convenience it's hard to beat a simple length of wire with a few radials on
the ground. I don't have 80-meters on my KX1 but I use a 42-ft wire for 40,
30, and 20. Of course that length won't help you, but

I am considering the SDR14 as a band monitor via the IF out on the K3. It
would be used in the presence of a linear (87a), and I am wondering if there
are any special considerations to protect it.

If the threads of your tap mesh the screw, then the screw is NOT metric.
Metric size is noticeably different. If your tap's diameter also matches,
I'd go for it.

alignment on page 80 where confusion entered and ignorance poked his head in

Yes, use TUNE - set the power level to somewhere between 1.5 and 2 watts
and adjust for peak output. Be certain to follow the band order
indicated. The bands are arranged in pairs, and the inductors for that
pair must be adjusted before the capacitors.
