The K3 draws about 1 amp with one receiver, about an amp and one half with two
receivers. It draws about 20 amps transmitting 100 watts, 15 amps at 50 watts,
11 amps at 25 watts, and about 3.5 amps at 5 watts. It is very easy to set the
power that you want so you don't spend any more battery

I bought four keys at EBay auction two weeks ago, A
J37, a J38, a Navy Flameproof and a Russian Minature.
They ranged in price from $31 to $37 and I considered
them bargains. The last time I tried these keys were
going for $80 to $100 which I refused to pay, even for
collectibles, so I bought a
It seems that there is some disagreement as to whether
a beginner should start with a Straight Key or Paddles
and Keyer. I favor the Straight Key, but I can see
some merit to the Paddle position. If you are just
getting started with CW, by all means, don't let the
disagreement prevent you from

The ARRL has been using the Farnsworth Method for at
least 40 years and probably has been using it longer
than that. The US Army used the Farnsworth Method
during WWII. I have not been able to find out who old

I have used the Melamine coated board on bench tops in
the past. It is easy to clean and does not absorb
water or chemicals easily. It is a little more
expensive, but can last for years and looks quite
nice. I cut it to size and hold the corners in place
with small nails.

Frank, Ham Radio Delux has a code reader in its Beta
Version in its Digital Master 780 digital sub
program. It will copy hand sent Morse to a certain
extent, but I can not find a signal on 20 meters this
afternoon that it can copy as well as I can by ear.
The program does a good job with PSK-31

Julian suggests running a bar of ALC - I very
strongly disagree. Never, ever
run any ALC with PSK as it degrades the quality of

decoding more difficult.
With digital modes *always* aim for a 100% linear
signal.

I think you are correct if one is running FSK but most
people, at least a lot of people these days are
running AFSK, so need linear amps. One would just
about have to build a Class C amp these days anyway.
I don't know of any on the market.
