I worked for a few hours during the NAQP RTTY contest this weekend and ran
into a strange issue. On 15 and 20 I get full power out while running RTTY
on the K3. On 40 and 80 I am limited to about 20 watts.
I am running versions 2.02/1.77 of the firmware. I normally run in 'Data A'
mode but
John there is an apparent bug in some firmware (I am using 2.15/1.84
which suffers from it) where you cannot increase the power level while
transmitting in DATA A, could you have fallen foul of that? My K3 gives
up to 100 Watts on 80/40 on DATA A with a RTTY tone input to the line

I got in NAQP RTTY late for an hour or so last night. Only used 20, 40
80M and the power was 100 watts out the whole time - at least when I looked
at the wattmeter!
I did watch the PA Temp, after I heard the fans speed up, which made it into
the mid 40's C.
The only problem was the AF Gain
I have tested this interface to add a Keyboard for IC-756 pro line and is
working well.
I think that can be used for K3 too. This interface can be used to generate
CW or RTTY, on K3 can traslate CW to PSK31 too.
Schematic is minimal, also LCD can be removed, so only a programmed PIC (

How detrimental would it be if I broke up the power cable going to my K3
into two segments, joined by a two pair of Anderson power poles? Is
this sheer stupidity on my part? (It would be convenient for me to do
this, but not if it introduces more problems than it solves).
Thanks in advance for
If you used #10 wire .
Check out the July 2008 CQ magazine, page 74, the Beginners Corner column.
There is a very good write-up on page 79 on how to do this.
I suppose you could use #12 wire if your current requirements were lower on
each leg.

Of course, if you are driving a device that needs more audio than the
typical sound card, the range from 10 to 100 may be required - it all

If I understand your problem correctly, check to be certain the KX1 is

attempting to transmit well out of the band indicated on the dial, that
would explain your high SWR readings. A dummy load will indicate an

It seems to me the terms LINE and BUS always need more descriptors with them.
LINE OUT - is that audio, video, digital, analog?
BUS - 5 volts DC?, 250 volts DC, digital data?

I noticed this alsobut I found that is was an antenna issue...or more so a
coax issue. I changed out some coax and the issue went away for the most part,
but I notice that since I put in the last upgrade (2.02/1.77) things changed
for AFSK. I have to drive the K3 quite a bit harder than

Thank you all for the suggestions.
I still have the problem, but I have eliminated many of the variables. I
tested by transmitting to a dummy load. I am measuring full power out on 20
meters and above, but only about 20 watts out (18 as measured on my
wattmeter) on 30 meters and below.
Perhaps it's too esoteric, but it would be nice if there were a way to
disable the CW in SSB mode feature for 60m.

Personally I'd rather have the ability to do CW in SSB anywhere as it
turns out to be a good safety feature if ever need be. Granted cross

never know. Personally I feel that not disallowing TX outside of the

Isn't it ILLEGAL for any mode other than USB on 60? Other bands are legally
open to CW anywhere but I think NOT on 60. Somebody verify this.

Hello everyone,
I am building a K1, 2 band model, 40 and 15m. VFO and Receiver alignment went

dummy load. But no joy on Band 2. OUT is

In the UK anyone authorised with a notice of variation (NOV) to their

would speed up band selection for those without antennas for some bands,
