Greetings,
I have an unbuilt Tin Ear Reciever Kit, which I bought from the American QRP

I did this mod yesterday to my S/N 4119 and am documenting it primarily for

Rob,
Thanks for your helpful comments.
My setup has a KAT-100 in it and the KAT-100 is, apparently, is the source
of the power level measurement, not the KPA-100. I've got the Elecraft
dummy load and your suggestion was great.
At this point it looks like the R98 replacement is the way to go.
When I spin the VFO on my K3, the grass on the P3 increases in amplitude and
also moves up the screen both.
Normal?

Any guidance on the artifacts I am seeing with the P3?
I have the problem that has been discussed in detail. When I tune to certain
frequencies, I will get a blip on the screen that is 5-6 dB above the noise
and I have the classic artifact that is ~3 kHz wide and 4-5 dB above the noise

I would touch up the SWR using the KX3 internal tuner. 1:1, ok, now

a) PA off (QRP mode)?
b) PA on (QRO mode)?

Hi Mike,
Not normal.
You may need to perform the K3 VFO noise mod. I had P3 grass on 6 meters
and the mod corrected the problem.

Hi Mike,
Thinking of N6BT Tom Schiller's famous LBOTA demonstrations at Pacificon and
elsewhere (Light Bulbs on the Air), I wonder if any one has a documented a case
of HOTA (Ham on the Air): Someone with no antenna other than themselves.
Maybe connect one side of the antenna to a stake in

now.
In QRO mode the current is very dependent on the input power and there are some
band to band variations.

Chris,
If you have both the KPA100 and the KAT100 in the system, the power
output is measured with the KPA100 wattmeter.
If the KAT100 is used on a K2/10 than the KAT100 wattmeter is used for
power output measurement.
Take both the KPA100 and KAT100 away and the base K2 uses a simple diode
Jim,
Have you tried re-dressing the ribbon cable routing inside the P3? That
is an important item. Check the P3 assembly manual to make certain the
cables are routed in the proper manner.

Mike,
Do you have a good return path for the RF from the antenna? If not,
then yes, your body and its coupling to earth will have an effect on the
tuning that will vary with power level. A good counterpoise should cure it.
If that is not your problem source, then look for a connection

you have dual watch feature enabled? Either of these will prevent the roofing
