When you were working HA5JI, you had a side band about s6 up about
600 Hz. I did not check the down side. Your main signal was s9+20.
I was at work so I said I would listen when I got home

Do not assume that this entirely due to poor isolation. Much of it
probably is, but not all.
I remember about 40+ years ago, hearing a friend on 15m on a dead
band. He was only around 2 miles from, but he was really weak. I
called him.
Turns out, he was testing on his DUMMY LOAD. No second
check the references for SPLIT SAVE in Config...you'll be happier.

Can not one simply hook up a footswitch via a Y connector to the KEY
IN on the back? The other half of the Y connector going to your key
(or keyer output). Of course, you'll have to be in VOX on cw.
Is that what you mean?

I have it resolved now. For the record, I am using Firefox and that
is where the conversion of numbers to teleco numbers took place. I
disabled the add-on (under TOOLS) while under my log-on (XP). Still
works when they kids log on

The following request for information is not specific to the K3 (or
even to Elecraft). Please craft your response to be generic.
Despite being an active ham/contester for over 40 continuous years
(but not being an ee), I just do not understand how a preamp works.
It is not a smart device,
I have ONLY experienced something like this when using my logging
program to drive the K3. I have never seen this when the computer
is turned off and I use the K3 all by itself.
Here is what I did to solve the problem when using the
computer...with the computer / contest software running:

As far as I am concerned, there have been a lot more failed encoders
than have been cited on the elecraft reflector. I personally has
three guys call me to inquire about it (months ago now) and none of
them posted anything here. The first guy got a try swapping with VFO
A approach and since VFO

While I sure as heck do not even know a tiny fraction of the users
here, I have had several that I do know and who have gotten their
radios of late cite this condition. In kit form, you can swap A and
B and see if the problem moves. If it does, it's a bad encoder.

(mostly the latter) and I never found the alt I/II useful for my style
of operating either.
