By 'full output' do you mean on transmit or receive or both?

When I plug in the PAE-Kx33 power supply to my KX3, I get a huge amount of
hash noise. It's supposed to be low-RFI Anybody with a similar problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Flyback is a buck-boost DC/DC converter where the inductor is split into a
transformer to allow a big voltage change (340v in to 12v out) and provide
galvanic isolation for safety.

Thank you all for the information. Will Wiki it too so I can look at a
schematic or two of how it happens.

David,
Insensitivity to input voltage is characteristic of a switching power
supply. The switcher input takes power from the AC line, rectifies it
and stores the energy in an inductor. Then the switching circuit takes
the inductor energy and dumps charge in a capacitor in its output to the

Just about every 'wallcube' switching power supply is auto input voltage

Astron switching supplies can handle 110 or 220 although some will have an
internal switch to make that happen. This is a great feature, but the
I also have one of these power supplies and am very happy with it. Can someone
please explain how it knows what voltage is input (120 v versus 240 v) to get
the same 12 volts output. Is there a different power cord? Am sure it needs
the correct wall plug adapter. Or is there just a 12 volt
Hi all,
I have one as well for my KX3, I've even taken it with me on holidays to the
Caribbean were voltage is 240 volts, still plug and play, works on 120 or 240
volts. Excellent product though in the shack I run the KX3 on battery/solar
power.

kn5l's question suggests another: How do you measure reliably audio rms
power? (Say for EME Sun noise.)
It turns out, the Windows program Daqarta work perfectly with either sound
card audio or USB audio. Go to "Options," then "measure..." , then "dB." I
believe the 30-day free trial, when
Ahh indeed. Several hours at W7RN with a new router trying random
things was less than productive. A more structured, several step effort
at home yielded the solution, which was primarily router pilot error.

What they are saying is that it is best to break things down into
logical clear steps, isolating as much as possible to prove or eliminate
cause and effect. The issue are that some folks don't know enough to do
this and some have issues trying to be logical; running in circles while

To answer Jim's earlier question, yes, it does appear that transmitting an

Yes, but that lack of methodical troubleshooting is the result of most

Sorry for the additional email, but this is particularly interesting: it
occurred to me that I'd never tried the reverse setup, so I put the KX3 in
