Martin,
On paper it would not be too difficult to build an IF crystal ladder
filter for the K2 whose stopband attenuation is an honest 100db or better,
with a passband ripple of something less than 0.5db - probably less than
0.25db. But the filter would require good quality high Q crystals,
Martin,
Bad mistake! The mixer that is mentioned in my last paragraph is a TUF-1 of
course, not a TUF-3. Sorry about that, cannot type!

There are some blue resistors that sometimes need an ohmmeter
check to verify their values. Seems the color bands on a
blue background can sometimes be hard to read. I checked every
one as I went to be sure I had the correct value.
It is most useful during debug, as you guessed.

Hello,
I am a fairly new builder. I have been doing some soldering on
and off for about a year. I managed my way through a NorCal
keyer and a SWL 20+. I have a few more kits here to build
and practice on...then I hope to order up a K1.
Right now I am working on a T1 ATU kit. I am at the
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if this is normal behavior: I have my K2 set up with my DL1
dummy load. With output set to 5 watts, when I hold tune I sometimes get
about 4.6 and sometimes 5 - 5.something and sometimes 6 to 6. something.
This happens on all bands and at various power settings. Is it

Sam,
That is normal. The power control ALC is not active during TUNE in order to
allow you to tune a manual antenna transmatch without causing the power to
fluctuate wildly with changes in the load impedance as you tune.
If you check the keydown level you will see more consistent power levels.

Currently have the mic audio to pin 1 and mic ground to pins 7 and 8 at the

Greetings,
I finished my K1 last week and everything went fine. Both resistance
and voltage check were perfect and the alignment procedures were good,
too, both rx and tx but I have only used a dummy load on the tx and
didn't transmit into an antenna.
Today I finished and installed the KNB1 and

John,
Thanks for the info. It seems to work pretty well for the slimdevices.com folks,
but I only hang out there once in a while.
I just remembered gmane.org, too - they do an email/nntp/forum cross post

I'll second Andrea's remarks on mail lists being far superior to web

Yesterday I decided I needed the BL2 and ordered it.
Today it arrived, with the 80m module for the KX1.
Even the postman was cheerful and rang the doorbell to deliver the box.

Glenn,
I would suggest wiring the mic configuration header straight across for all
pins to be used - use the little computer type jumpers.
Wire the mic plug with your PTT switch between pin 2 and ground (use pin
7) - AF to pin 1 and AF Return to pin 7.
If the RS mic is an dynamic type, that is

i worked in a failure analysis lab and i can send you pictures of

Some can be latent and fail much later.

Ron,
This was into a dummy load.
I had it into the KAT100 which was disabled and unplugged. So only the
feedline was left connected though the ATU. Once I removed the KAT100 it
worked.
With the AT removed I did check power output into a dummy load and got the
following

Just completed alignment test Part I but, have one glitch. The 5th

You should see 100 watts on ALL bands so, yes, those are down. Are you
making a minimum of 10 watts out on all bands with the KPA100 disabled?
I don't have a KAT100 myself, so I won't speculate on what might have caused
your original issue beyond the obvious observation that, apparently, it

Recent model K2, just built the K60XV for it. VRDET looks fine .. half
a volt at the low end up to about 3.5 on the high end, and the

the XV out pegs at about 150mw indicated and if I back the poiwer down

Hi Michael.
1. Keep the Humidity up as high as possible.
2. Keep your wrist strap on when handling your rig,
stay grounded and keep your ESD sensitive rig on the ground mat.
The most important thing is to stay at the same potential as your rig.
Touch the chassis of your rig before touching

John,
I've seen those symptoms when the XV power out was adjusted to 20
watts at the high end of the band. The K2 28MHz band has a bandwidth
of 800KHz. If the XV 20 watt power is adjusted at a frequency much
over that 800KHz bandwidth, the K2 isn't really putting out the full

I received mine today in USPS.
I finished the mods to the KX1 board and they are easy straight forward. I
have begun the KXB3080 board, but not installed.
Hope to be done tomorrow.

Well as it turns out, my current draw is high. About 2.48 according to the
K2 display. This was at around 8 watts (2:00 position) on the band I
checked. But all bands appear to be around that 2.45-2.5 range.
I checked the finals to make sure there is no short to ground and they did
not.
Also, just noticed the book says the CAL CUR should be set for 3.5A. Mine
was down to 2.5. I am guessing some software I am testing did this. But now
that I have that bumped up, my current is much higher. Like 3.25.

Well thanks for everyones comments.
The CAL CUR made a big difference. And after I powered it off and back on,
everything seemed pretty good. Did a partial alignment after that. The radio

2.6 now.

Howard,
Although I follow your thinking, I speculate that the MC1350 IF amplifier
and NE602 Product Detector in the K2, and possibly Q25, could be generating
much of the nuisance audio hiss, even when the RF Gain is turned off.
Unfortunately I cannot power up my K2 at the moment to check this

The basic KX1 covers 40 and 20 meters. The KXB3080 adds 30 meters and 80
meters, making it a 80/40/30/20 meter rig.
If you aren't interested in 80 meters but want 30 meters, there is also the
