Well, it didn't completely disappear, but is attenuated to the point that
atmospheric noise is far more of a problem than the p/s noise. On a very quiet
band, you'd still hear the p/s but any signals would be strong enough that even
a S2 signal would be readable over it. If the KX3's noise

Ordered a KPA500 to complete the K-Line station. There have been times when
even 100 watts was marginal on RTTY and I really like that mode. Never had an
amp that would stand up to the rigors of RTTY rag chewing

for the KPA500. It's now up and running. First QSO was on 20 meter RTTY, 500
watts out into my Cushcraft A3S which is nicely resonant on 20, 15 and 10 so
the KAT500 wasn't necessary. I also found that my fan dipole
160 meters was full of pileups this morning. I didn't get up early enough to
catch 3D2R on Rotuma at their sunset on 1823 but when I turned the rig on I had
left it tuned to 1815 KHz. T32C on Kirimitati (Christmas) Island was calling
CQ and listening UP 2. Hit the split macro, punched

The AUX cable is necessary if you want the K3 to set the proper drive level to
the KPA500 when you switch it to OPERATE and revert to 100 watts (or whatever
other power you had set) when you switch the KPA500 back to STANDBY or turn it
off. The RS-232 connection on the amp is used only for

Sure -- All you have to do is be in FSK-D mode, press hold the SPOT (pitch)

Flawless performance from 5 a.m. this morning right through 10 p.m. this
evening when I shut down for the night. The ATU tracked the K3's RX frequency
perfectly and all across the bands

As of shutdown, I had just shy of 250 QSO's search pounce only

Like Don said, not in receive, but in transmit, driving an Alpha 9500 to the
full 1500 out, a close neighbor (about 5 blocks away) was noticeable on my K3
within 5-10 KHz of his transmit frequency. That said, the FTdx5000 was MUCH
cleaner than the FT-1000MP he had prior to obtaining the 5000.
Check to see which antennas are enabled for that band via the utility. I have
3 antennas and have them set for auto select only on specific bands. If I try
to use my dipole (antenna 1, which WILL tune) on 15 meters by selecting the
antenna (it's not enabled on that band, only the tribander -
I just plug my bug into the key jack on the side and configure the jack as a
hand key in the menu. I've found that the electronic bug emulations in keyers
sound terrible on the air when I try to use them. I can at least generate
reasonably decent CW with my real bugs.

I have a decent DB Products 50 ohm, 50 watt dummy load that measures right at
50 ohms on 3 different meters. It has an N male connector which can easily
be adapted to whatever you need.
I have several Bird dummy load/wattmeter combinations and don't really need
this one.

sensitivity immensely on these frequencies. I tried listening for some

Right now 6 meters is marginally open between KS and the Southeast US.
(NC down to FL). First chance I've had to check out the Preamp 2
function on the new KX3VB. Boy what a difference it makes. Had it set

First, I just tried this (never used it before) and have the same
problem here under Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on an HP 6300 running
an Intel Core i5 quad core processor, 16 gig of ram. It came loaded
with the 32 bit version of Win7 Pro and I made the mistake of loading
all my programs
Don's right, a hub will not work. It is a very minimum implementation
of a USB port and not expandable due to hardware limitations in the way
they originally did things. My work around was to find a multi-port,
mechanical USB switch. That way all you have to do is switch to
whichever device

RFI noisy. In the same house with my KX3 the noise was over S9!

Any button will definitely stop it, but (and this includes the K3, K3S,
KX3 and possibly the KX2 as well) oft times you will get a partial (dot
or dash) sent even when pressing a button. Even when calling CQ looking
for a general QSO this can be annoying and confusing to both the sending
If there way, I never saw it -- but I just tested it. Left the KAT500
off, powered up the K3S and no errors. Then powered on the KAT500 and
it all worked just fine. Guess I'll have to look back through the
"release notes" on the KAT500 firmware releases to see which one fixed
it.

Quick follow-up. Shortly after my original post announcing the
availability of my dot stabilizers again, my ISP started having serious
problems handling all matters internet including my email. I was able
to receive a few inquiries and orders during their sporadic up time over
the last
K3S Kit build Serial# 10641 arrived Monday about 9:00 a.m. Started the
build around 10:30 and continued through yesterday with a few breaks.
The build was complete except for the P/A and Sub Receiver at about 9:45
last night. I completed the 5 watt power calibration, REF CAL and
receiver RF
