[Elecraft] OT question - shorted inductor turns - answer

2007-09-16 Thread Fraser Robertson
I had two personal replies, from K6DGW and GM4ESD, thanks guys. I think the crux is that these are air cored coils, so the coupling between turns and therefore the detrimental effect is lower. Unlike the case of say a mains transformer, where the core ensures tight coupling, so a shorted turn

Occasionally I get repeat entries on my in-box and they keep re-filling no matter how many times I delete them. I hadn't timed it to say it happens weekly, but that sounds about right. I went to do my email by webmail during those occasions and it did not re-fill from that source, but when

[Elecraft] OT question - shorted inductor turns

2007-09-16 Thread J F
Fraser, I don't claim to be an expert on the topic, but I think it has to do with the manner the coil is wound versus how a transformer is wound. The Topband reflector always seems to have periodic Q postings, you might try searching the archives http://lists.contesting.com/_topband/ and W8JI

Richard, Remove the socket and replace it. While attempting to repair one pin may work, it can lead to intermittent behavior. If you do not have good de-soldering tools, attempting to remove it intact can be difficult. Break the plastic case apart with diagonal cutters or whatever tool
