Welcome to the same issue I have had since last August.
If you hook up the radio to a powered PC or laptop USB jack, does the problem
go away? On K3S 10176 it does. Still setting PTT-KEY to anything but OFF-OFF
with USB disconnected should not light the TX front panel lamp or go full power
Set PTT-KEY in Config to OFF - dtr and you will be back in business.

Hi Bill,
Don't know about the K3S, but the K4 certainly is. I suggest some RTFM.
:) BTW -- as usual, I'll be with W6JTI and W6GJB running 1A Battery and
signing W6BX.

Our club has used N1MM for past field days with K3s using DTR RTS settings
in the radio and in N1MM to send CW.
I am trying this with my K3S with a laptop from Field Day, and get errors

Hi OM,
I would first disconnect anything connected to the
rear panel ACC connector - pin 8 may inhibit
the PWR_ON signal. If nothing is connected
to the ACC jack, I would try temporarily grounding
the end of R77 (the other end attaches to pin 4
of Q2), which is the /PWR_ON signal. If that
fails
My K3S (Serial No. 11048) is completely dead and pressing the power button has
no effect. FS1 and FS2 checked out OK. Removed KP3A to eliminate that as a
possible cause. Measured 13V on pins 1,2 & 3 of Q2 but nothing on pins 5 to 8.
Appreciate any guidance on this fault.

Dave,
I have been using my K3S in USB mode for FT8 for many years and never had a
problem.

I got my K4D a year ago so it has been a while since I worried about
such things.

A potential explanation: the LINE IN level may have defaulted to zero.
The LINE IN level is adjusted using the MIC gain control, but only when MIC
SEL is set to LINE. So, you need to set MIC SEL to LINE (which turns
MIC+LIN off), adjust the MIC gain control to give the desired non-zero LINE

Jim,
I have MIC+LIN set to off, I think so that the K3s doesn't pick up room noise
Jim,
I have MIC+LIN set to off, I think so that the K3s doesn't pick up room
noise when using data modes.
Also, the mic level control on the front panel affects the line in level
when you are in data a mode. In other modes, it is a mic level,
instead.
Hope that helps,

Hi Jerry,
First, a couple of questions:
-- does the abrupt loss of power occur if you operate
with the TX PWR set to less than 12 watts on
15 meters? This engages only the low power
driver amplifier and takes the 100 watt PA module
out of the picture.
