It is common for antennas to be cut a little long, because it is easier to
remove wire than to add it. It looks like your antenna is resonant at or a
little below the end of each band, so you'll need to shorten it.
The instructions for your antenna explain how to do this. See the section take

I recently read here about an automated routine to do the sideband

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the software required? I

If you are primarily a CW op then you are not going to grt much better. If

Hello Ross,
I had the same problem, witch is partial solved.
On my s/n #6552 the problem start with some suddenly loss of power on 10

After some days, he fails completely the calibration.
The problem was one of the resistors on the LPA ( R-15, 2,7ohm 1/2 watt)

The automated procedure sounds convenient, but I think you can get an even
better result if you do it by hand.

I've done the mod and still need the RX SHIFT and the VFO NR ON on all bands 15
meters and up through 50 MHz.
I am in a rural location and have very low noise on all bands, I guess the pin
clipping cannot hurt.

It worked great for me. With the antenna disconnected, I could hear VFO
noise only on 6 meters before the mod. After the mod, all is totally quiet.

I just noticed yesterday that my receive on 20 and 17 is extremely low. For a
while I have been running JT65 so have not had the
sound on. My noise level locally here is quite high and usually around s5
without preamp. On all bands but 20 and 17 it is still s5
but it is s1-2 on those bands.
You didn't say which rig: KX3, K3, K2, etc.
If it's the KX3, you might check the preamp setting for 20 and 17m.
The gain value might be set differently from other bands, or you might
have it zeroed.

Sorry Fred, but I can't justify spending $60 just to have a clock (grin).

To respond to Scott's comment:
My experience is that the K3 with internal preamp (PRE on) is not
able to hear weak signals as well as the KX3 (with its preamp set to
30-dB gain). This is an accepted condition by Elecraft and they
responded by providing the PR6 and now expanded this to
Typical KX3 MDS with preamp on is about -138 to -140 dBm in a 500-Hz bandwidth,
on all bands.
If a KX3 is measuring -134 dBm MDS in this bandwidth, chances are there's a
measurement error, or the ATU has been left in-line at an impedance other than
that of the source RF generator, etc.

The real-time clock you want to keep alive is on the KXBC3 board.

A number of customers have now made this modification to their KX3 (thanks for

A few have found that it helped only on some bands, or not as much as expected.
