Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-11-10 Thread ralphy

I've been using 7.6 for day to day squeezeslave listening/testing since
July and have never seen that problem.

Just tried playing David's Picks - Radio Paradise and it's streaming
fine current running 7.6 r31504. No errors in the server log.

A couple things. Squeezeslave is not supported on mysqueezebox.com so
Logitech may have finally done something to blocked it in 7.6.

Try using a MAC address you've never used before when starting SS via
the -m option.

Try deleting the Cache directory and doing a server restart.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-11-10 Thread ralphy

truehl,

If you're planning to release squeezeslave with your squeezeplug images
I'd suggest including a newer version than 0.9-173. I'm currently
testing version 1.0 and plan to release it soon, a week or two from
now. The current google code source tree revision 209 will most likely
be the branch point for 1.0 as testing over the last two weeks is going
well.

You should be able to build it using
contrib/makefile.linux26-armel-alsa-display and get rid of the need to
use aoss. You should update this line to use 1541 instead of 1534.

LIBPORTAUDIO=portaudio-r1541

and you can comment out these two lines if you don't want the display
baggage.

#CFLAGS+=-DINTERACTIVE
#LIBS+=-lncurses -llirc_client

O.K. Thx Ralphy, the thing is, that SBS automatically switch to
mysqueezebox.com if i try to play radio with squeezeslave! If I use the
receiver it stays on my local server.

I have no idea why the newer kernel is scratchy, I've never had a report
of that before. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with
squeezeslave. I'd look at what's different between the two kernel
configurations, and search for reports of problems with audio and the
new kernel version.

Unfortuately, I don't have an armel build environment, it was
contributed by JonasK, Perhaps, we'll be able to get him to build a
new version when it's ready.

ALSA.

These two modules provide OSS support with ALSA so that looks right.
snd_pcm_oss 41728 0
snd_mixer_oss 15392 1 snd_pcm_oss

If the /dev/dsp? device is already open by another program,
squeezeslave will not be able to use it.

I don't know anything about the Synology. Are you using a USB sound
card? If not, could you try plugging one in and see if -L lists a
device then?

0.9-129 has hanging issues with internet streams unless you're running
the latest 7.6 builds. If you can't recompile the latest version of
squeezeslave and are running an older server version, you can work
around it by applying this 'patch'
to the server side, provided it's not running on windows. Search this
thread for details.

2010-10-28 Thread ene

Hello friends,

I am relativly new to the field of squeezeboxes and the player tool
squeezeslave.

Yesterday I bought a NAS (Synology DS 207+) and now I am trying to get
Squeezeslave running on it.

I found a precompiled version of Squeezeslave on the internet that fits
my processor requirements (Marvell 5281 CPU).
Starting Squeezeslave results in an error message:

PortAudio error4: Host error. Could not open any audio devices.

Even the -L switch produces the same error message.

Do I have to load a special module before starting the squeezeslave?
Here are my settings:

(1) soundcard: Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX (USB)
(2) NAS: Synology DS 207+ with Marvell 5281 CPU
(3) running modules: I can only get sound to work when enabling the
built in audio station (then I can playback sounds over the audio
station via the usb soundcard or a running instance of music player
daeomn (MPD)). I also tried to kill the audio station and/or the mpd so
that they don't conflict with the squeezeslave (i only need the audio
station so that all sound modules get loaded)

It would be fantastic if anyone has an idea how to solve this issue.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-10-26 Thread ralphy

I've uploaded a test MIPSel binary to google code which uses the Tremor
Ogg/Vorbis fixed point decoder. The mp3 (libmad) and flac decoder
libraries have never required an FPU.

I've tested this with my Popcorn hour A-110 using the em8xxxoss kernel
module. Information on the OSS and ALSA sigma smp8635 DSP modules are
available from 'here'

I've also built a modified version of the module with reduced
informational messages. This module reduces the CPU load by ~23% over
the one above. However, it sometimes seg faults when loading so I
haven't made it available until I've tracked down the problem.

You'll need to install telnetd on the popcorn hour using the 'Community
Software Installer'
(http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=33465) and enable
the built in ftpd server from the PCH setup menu to be able to copy and
start the binaries.

Included in the tarball is a binary of aumix which can be used to
adjust the master and pcm volumes. By default squeezeslave sets both
levels to 70.

aumix -v 100
aumix -w 100

To reduce CPU load you can use the command line option -voff to avoid
the floating point volume adjustment code. This will disable changing
the volume from the server web gui and replay gain will also not be
applied. You'll need to use your amplifier volume control. I am able
to run squeezeslave without this option but YMMV.

To run squeezeslave in the background and discard any error messages
start squeezeslave like this;

squeezeslave-lnx26-mipsel-0.9-208 -voff -R -M/dev/null sbshostname

Thank you for the donation.

It is possible that the portaudio library is changing the buffer size.
I'll take a look at the portaudio code and ask on the portaudio

See my previous posting, there is the alsa makefile for arm attached.
But you can also use the oss version if you install the alsa-oss

squeezeslave with aoss ./squeezeslave

Downloaded the newest, same issue with no sound returning from sleep.

Also, is it possible that Squeezeslave is actually changing the buffer
size within the Lynx output mixer? I can set the Lynx to 512 (1024
causes the noise returning from sleep), but after opening Squeezeslave,
the setting in the Lynx software has reverted to 1024.

Thanks, as always, for the effort!

Here is my makefile. It's based on the makefile.linux26-armel-oss file.
I just added the lirc, ncurses and alsa support. Used the same tool
chain as noted in the oss make file. I only had to add the lirc-client,
ncurses and alsa libs and headers (copied from my dockstar).

I think it does not hurt to enable lirc without display. Sure, you
can't choose new files, but volume, next/prev and play/pause works
fine.

Cheers,

lame can reencode it. I'd also suggest using flac instead of mp3 as
your loosing additional stream quality reencoding using lossy
compression.

Code:

  aac mp3 * *
  # IF
  [faad] -q -w -f 2 $FILE$ | [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v

Perhaps another forum member can step up to help you with this as I
haven't spent much time with the transcoding features of the server.

What version(s) of squeezeslave on what OS have you tried?

Upon closer inspection it looks like the WebUI settings have pretty
much no effect at all.

This is what I'm doing:

Start SQS, load a playlist, play, close SQS and wait for a few minutes
or until SQS's entry disappears from the WebUI, start it again. SQS
restarts from the last song being played, seemingly regardless of
power on settings. (it does this if I set to reset/restart
playlist)

Start SQS, load a playlist and play, close SQS and wait for 30 minutes
give or take, restart again. SQS displays Now Playing and is silent.
Looking at the WebUI, it shows the playlist loaded and resting on the
last song played. Pressing play starts the playlist from this song
onward.

Tested on XP and Linux, both behave the same way. Squeezeslave for
windows up to the latest you have posted - 0.9-204. An older version on
linux.

SBS 7.5.1 to what was the latest beta build a few days ago.

Wired and Wireless interfaces.

Does seem to be timeout related in one sense, but at the same time its
still not responding to the settings when it hasn't timed out as per
the first scenario.

Separate issue I just noticed, the windows version chokes on flac
files. Linux is fine. I tested the win version on two separate machines
that otherwise play flac flawlessly via WMP/WAMP and Squeezeplay.

Perhaps if you post your aac and mp4 custom-convert.conf entries we

Looking at the plugin source Wimp does use aac/mp4 streams.

Looking at the plugin source Wimp does use aac/mp4 streams.

Great!

Here is my custom-convert.conf:

mp3 mp3 * *
# IF
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $FILE$ -

aac mp3 * *
# IF
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $FILE$ -

mp4 mp3 * *
# IF
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $FILE$ -

mp3 mp3 * *
# R
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $URL$ -

aac mp3 * *
# R
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $URL$ -

mp4 mp3 * *
# R
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $URL$ -

I can´t see lame.exe even running as a process, though, so I guess I´m
doing something wrong.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-10-05 Thread MusicManiac

Quick question,

Does Squeezeslave support the stop/play/restart/etc on power off/on
as per the WebUI settings?

If I close SQS within a relatively short time-frame(enough that SBS
shows it's been disconnected) and then restart it, it will obey
whatever is set in the WebUI.

But if I wait any good amount of time, say 30 minutes to an hour, it
just stays stopped upon restarting. The playlist shows up, but it stays
stopped at the last song unless manually initiated.

Thanks,
-mm

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-09-30 Thread onocentaur

I've got a problem!
I'm using squeezeslave on OS X with squeezeserver 7.5.1. When playing
Napster or Last.fm, the playlist will not advance, it just sticks at
the end of the track. I can get to the next track by pressing advance
in the web controller. It will stick on every track in the playlist.
Music from my library is fine, although playlists which move from a
Napster track to a track from my library also stick.
I've tried this both with the latest binary from googlecode, as well as
compiling my own from source from svn (not sure if they're different),
with the same result.

This issue does *not* happen when I use Softsqueeze or Squeezeplay
under the same conditions, so unless there's something different that
Squeezeslave does with Squeezeserver when playing these sources, I can
only assume that the problem lies with Squeezeslave.

Any ideas?!

(Other than this, and no Spotify, I'm really loving squeezeslave :))

Hi - I guess it has already been explained somewhere else, but just in
case here is a solution if you want to have non 44.1 KHz files to be
played by squeezeplay : just add to your custom-convert.conf file
(assuming that LAME is properly configured)

mp3 mp3 squeezeslave *
# IF
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ --resample 44.1 -v --mp3input $FILE$ -

Hope this helps

Squeezeslave is trying to open your audio devices using 44.1KHz and
ALSA is returning an error that indicates the device doesn't support
it.

You could try loading the snd-pcm-oss module and then select the
/dev/dsp device, which should show up in the -L output.

Another option is to reconfigure the dmix device to be 44100 and let
alsa resample to 48000 for you.

From a command prompt change to the directory where you unzipped
squeezeslave and type;

squeezeslave-wasapi-0.9-173 -h

Displays all the command line options squeezeslave supports.

To change the mac address of the player use something similiar to this
option.

-m00:00:00:00:00:02

Note that squeezeslave does not work with many of the online music
services and I haven't used it with pandora.

See the 'squeezeslave wiki'

Thanks Ralph.

I made more progress last night and was able to get pandora to work
with SS when I changed the MAC. I think I need to make a batch file
with the new MAC address, is that correct? Otherwise I need to start

to save the squeezeslave.exe with a different MAC address?

My goal is to have squeezeslave start automatically when I turn on the
computer and not have to turn on my TV. I will control SS with squeeze
commander. Currently I have this working now, but pandora doesn't work
with the default address.

Hello,

I just installed squeezeslave and it's working great on my htpc. One
problem I'm having is when I click on My Apps with my controller it
says the player is registered to another owner. If I select pandora
from the squeezebox server it plays fine through squeezeslave.

Do i need to change the MAC address for SS so I can select Pandora with
my controller?

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to CLI, so if anyone could point me
in the direction, I would appreciate it. Do I need a 3rd party program

Thanks

I've created a thread at the official synology forum:
http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=130t=26581

The binary should be able to work on various devices as mentioned in
the thread. If you want to, you can host the .spk file in your
downloadsarea. Later I might ask synology to host the code along with
the squeezecenter packages.

After googling ARM and Marvel 6281 it seems like the normal arm
architecture is big endian, but the 6281 supports both little and big
endian (the synology manual says that it should be compiled to little
endian though). Perhaps two makefiles armli-oss and armbi-oss should be
created.

2010-07-28 Thread ralphy

I've renamed the arm makefile from makefile.linux26-arm-oss to
makefile.linux26-arm-oss at r176.
However, I have not added a big endian version as I don't want to add
untested makefiles to the archive.

I've uploaded the package to google code as well. The direct download

After removing every instance of --enable-shared=no the compiler
still yields the same error.
The build of makefile.linux26-display went fine, so I capable of doing
a non crosscompilation. The realclean command was executed before every
build attempt.

Perhaps there is something wrong with my setup. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04
and have followed the instructions at
http://download.synology.com/download/ds/userguide/Synology%20NAS%20Server%203rd-Party%20Apps%20Integration%20Guide.pdf
(22 pages) to setup crosscompilation for my DS109. I was able to compile
and execute a simple hello world application, but an advanced
application like squeezeslave might require more skills in
crosscompiling and linux than I possess.

I've only crosscompiled twice before, but to a mipsel-architecture
years ago.

Do you have other suggestions of what to do?

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-07-26 Thread ralphy

Looks like the makefile doesn't delete these files using realclean

After running make -f makefilename realcean run this find command. If
you get a listing similiar to mine. That's the problem.

squeezeslave$ find . -name '*\.o'
./lib/portaudio/pa_unix_oss/pa_unix.o
./lib/portaudio/pa_unix_oss/pa_unix_oss.o
./lib/portaudio/pablio/ringbuffer.o
./lib/portaudio/pa_common/pa_lib.o
./lib/portaudio/pa_common/pa_convert.o

Run
squeezeslave$ find . -name '*\.o' -exec rm {} \;
and then again
squeezeslave$ find . -name '*\.o'

If no files are listed now run a full make.

Also you only needed to delete the one --enable-shared=no on line 106.
I would suggest that you put them back.

If it works, let me know and I'll fix the mipsel makefile. It was
contributed so I haven't used it myself.

2010-07-25 Thread Jonas K

Hi Ralph

I'm trying to cross compile squeezeslave to a marvell 6281 arm
processor.
The compiler complains about some relocation stuff - which I've read is
due to some code is wrongfully being compiled to x86. The error message
is pasted below:

Code:

  arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc -I/usr/local/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/include
-L/usr/local/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/lib -s -static -o bin/squeezeslave

The toolchain has been downloaded from
sourceforge.net/projects/dsgpl/files/ and unpacked using this command:
tar zxpf gcc421_glibc25_88f6281.tgz –C /usr/local/

also saw in dmesg some alsa errors about not being able to set the

have to find it again and post it here

As of revision 173 the WASAPI binary supports opening devices in shared
mode using the -S/--shared command line option.

Settings in the Control Panel for the shared device must be set to
16-bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality).

If another program has already claimed exclusive access to the device,
squeezeslave will exit with the message 'error1: invalid device'

A test binary is available on 'google code'

Note that WASAPI is only available on Vista and Windows 7.

Sorry, I thought you were using OSS for the usb sound adapters.

You will need to at least load the snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss kernel
modules.

Alternatively, change --without-alsa to --without-oss on the configure
line. I believe the issue is having both APIs in the library. I
happen to stumble upon the same error you've been seeing during some
testing on the weekend and disabling the second hostapi I could open
the device.

I'm trying to gather more information before I report it to the
portaudio dev team.

makefile.linux26-alsa-display uses the portaudio development library
which includes support for alsa, oss and pulseaudio. Squeezeslave has
additional command line options with this makefile. It also uses the
newer v19 api.

makefile.linux26-display uses the stable portaudio library v0.18.1 and
only supports OSS. It uses the older v18 api. I'm planning to
depreciate this makefile eventually.

2010-07-17 Thread ralphy

Try increasing the 0 on line 312 of src/slimaudio/slimaudio_output.c to
see if that helps. Start with 1024, if you still get drop outs try
increasing it to 1536 and finally 2048. I wouldn't recommend setting
it higher than that.

Here's an example increasing the value to 1536, note the L at the end.

Code:

  - 0,
  // framesPerBuffer
  + 1536L,
  // framesPerBuffer

Make sure you change the one on line 312 as there are two calls to
Pa_OpenStream, you want the second one.

2010-07-17 Thread Antoniop

hi Ralphy,
Thanks a lot for the support.
Here's what I've done :
- Modified line 312 with the values mentionned
- recompiled :
make -f deprecated/makefile.linux26-alsa
- rerun with option -o 5 (pulse) then -o 0 (hda-intel)
I tried the different values from 1024 to 2048, but no real difference,
still stuttering and with the default output (that should be pulse),
still uses a lot of cpu.
On another thread, someone mentionned that hda-intel is 48kHz
http://forums.slimdevices.com/archive/index.php/t-58066.html
(I tried the given solution without success)
Could it be related to it ?
Thanks again

I don't think so.

Device 0 should be almost direct access to the pcm device whereas the
others have additional processing overhead. That's probably why you're
seeing the higher cpu usage.

Change line 312 of src/slimaudio/slimaudio_output.c back to it's
original value of zero. Try changing line 291 as follows.

Code:

  - outputParameters.suggestedLatency =
paDeviceInfo-defaultHighOutputLatency;
  +   outputParameters.suggestedLatency = 0.08;

If you still have drop outs increase this value from 0.08 to 0.085,
0.09, 0.095 and 1.0

Anyway, it works ! :) Finally !
I tried 0.08, 0.085, 0.09 and 0.1 but I still had drops.
Then I tried 1.0 and it was fine ! I also tried smaller values and

0.2
Is it important to set it to the smallest value ?
I can't hear any difference between 0.2 and 1.0, but it only plays
through the poor speakers of the laptop at the moment, I'll try with

Thanks a lot anyway and congratulations for squeezeslave, it's a really

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-07-16 Thread Antoniop

Hi,
Sound stutters with squeezeslave. I downloaded the last version on the
svn and compiled it without problem.
I have a eeepc 702 with hda-intel sound chip. The stuttering is not
very important, but enough to be quite anoying.
I'm using mandriva linux with xfce. It uses pulseaudio.
Without any option, squeeslave uses a lot of cpu (around 60%), wich is
a lot even on my very slow cpu. So I tried the different devices.
squeezeslave -L
Output devices:
0: HDA Intel: ALC662 rev1 Analog (hw:0,0)
1: front
2: surround40
3: surround51
4: surround71
5: pulse
6: dmix
* 7: default
8: /dev/dsp
and the best so far is 0. With that device set, it uses only 4% to 9%
of cpu. Using dmix causes a crash at startup and pulse makes no
difference with default.
Squeezeslave is not the only one player to stutter on my pc. VLC has
the same problem, but totem gives a perfect sound.
Anyway, I have all my stats on squeezeboxserver and I like this
program, so i'd rather use squeezeslave.

I've googled a lot and didn't found a solution. Some help would be
gratefully appreciated !

2010-07-11 Thread rperre

Ralphy.. trying to troubleshoot this a little closer but keep getting an
error message with the squeezeslave build with the display makefile.

I made the pa_linux_alsa.c the original
did re-tar -czf the portaudio-r1508 file
make -f makefile.linux26-display realclean
make -f makefile.linux26-display

squeezeslave -L tells me:

Code:

PortAudio error4: Host error. Could not open any audio devices.

if i build squeezeslave with the deprecated makefile and the same
portaudio-r1508 it works fine?

aplay -l and -L still show me the same audio devices as before

any options?

thanks,

Richard

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-07-08 Thread ralphy

Yes, the makefile extracts the tar file in the build directory and that
makefile uses pa_snapshot-20091022.tar.gz

Change line 18 from

LIBPORTAUDIO=pa_snapshot-20091022

to

LIBPORTAUDIO=portaudio-r1508

and the build will then use your modified portaudio-r1508.tar.gz

You really should be using makefile.linux26-alsa-display as I've
stopped maintaining the makefiles in the deprecated directory.

2010-07-07 Thread rperre

hey,

been trying to edit the pa_linux_alsa.c re-tarring the package and
building squeezeslave with it. but

i'm not convinced my patch is being build into squeezeslave.

i untar squeezeslave/sources/portaudio-r1508.tar.gz then go into the
portaudio/src/hostapi/alsa directory and edit the pa_linux_alsa.c
file.

I then go back to squeezeslave/sources and tar -czf portaudio-r1508
portaudio to save my changes to the tar file.

after this i try to build with the makefile
make deprecated/makefile.linux26-alsa realclean
make deprecated/makefile.linux26-alsa

i'm just not sure this makefile takes the above tar as a source?

looking in the makefile it almost looks like it finds it in
squeezeslave/lib/libportaudio/lnx26/build/portaudio/src/hostapi/alsa
This file changes each time... telling me it's being created, but not
with my changes

Can you clarify please?

Thank you,

Richard

You can increase the allowed rate error by increasing the 0.01 in line
1310 of pa_linux_alsa.c PADEV r1508

Code:

  1310:if( (fabs( *sampleRate - sr ) / *sampleRate) 0.01 )
  1311:{
1312: PA_DEBUG((%s: Wanted %f, closest sample rate was
%d\n,__FUNCTION__, sampleRate, sr ));
  1313:   PA_ENSURE( paInvalidSampleRate );
  1314:}

If you get the USB soundcard(s) to work with a larger value, post that
value here and I'll add the change to the linux alsa makefiles.

portaudio will fail with a message like the one in post '251'

I mean these cheap USB audio cards are the solution for me... but this

It's only fragile compared to commercial roadie sound gear. I have
yet to hear the DSP stumble.

I've tested with the 32 bit WinXP ASIO driver (downloaded from
behringer.com). Did a few standby/restart cycles. Works like a champ.
Sound (using ABA testing) seems a bit better than the SPDIF out from my
sound card. No real way for me to tell if the DSP in the 202's better
than the one in my receiver as the receiver doesn't have audio direct
pass through. Sounds good on headphones, though. I've ordered a second
unit to throw into my laptop bag - just for headphone audio.

Caveat: this was on WinXP only. There's a 64 bit windows driver, which
I haven't tried. Behringer lists Mac support but I didn't see
Mac-specific downloads (maybe Macs already have USB-ASIO?) No Linux
support (but, again, if there's USB-ASIO drivers already...?). And
finally, the Behringer ASIO driver owns audio on whatever USB port
you have the 202 connected to when you install the driver. No matter
for me, but if you have another USB audio device, you'll have to decide
that it's OK to not use one specific USB port for it.
