My reasons to grow trees is two or threefold: 1. avoid some natural forest be chopped down 2. avoid long distance transportation of wood from that natural forest 3. potentially earn some money if the lumber market is good enough at the moment that the trees need to be harvested. The last point is

The world needs less carbon. Trees are great but replacing carbon burning cars with clean EV's powered from solar is a far better use of land right now. The 12 solar panels needed to meet the average American daily 40 miles is equivalent to 100 fully mature trees. And if they produce 1000 EV's

While I agree with Gail that more trees would be preferable to more cars, more EV's is much more preferable to more ICE's. Face it, those trees are eventually going to be paved over in the name of "progress", is it more or less noble to be felled for a purpose that will result in less overall
