I have not been at my K3 for a couple of years and today I sat down to
update everything. Hopefully, I can work the 3Y.
Slight problem. The power knob disintegrated in my fingers when I went
to turn it. Is this normal for a K3 Ser# 5934.

Thanks to all that have replied. I started running 1AW with another receiver as
a monitor. Then during the run I bumped my head
phones and the monitor started working again even though I had no problem with
the receive audio. Crazy..

is going to hear much better than KQ8M because of his
antenna advantage BUT KQ8M does occasionally hear stations better that K1TTT
due to propagation.
If you're a strict number cruncher then stay away but if you want to know if
you are being heard elsewhere
Actually there was a loop advertised and reviewed by QST as an antenna that
works and had a very good flat SWR. Turns out it had a
50ohm resistor across the connector sealed inside.

I have used a 2 speed sewing machine foot switch for the past 40 years. I used
the first switch so I don't have to push very much.

I think the problem with white is it will readily show all kinds of dirt
including something as minor as skin oils. This will end up discoloring the
rig around the knobs and switches. With, black, green and grey they are not
as readily visible.

Yes, it sure does.
I have the KRC2 and use it with my K3. I purchased an Ameritron RCS-8v 5
port remote antenna switch and just paralleled the control box with the
KRC2. It is so nice not having to worry about what antenna you are on. It is
totally automatic.

Sounds like they have no clue on how to improve Windows other than the
bling. So it is going to be a service pack for win7 that is going to cost

My type of mic didn't need the bias so I used the same adapter for my IC746
Pro with my K3. The only difference I could see was I could not use the PTT
through the adapter as the pinout was different for PTT but the mic pins
were the same.

Here's a suggestion that will never fly: If they are giving out free maps at
Dayton, how about mailing registered owners of the major Elecraft equipment
one each? I could go for that since I don't go to Dayton due to health
problems.

Out of all of the possible things to do in amateur radio my likes are DXing
and Contesting. That doesn't mean I am going to knock SSTV guys or Satellite
guys or moon bounce guys. That is what they enjoy and more power to them.
