I'm in the process of building the W1 and have substituted the colored LED's
on the SWR readout as has been discussed.
I really haven't been following this thread closely and I haven't finished
the W1 build yet so this may have already been covered.

A while back someone mentioned that they substituted different colored LED
when they built the W1 watt meter, to make it easier to recognize the power
ranges. Someone else mentioned that the substituted LED's might not be as
bright as those supplied by Elecfraft (which are all red).

like the one Don, W3FPR talks about at: http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com/index.htm

Elecraft (only 30 bucks, so that's not too bad), does
Is the toroid guy still in business? I see him listed on the site but hear

Hi John and all,
For us more casual users of a charger does anyone know of site that might
have a schematic for a homebrew charger that accomplishes the same things as
is being discussed here?
The AA charger looks like it runs about $70, which is a fair price, but
basically I'm a

I have a Sounds Sweet speaker also...does a nice job although somewhat
large. I think I paid wither $99 or $110 a while back after it was reviewed
in QST. I see it is at $160 now..not worth that much $ though, IMHO.

If you can.
Please forgive me for jumping in without having fully followed this thread
so if this has been mentioned already, I apologize.
I have a visual zero beat indicator on my K2 which was supplied by Tom
N0SS. Works great uses the 10th LED of the S/RF meter to tell when a signal
if in the middle.
Hi Ron,
I absolutely agree with your comments and observations. If I might
respectfully add a third step might be to hear words. I think once we can
copy a qso in heads we are well on our way to increasing our copy speed.
A beginner would do well not to right down every letter. Common
This is really off topic...but here goes.
First of all please don't try to question our patriotism, if you aren't then
please accept my apology for that comment.
Secondly, IMHO the option of choosing between number one and number two just
couldn't happen (I realize you said what if---but we

That not a silly question at all, I think its a good one.
Is it Ella or Elly?
I'm a CW guy so I don't get to hear it on the air...but it seems that most
of the times I've heard in eyeball qso's its been Elly.
I have heard the origin of the name is indeed from Elegant and Craft as
