Re: [Dx4win] Islands on the Air (IOTA) Application Note
Jim thank you fro writing these infos. Even I have submitted many times my iota totals, there is always useful to have something remind us the procedure. a note: according C.3.2 of the rules, only callsign and island name must be printed on the card, so the iota number is not required as you have written. Also something we need to know is that sometimes the call of an iota in clublog is not the right one (for example instead of SV1DPI is SV1DPI_EU052). In these cases we need to upload a fake qso in clublog with this call to confirm it. Iota site helps on this as it mentions somewhere (sorry not remember where, I have some time to submit - it is difficult after 850 hi hi ) the activations in every group and clublog calls... 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 9/9/2024 21:01, ο/η Jim Reisert AD1C έγραψε: I have been working through the IOTA "flow" with my own QSOs and have learned a few things. Re: [Dx4win] need help generating POTA listing worked report
Dmitry sorry for the late response but I am a bit heavy loaded with work the last time. I can not see this behaviour in my dx4win 9.09. For example I go to Reports. I select custom award and in the new window I select the award I want. For example I select RDA (by the way typing F2, dx4win sorts the awards in alphabetic order). Dx4win goes and examine my log and finds the QSOs I have marked as valid for RDA award and have put also the right award value. If you are waiting dx4win finds out what oblast, etc is every QSO, no, it does not make it. But if you have marked every qso you need it does it. I use also AD1C's software to import my contest logs in dx4win and it populates the fields with the right values from the contest log when I run Russian dx (rda values) or working all germany (doks), etc. Also you can search for the QSOs you want. For example I type F8 and write RDA in Custom Award field. I get as an answer all RDA qsos in my logbook window. I can get an excel file from here (right click- write in a file- it writes in a csv file which I can import to excel) 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 4/6/2023 15:43, ο/η UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN έγραψε: Hi Scott and the group! two possibilities: 1) you have a 2nd log somewhere. If yes search for .dxl in your computer. 2) When you closed dx4win, it asked you if you want to save the file and you told no. groups is the right way to do it. you will have 2 groups for example one could be SV1DPI KM08QP and the second SX25DPI KM09AA One addition to what Dave said... *%% prints the group name* so you can modify the labels under greetings to something like this: @@ de %%* * this will print (in my example) *tnx or pse de SV1DPI KM08QP or SX25DPI KM09AA* So if you include DME and grid to group name and what other info you want to, you will save the more complicated step 3 in Dave's procedure. Here is a summary as to how I do it: 1. Create a group for each QTH. Go to Filter tab, Selection. It takes some time to learn how to create and save the groups. Check the help files or possibly Jim's website AD1C to learn how. 2. Import contacts from each QTH and select the correct group or change existing QSOs via the Multiple QSO operation under the QSO tab. This is tricky but can be done. 3. Once you have all QSOs assigned to the correct groups, you can now print labels. Here is how I do it: a. Go to File, Preferences, Rep/Lab tab at the bottom. b. Change the Greeting line to add your grid and Spanish DME for group1. Click on File, Save Changes to exit. c. Go to filter, selection to select group1 d. Click on QSLs, Print QSL labels. Be sure you select the correct label. I have created a custom label that includes the greeting line at the bottom of the label. e. Print your labels. You can repeat the process for group 2. Note that under filter, you can edit the group names. For example, you can name group 1 to the Home. Group 2 something else. You might also be able to create a custom label for each group and possibly print the Grid and DME directly at the bottom of the label, but I have not tried that. You would have one custom label for group 1 and a different custom label for group 2. If you can figure out how to create custom labels for each group, you would not have to change the greeting line manually for each group (step 3b above). I hope this helps. These functions are actually fairly simple once you gain some experience using them. Re: [Dx4win] Search For QSOs with Deleted Entities
If you ask a report (QSO window>Reports>DXCC) and check included deleted, you can go at the end where the deleted entities are, and double click on mixed, you will get all the QSOs of this entity. In case you have one of them checked you need to uncheck it to see but then I assume that you don't need to see this one... If you want to see all QSOs in each entity and not only Checked or confirmed, etc you can create a temporary log where you can clear confirmed QSLs and lotw, and clear also QSL date. Then the above procedure should work for all QSOs (really with the same "value" QSOs but value is now worked). Because I am outside of the shack I can not check it but I remember that works something like this, or not? 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 2/8/2022 22:56, ο/η N5KM - Kris έγραψε: Lee, Thanks for your effort coming up with that solution. Then I use the Multiple QSOs operations to Set Custom Award to the DLTD award. I did this for each deleted prefix. Now I can Filter my log for Custom Award = DLTD. Voila! All deleted QSOs are retrieved. The following involves many steps but once you do a section once, repeating it for other prefixes should be faster. Basically, you get a list of deleted DXCC countries that you have worked (Reports -> check "include deleted" -> OK). Then for each deleted country (indicated by a D in the column with "D" in the heading) that you have worked, note each "prefix". For EACH of those prefixes, do the following: 1) While on the QSO screen 2) Click Filter 3) Click "Cancel filter" 4) Hit F8 5) Hit the TAB key (or click in the Prefix box) 6) Enter a prefix you want to search for 7) Hit Enter 8) Click File 9) Click Import/Export 10) Click the highest DX4WIN format (Ex. DX4WIN8) listed 11) Click File 12) Click Export 13) Enter a file name for the .DXQ/.DXN file to be created (I used the prefix with any slashes changed to dashes -- OK/D would have filename OK-D) 14) Click SAVE 15) Click YES when it prompts with "Filter active, use it for export?" 16) For each prefix you extract, note the count of how many QSOs were exported. This will help you verify counts later -- after you make a log from all the exported files. 17) Click OK (after the export is done) 18) Click File 19) Click Exit Once you have created a export file (.DXQ/.DXN) for each of the deleted prefixes in your log: 20) Click File 21) Click NEW (create a NEW DX4WIN log file) 22) Navigate to the directory where the Export files were created 23) Specify the name of the log file that will contain all your exported data For each prefix file that you exported above, do the following: 24) Click File 25) Click Import/Export 26) Click the DX4WIN export version number that you used in step 3 above 27) Click File (on "Import / Export Filters" screen) 28) Click Import 29) Enter the export file name (Prefix?) that you used earlier 30) Click Open 31) On "Options for duplicate QSOs" screen, click OK 32) Click OK (after the import summary) 33) Click File 34) Click Exit If you have more prefixes to Import, go to step 24 Once you have Imported all your Prefix files: 35) Click File 36) Click SAVE (to save this log to disk) 37) Click File 38) Click Info In theory, the "Nr QSOs" value should equal the sum of the Imported QSOs counts in step 16 above One caveat I am aware of (might be others that my test file didn't find), I entered prefix of KZ5 which resulted in 60 QSOs. However, only ONE of the 60 QSOs actually had a prefix of KZ5 -- all the others had prefix of "K". To catch this situation, I suggest after you do an "export" of a prefix, verify that all selected QSOs have the "prefix" that you were after. Sorry this was so long. If anything doesn't make sense, contact me and I'll see what I can do to make it clearer. 73, Lee N7NU On 07/21/2022 2:28 PM N5KM - Kris wrote: Hi All, Is there a way to search/filter a log for

Re: [Dx4win] DXCC Report of QSL Cards
Normally, when doing a "mixed" DXCC submission (combination of paper cards and LoTW credits), you do the LoTW submission first, wait for it to be processed, then submit your paper cards Really this is the easier you can do. The most economical solution is to submit the cards first (same price until 120 cards) and the rest of the QSOs via LotW. Note that there is not a Mixed application anymore. Supposing dx4win knows your dxcc standings or you have not submitted again, you need to know that if you submit via dx4win (reports>dxcc>submit), dx4win randomly select cards and LotW confirmations. This means if you have a QSO confirmed both ways, dx4win will pick one of them. I suggest to go file>awards>dxcc. Under confirmation QSL card and LotW are checked. Check only one of them, what you want to give priority. Save it and make submission. After you finish it and change these QSOs to checked, go again to file>awards>dxcc and check both again and make a 2nd submission. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 5/3/2022 05:26, ο/η Mike Cizek W0VTT έγραψε: Hello Bert, The answer to your question depends on what you have done before this: 1. have you made ANY DXCC submissions? 2. if so, have you made them through dx4win so the program knows which countries you have submitted? 3. is this your initial DXCC submission, or an endorsement? 4. have you applied any of your LoTW credits to your DXCC account? In order to be able to use QSOs and confirmations in several awards, someone needs to enable 2 fields. Re: [Dx4win] Omitting IOTA info in spots
When you press ALT+A to announce a dx spot you can uncheck the iota field below and these infos will disappear. Unfortunately there is not an option to have this unchecked by default and you need to do it every time. You have right that it is not good to spot something wrong and if you are not an iota chaser, you will not know the right info. About QSX problem: I see it sometimes. I don't think it is so usual but it happens from time to time. I don't know why it happens. Maybe the rig driver? I use a yaesu ft 1000mp mark v field. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 26/1/2022 18:38, ο/η Tim moore έγραψε: I will say I too am curious how to NOT spot the IOTA info. It has no rhyme or reasonit just randomly does that on SOME of my DX spots (thankfully, many spot correctly). I've learned I have to check for that bogus QSX freq and delete it before I spotthough sometimes, I mess up and miss it and spot itmaking others go "uh?". So.in that regard..since I'm not an IOTA chaser, I can't help but wondersometimes...if the IOTA info is WRONG also? I wouldn't know.as I don't chase IOTA and don't check it. But since I see the WRONG QSX freqs trying to get spotted for some reason, it stands to reason..the wrong IOTA info might also get spotted sometimes? And thus, I don't want to spot the IOTA info. Of course I guess the bigger question is WHYdoes my DX4WIN sometimes.about a fourth of the time.want to spot some ridiculous QSX second split freq when I'm not working split (and again, a QSX freq that is really bizarre and makes no sensenot something like 5 khz up for voice or 1 khz up for cw.but stuff like oddball freqs like the 18.137.01 in my example above!). Re: [Dx4win] Converted ADIF import sets eQSL flag
I think you need to uncheck the upload flag box in AD1C software. Possibly this uncheck the lotw flag as well. There is always the option to clear eqsl upload flags after import. In qso window go to eqsl>clear eqsl upload flag. This is for entire log. Differently do a search first. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 8/12/2021 23:11, ο/η Randy Farmer έγραψε: I don't care to participate in eQSL, so I've set my program preferences to NOT set the eQSL Upload flag when a new entry is added to the log. I then use AD1C's very useful ADIF to DX4WIN conversion utility (currently version 9.8) to generate a DX4WIN version 9 dxq file that I import into DX4WIN. Lately I have been noticing that every time I import such logs all QSOs end up having the eQSL Upload flag set. I always have to run the DX4WIN routine to clear these upload flags. I finally did a careful analysis of the situation and determined that the eQSL flag is indeed being set on import. Re: [Dx4win] Import ADIF
Sorry Luc but I can not understand your question. I am trying to explain the procedure confirming QSOs using LotW QSLs: You go to LotW and download your LotW report. Really this is an adif file. It's name or the download date does not affect anything. Then you run dx4win.In QSO windows (this is the window you write the callsign) go to LotW>Confirm LotW using ADIF file. Re: [Dx4win] Adif fields
I don't think so. One station can use different power in every QSO, so the right is to put power used during the QSO in "Notes for this QSO" On the the other side, comment could be something abt the qso (for example I heard it with QSB) but usually is something about the station (for example: he uses a quad like me). So the normal is to put it in "Notes for this call" which applies for all QSOs of this call. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 12/9/2021 13:01, ο/η RCSEG έγραψε: QUOTE I checked, using the default ADIF import in DX4Win v9. Also a site with many awards is https://dcl.darc.de/~dcl/public/index.php where you can get, among others, the working all continents (WAC) award for free! By the way, I refuse to follow DXCC the last time because i disagree with their decision to accept ft8 in mixed mode (this is another story) and I am chasing other awards which some of them are very interesting and far more difficult. *Something more related with the next day of DX4win*, is that every time I need to export a file and upload it to: LotW, Eqsl, Clublog, hamlog, qrz and possibly others. This procedure needs to be automatic. It's a pain to upload log manually at least to 4-5 sites, every time. Also I would like a window like zones, iota, etc. in dx4win to watch one of the custom awards in real time. At least I need to be able to see if I have the rda or the award value I am typing in real time in a window. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 12/4/2021 21:12, ο/η Jim Reisert AD1C έγραψε: Reposed with permission from The Daily DX (TM), Vol. 25 No. 071 - April 12, 2021 There is a "Russian District Award" (RDA) diploma program: http://rdaward.org/indexeng.htm. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN.CTY country file Release #21.7 - 23 March 2021
Hello Alan If you update with the last country file, iota numbers will be updated according country file. If you have a QSO marked with something different iota number in your file, a notice will be inserted in "Notes for this QSO" field and iota will get the number the country file has. This notice will look as IOTAMSG: something more for example IOTAMSG: added IOTA So you need to search (F8) for IOTAMSG: in "Notes for this QSO" field This will return some QSOs. In my case about 40 QSOs returned. You need to look these QSOs and compare with original QSL cards. Send the QSOs you don't agree to Jim. Why to do it? 1) help all other hams to have a right database 2) correct some mistakes you possibly have 3) possibly you will find some calls with an added iota and possibly this is a new one for you (the most of 40 QSOs were added iotas - unfortunately not something new this time - hi hi). I have worked over 850 iotas and at least 850 checked and found some mistakes I did, some Jim did and some new (in previous releases) I hadn't asked for a card! 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 1/4/2021 06:26, ο/η Alan Zack έγραψε: I AM an IOTA chaser. Or will I just see a message in the NOTES FOR THIS QSO or NOTES FOR THIS CALL telling me there is a mismatch? The RSGB IOTA website maintains a list of IOTA's I have confirmed, pending, and needed. I wish there was a way for me to download a DX4WIN file to update my RSGB/IOTA record on their website. The RSGB/IOTA website has come a long way. When I first started the only way to confirm an IOTA was to have a card checker confirm a match with a paper QSL. Then they were able to confirm a match from IOTA contest files matching. Then matching via ClubLog, and now matching via LOTW (but many DX do not have their IOTA number on file in their LOTW record so sometimes there is no match). It started as an attempt to add European IOTAs from 2010-2021 that begin with the letter 'P' (only The Netherlands [Holland] PA), which I did. I moved on to the calls beginning with 'R', but found that most of them had already been added to the database. Something sparked me to revisit all the IOTA associated with Papua New Guinea, P2. The upcoming S21DX DXpedition had me reviewing all the IOTA in Bangladesh. I also learned that there is a little part of Market Reef (OJ0) that counts as Sweden, SM for DXCC purposes. Then I got a little carried away researching a list of several thousand callsigns (by date) that my software indicated needed to be reviewed (that job is far from over). I honestly do not know how many IOTA operations were added to the country file this time around, but it was at least 860 (that's the last number I remember seeing). After the database is released for DX4WIN 9.0x users, if you are an IOTA chaser, please run the Multiple QSO Operation "Check IOTAs" and let me know how many mistakes I made. It's best if you have a QSL to verify against your log. My data comes from DX spots which many times can be incorrect or misleading. I'm already planning to work on the European 'S' callsigns next. That includes Sweden (SM), Poland (SP) and Greece (SV). I may also work on 'T' which is only Iceland (TF), Corsica (TK) and France (TM), of which many (most) should already be in the database. It's unlikely I'll get to the Russian (UA etc.) calls before the next release. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , https://www.ad1c.us __ __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I started to write an application note for IOTA, but never really finished it, nor did I make it visible on the web site (I guess I'll do that). http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/iota.html I'll just hit some of the high points below. The IOTA field in your logbook works like the State and Grid fields -- it is stored with the QSO record, and does NOT change when a new country file is released. When logging a QSO, DX4WIN may automatically fill in the IOTA field if it can uniquely determine the IOTA from the callsign and date, based on information contained in the country file. Some DXCC entities like Barbados, 8P have a single IOTA (NA-021). Some IOTA are determined by prefix, for example, IG9 is AF-019 and IH9 is AF-018. And there are thousands of callsigns in the country file that are mapped to a particular IOTA, for example CE7KF is IOTA SA-018. DX4WIN will also attempt to assign IOTA when importing QSOs. In DX4WIN 9.01 and later, there is a Multiple QSOs operation for checking the IOTA fields in your log: QSO | Multiple QSOs operations | Check IOTAs. This does the following four things: 1. If the IOTA field is empty, and the IOTA can be determined from both the callsign and date (i.e. via the country file), then an IOTA is assigned to that QSO. 2. If the IOTA field is not empty, is the IOTA correct based on the callsign and date, given the information in the country file? In other words, if the IOTA field was blank, would DX4WIN have filled it in with the same IOTA as you chose? If they do not match, DX4WIN will do the following two things: a. Put the "correct" IOTA into the IOTA field in the logbook. b. Add some information to the "Notes for this QSO field": "IOTAMSG: Bad IOTA=OC130" In this case, OC130 was what your log had *before* running Check IOTAs. I wrote "correct" because the country file can (and probably does) have errors. If you think that DX4WIN made an incorrect substitution, and you have the QSO confirmed, please send me the information from the QSL card (IOTA and Island Name) as well as the callsign and date, and I'll look into it. 3. If the IOTA Island field is empty, DX4WIN will populate that field in the logbook if the IOTA group has only one island. Some examples of this are Barbados, 8P (IOTA NA021) and Luzon Island, DU4 (IOTA OC042). 4. If the IOTA Island field is not empty, check that it is a valid island for the given IOTA group. If the island if not valid, you will get an error message like this: IOTAMSG: Bad Island=6312 The number above refers to the numerical code provided by the IOTA committee to represent the island name in the IOTA group. It is unusual for this to happen, but not unheard of. I had a number of such errors in my logbook from QSOs which had the wrong prefix/country assigned to them at one point in time, but subsequently changed based on new information in the country file. There is also a Multiple QSOs Operation to remove all the IOTA error messages from your log, once you have resolved all the problems. So in summary: 1. DX4WIN assigns the IOTA field automatically if it can do so. 2. Subsequent releases of the country file will not change the IOTA field in any QSO. 3. There is a Multiple QSOs Operation to check the IOTA fields in your log. Please reply to m

Re: [Dx4win] "e-QSL --> DX4WIN"
I suggest to upload the entire log. You need to be sure that every QSO has eQSL=Y To do this: In QSO window: eQSL>Clear eqsl upload date and then eQSL>Set eqsl upload flag This will make all the QSOs to be ready for uploading If you want to upload only a part, you need to make a search between dates: Be sure that in file>preferences>QSO the QSO Date=Range Then fit F8 and write the 2 dates (start and end) and then the above procedure. Then eQSL>Export to eqsl. Name the file and upload it to eqsl. You will have been asked if you want to clear flags, etc. Answer yes... First of all you need to select these QSOs. I assume that these are between 2 dates. So go to file>preferences>QSO and be sure that in QSO Date you have "Range". This allows you to select QSOs between 2 dates. Save and exit Then press F8 and write the 1st date. Enter and write the 2nd date Now you have selected the QSOs you want to clear label flags. Hello Bill After you mark the qsos to be uploaded, you need to export the file which is going to be signed. So go to LoTW>Export to LoTW. Then you will be prompted to give a name to the file, let's say ad4dnLOTW and you will be able to get an adif file. Re: [Dx4win] Log import
Hello Bruce, did you find a solution? Probably under File>preferences>QSO tab the default value for Band is 60m. This is why dx4win puts QSOs which normally can not recognize on this band. The right dx4win procedure for this is 1) Let the QSO confirmed as it really is. I can not understand well your question. To submit for WACounties you need to go to Reports. Then in Award box select County and in Report/Action box select Submission. When your qsos are checked by the award manager, you need to go again to Reports>County and press on Award flags>Cnty mixed and Submitted->Checked and change. I operated the ARRL VHF contest this weekend and had N1MM and WSJT-X working together. Every time I made a FT8 contact in WSJT-X, the contact was automatically added in N1MM. This allowed me to keep track of dupes and scoring in real time. Everything worked very seamlessly. Both programs actually exchanged information back and forth via the UDP broadcasts. We need the same capability in DX4WIN. I have made over 7,500 FT8 and FT4 contacts over the past two summers. Both modes are becoming increasingly critical for weak signal DXing on 160 meters and 6 meters especially. Although I have added to my DXCC band totals using FT8 on several of the other bands as well. It is not very handy to have to manually import the adi logfile from WSJT-X into DX4WIN. There are times in the heat of the moment that you need the contacts added to DX4WIN but you do not have time to stop and do the import. This happened to me this summer in the middle of a major opening into EU on 6 meters when I had a screen full of G stations calling me. Adding the WSJT-X contacts automatically and in real time helps be to verify call signs, ensure the QSOs are valid and quickly report spots on the cluster. It also helps me to see when I have worked a new country and to look up more info about a station via the QRZ.COM XML interface. Paul, is there any reason that you do not think it is a good idea to support the importing of QSOs via UDP broadcasts? I wonder what other users think. Any comments? Re: [Dx4win] Problem with DX spots window (my own fault)
Have you ticked boxes under File>Preferences>Packet3 also? 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 18/7/2019 04:19, ο Joe έγραψε: A couple of days ago I accidently clicked the DX4WIN icon on my task bar twice instead of once. That put me into the DEMO mode, but it did more than that. When I exited and reopened with one click I was back to square one and all my settings, preferences, windows, etc. were gone. Strangely, the data files in the save directory were still there. Using some of the past backups, I was able to get everything back to normal except for one thing: Spots show up normally in the Packet Window and are transferred as usual to the "DX spots (DXCC) Sorted by Time" window except that the preference for every spot is 9 and therefore all the info for every spot is gray. I have the appropriate frequency and mode boxes checked in both the File>Preferences>Station tab and the File>Awards tab. In File>Preference>Packet the color scheme for DXCC is checked and there the colors are normal. I've tried the Help functions but don't see anything that addresses this specific problem. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN.CTY country file Release #18.14 - 20 November 2018
Hello Jim I made the IOTA routine and found only one mistake ZL3TE/P is on OC036 from 17-19 Jan 2016 and on OC201 from 25-26 Jul 2015 I had some no sense mistakes (gb18fifa) also. You had right on these. One that made me to search was YB9/DL3KZA It seems you had right finally but this guy seems to be active from several different islands with this call. for example 17-20/Nov/2014 OC151 21-27/Nov/2014 OC151 9-Dec-2013 OC150 (and possibly other dates near to this) I had him on 22 Nov 2017 as OC148 but according cluster spots it was OC150. I corrected it to this one but possibly I would like to search more as I had filled also the island name and it's a strange mistake. 73 Kostas SV1DPI Στις 20/11/2018 19:46, ο Jim Reisert AD1C έγραψε: http://www.country-files.com/dx4win-cty-18.14-20-november-2018/ In addition to the usual stuff, this was a big release for "Islands on the Air" (IOTA) chasers who are using DX4WIN 9.0x. Users of older DX4WIN versions can stop reading at this point unless it encourages you to upgrade! Until Paul updates some things on his end, "Help | Check for Updates" may not get you the latest files for DX4WIN 9.0x. But you can go to the URL above and click on the word "download" next to this text: [download] DX4WIN 9.01 and later Once you have downloaded the file, and exited DX4WIN, extract these three files: country.dat islands.txt prf2iota.tx to your DX4W90x SAVE directory, then start DX4WIN. I added over 1000 callsign to IOTA mappings. You can scroll down the Relase Notes to the IOTA section to see the changes. The majority of these were Africa and Asia stations from 2010 and later, as found in DX spots. Because I created the list by hand (and DX spots can be unreliabale), there are likely to be errors. I have already checked the new database against the logs of three different active IOTA chasers and fixed several problems, but I know there are more (for at least a couple of callsigns, I deferred the research until the next release). I wrote a preliminary application note about IOTA about a year ago. Despite getting some feedback from reviewers (thanks!), I have not yet incorporated their changes into the document (crazy busy at work for the last year). You can read the whole note, but please pay attention to this section: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/iota.html#Check I would appreciate other active IOTA chasers to check their log against the new database. The easiest way is this: 0. Save your log! 1. F8, put '*' (asterisk or star, without the quotes) in the IOTA field, then Enter 2. QSO | Multiple QSO Operations | Check IOTA 3. F8, put IOTAMSG in the "Notes for this QSO" field, then Enter. This will filter to only the QSOs with IOTA mismatches. 4. There are two types of mismatches you may see: Bad IOTA - this means that the IOTA is not valid for the DXCC entity indicated by the callsign (Prefix field). For USA stations, it may mean the IOTA is not valid for the State shown for that QSO. Unique Island - this is the IOTA that the DX4WIN country database believes to be correct for that QSO. 5. If you feel comfortable reviewing the differences and making corrections yourself, please do so! It will save me time. Don't assume that the Unique Island message is always correct. This is one kind of error that I am trying to expose and fix. Bad IOTA messages may also indicate a problem in the database. Some islands have changed DXCC entity over the course of time, and it's possible that the old DXCC entity does not think the IOTA is valid. Once example is Ducie Island, which used to be part of the Pitcairn Island DXCC entity until it was split off into a separate DXCC entity. 6. To send me the listing for review, bring up a Logbook Report window with these fields (right-click to use the Report Editor), preferably in this order (with the IOTAMSG filter still in place): - Callsign - Date - Time - Band - Mode - Prefix - IOTA - QSO Notes (note: *not* Callsign notes) 7. Right-click in the Logbook window and select "Write to File". Give the file name with both your call and the word IOTA, like AD1C_IOTA.csv 8. E-mail me that file as an attachment. 9. You can discard the log changes by closing your log and opening it again. I will review the mismatches and let you know if your logbook needs any corrections. And I will make database corrections as needed. The goal is for you to be able to "Check IOTA" and get *zero* IOTAMSG errors. I will be working on OC IOTA next, then probably EU, SA and NA (in that order). I'm hoping to be done with this by the end of the year, for QSOs made in 2010 and later. Next year, I may go back and try to extract IOTA callsigns from DX spots made before 2010. 73 - Jim AD1C __

IOTA program database does not mention Abbasak (following the maps in IOTA Database seems to have the same name as for Shif?...) and shows Shif. Could it be updated? Thanks de Luis, CT4NH Hi Luis, The IOTA group has stopped providing the file that is required by users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier (fulllist.xml). They now provide a file in a different format (JSON). I have an island update for DX4WIN 9.0x users that I will be uploading this weekend. Here is the list of islands for AS-189, showing Shif: [AS189] Name=Bushehr Province group 0795=Farsi 0794=Khark 0793=Nakhilu 0792=Omm ol Karam 00014575=Shif PREFIX=EP DXCC=EP I have been extremely busy at work and have not had time to convert the JSON file to something that DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier users can use. There is no solution for users of DX4WIN 8.05 and earlier at this time, except to upgrade by going to http://www.dx4win.com. Serious IOTA chasers who are using DX4WIN really should consider upgrading. If you are running DX4WIN 9.0x and want a copy of the islands file early, please send me E-mail off-reflector. 73 - Jim AD1C __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
