I carried out some very basic tests today to determine whether the keying
waveform and characteristics of my K2 (#5390) was acceptable. I set up the K2
in one room running at 10 watts output on 28200 into a dummy load, sending a
string of cw dots. In another room I set up an Icom IC-781 on
I don't use my K2 for EME but it is my main rig for microwave weak signal
work, largely on CW. I tend to use the SSB filter for CW and rely on my
ears for filtering, and have not found filter ripple to be a significant
problem.
On the plus side it is nice to have direct read out of frequencies

I am interested in the possibility of using the Palm mini - paddle
and cube in Ultimatic mode as a portable key for my K2.
The UK distributor (W S) has been very helpful but cannot find out
from the specs whether Ultimatic is supported by the cube, but
confirms that the Cubes in stock now
Hi guys,
I just upgraded my firmware and installed the CW modkit. All seems to be going
well.
I do notice now that when my GrPH is in dOt mode I get momentaryand alternate
flickering of the 2nd and 7th led when I am running 10 watts (when I transmit
CW).
This did not happen prior to the
G'morning Dave:
Since I never use the dot mode on the K2 I had not noticed it. However, I
am seeing the same thing on K2 #5413, but not necessarily the 2nd and 7th
bar flickering... anywhere from the 3rd to 5th and the 7th to 9th. Whether
it should do this or not, I can't say. As you say, it is
just acquired a used KX1 and trying to figure out the wiring of the
stereo key plug both for a straight key and for a paddle. I only have the
PDF version of the manual, where do I find it? or is there a standard
method of doing it?

Rob,
I have recently built a Jackson PK-4 keyer kit and it does indeed support
the Ultimatic mode.

Gee, Tom, are you going to miss her? (hi-hi - couldn't resist).
I know the feeling and I don't understand it. This is NOT junk. Well, to
us, anyway. To her, maybe.
Good luck on your endeavors.

I'm back from vacation and raring to go (radio-wise, that is)! The
place my family stays at up in Lake George, NY is beautiful; but sadly,
it's pretty much an RF black hole. So my brass poundin' fingers are
itching and all set to go. Fortunately, this Sunday night will be the
July RFTB.
Hello,
I checked the DX Summit and it looks like 10 meters is open.
So I started to call CQ on 28.060 MHz.
Worked KC8YZB in MI before the thunderstorms shut me down here in EPA.

Hi
It has indeed been open for a while. Here in Europe, just local contacts
within 500 or 600 hundred miles, occasionnally South America or North Africa
( gray line ?).
Not real DX, but it keeps the band alive !
With 10 watts and a good beam, you can enjoy yourself a lot.
Have a nice week-end
Fellow Elecrafters:
I notice that many of these new fangled computers no longer have
serial ports. They typically have USB ports. On the other hand, radio
gear such as the K2 has a port that looks a lot like a serial port.
How are they mated up; is there such a thing as a USB/serial
10m is indeed open here on the US West Coast. Lots of NAQP RTTY
stations on.

Yep. Serial to USB adapters are available wherever you find computer
accessories.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
If you use a common Serial Port cable to hook your K2 to your computer,
you'll destroy the K2 port! The K2 handles serial data, all right, but the
pin-out isn't directly compatible
Yep, just worked Jerry, NR5A, in SD. Both of us 5 watts. Now for some
