Matt,
You take the levels one at a time. Set the K3 Line Out to 9 or 10, then
adjust your soundcard Line in slider so you have good printing on the
screen.
Then out the K3 in TX TEST - set the soundcard Line out (or volume)
slider to about 2/3 of the scale, then adjust the K2 Line in gain to

I have the same question. I'm thinking of ordering a KX3, but wonder how much
is involved in building the kit?
There seems to be mucho info on the KX3 but hardly any on how the kit goes
together. Is it just a couple of boards? Are there discreet components?
Where can I find the info?
Thanks and
Last I heard (middle of last week?) they were still putting together the
kit assembly manual, and making minor modifications to the hardware. I am
sure there will be a reaction when the kit manual becomes available for
download, both here and on the KX3 group.
I too am quite curious about this, I
Joe,
The KX3 assembly manual is not out yet, and they are refining the
hardware assembly steps.
The kit has no discreet components - unless you can classify a speaker
assembly as a discreet component.
There are 2 main boards in the KX3 and each option is an additional board.

A few weeks ago there was talk of 4 conductor plugs for kx3 from mouser.

I install a good number of SMDs. I use much the same process as Ron D'Eau

Believe it or not, every once in awhile I get a break from firmware/

With a K3, the audio starts in digital form in the DSP.
Converting it to analog to convert it back to digital for input
to the computer can only introduce distortion.
I'm lobbying Elecraft for a direct digital interface. :-)

I just sold my K2 to a friend so that I would have space for the

in the attic that is really less than optimum, yet he's working all
sorts of DX with the reports you're getting from a net close by. Move on

should be very low. Certainly, the distortions of the RF signal due

Greetings list,
I recently added the W2 to monitor the power output at M0PCB on HF and
VHF with the K3 and amplifiers. For this it is great, I particularly
like the speed at which it reacts to the output power.
I am in the process of adding an external transverter so i can make use

Jim,
When you say it won't install, do you mean it doesn't connect to your K3 or it
won't complete the installation on you computer?
Either way, I'll bet the author can provide some guidance as well as others on

I am selling my KX1 SN 2520. The 4-band KX1 is a little more than 1 year old
and is in like new condition plus has been kept in my shack in a non smoking
environment. It operates as specified by Elecraft. No errors were made
during construction and it functioned properly during each test phase.
Thanks for the time information. I have my kit and was not sure if/when I
would install it. I have a relay box that externally powers the P3 directly
from my 13.8V power supply.

It could be part of a means (a box) to raise the soon to be seen KAT500 to

Ok, ok, so I never had a Collins S line, but it would look cool.

Steve,
This subject comes up from time to time, and the result (so far) has
always been the same - an Elecraft speaker must be priced much higher
than its value to the Elecraft principles. So until that bridge can be
mastered, you are not likely to see an Elecraft speaker.

If I remember correctly, the speaker is also very sensitive to distortion
of its metal frame (and therefore cone) if you tighten down the nuts too
much. You may have already tried this but try backing them off and
readjusting them so they're finger tight and no more. If things rattle,
tighten down
I picked up a pair of HP computer speakers that are black and look pretty nice
with the K3. They were $20 at Walmart for the pair. That is about the price
of shipping from Elecraft. It is pretty hard for Elecraft to compete with the
computer mass market.

Andrew,
That is true for the standard speaker, but with the KBT1, the speaker is
changed to a smaller one that has no mounting screws, it just sits with
its magnet settled into the hole in the battery bracket - it needs to
have a foam washer around its magnet to kee3p it from creating rattlie
How about a speaker cabinet with mounting holes such that a commonly

panel for the incoming and outgoing power leads? All it would take
would be a loose alliance with a power supply company like Samlex for
example.
A spreadsheet analysis may lead one to conclude that the project is
