audio direct pass through. Sounds good on headphones, though. I've ordered a second unit to throw into my laptop bag - just for headphone audio. Caveat: this was on WinXP only. There's a 64 bit windows driver, which I haven't tried. Behringer lists Mac support but I didn't see Mac-specific downloads (maybe Macs already have USB-ASIO?) No Linux support (but, again, if there's USB-ASIO drivers already...?). And finally, the Behringer ASIO driver owns audio on whatever USB port you have the 202 connected to when you install the driver. No matter for me, but if you have another USB audio device, you'll have to decide that it's OK to not use one specific USB port for it. -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
