David is right on all counts, from my experience. Anybody with an
unheated workshop here in Maine knows the problem of a mild spell
causing water to condense on a tractor that has been sitting in a 10
degree F. barn. One answer is never to let your equipment get too cold,
hence a heater,

I had the very same set up for a couple years, which was easy and worked
fine with FT-8. When I was having trouble with WinLink, another ham
suggested a Signalink sound card would help, and he was right. I now
use the SignaLink with FT-8, with maybe better results, but it's hard to
tell.

Good observation, which I should have known. Only the KX3 decodes. The
KX3 Utility displays only part of what is on the KX3 text display and
must be losing something along the way. The PX3 seems to display what
is on the KX3 text display, but often adds a lot of characters. Has
anybody had

Setup is simple KX3, PX3 and Signalink.

I don't know if this is useful, but I have noticed that my KXPA100 with
ATU takes a few seconds to ramp up, or at least to light all the LED's
up to 100W. This happens only on the first transmit after sitting
awhile and I just assumed that it takes a few seconds for the coils,
etc. to warm
For FT8 on my KX-3 I didn't use a Signalink for years. When I was
having trouble with Winlink, a ham friend suggested I use a Signalink.
Didn't I need it?

I just installed the latest version of the KX3 Utility from Elecraft.
The only glitch was when Windows Defender tried to protect me from bad
people, but I knew Elecraft wasn't bad people, so overrode the warning.
All went well otherwise.
