[EVDL] EVLN: Bajaj Auto.in to roll out EVs under Urbanite brand by 2020
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/bajaj-auto-working-urbanite-brand-emulate-teslas-success-two-wheeler-space-741895 Bajaj to roll out electric vehicles under Urbanite brand by 2020 15-09-2017 Ranjan R. Bhat [image / BikeWale http://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AArUgrP.img ] Bajaj is going to constitute a new brand called Urbanite for its electric vehicles. This niche brand will have both two-wheelers and three-wheelers in its portfolio, and the first product is expected to roll out by 2020. In a recent interview, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto revealed plans to enter electric vehicle market space with the aim of ‘doing a Tesla in the two-wheeler space.’ While there is no shortage of budget electric scooters in the Indian market, there aren’t any products in the premium market space. Bajaj might attempt to fill this void with its new Urbanite products. India may have been slow in embracing electric vehicles so far, but the government is serious about changing this. The government is currently in process of preparing policies, which should give incentives for manufacturers and buyers of electric vehicles. As of now, there are two interesting electric vehicles expected to be launched in India over the next year - the S340 smart scooter from Ather Energy, and the T6X motorcycle from Tork Motorcycles. Even TVS is expected to enter this segment with a new electric scooter, next year. [EVDL] EVLN: Self-confessed ‘EV nut’> gets more EVs& EVSE @MMU Manchester.uk
http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/fleet-management/electric-cars-and-hybrids/manchester-metropolitan-university-self-confessed-ev-nut-pushes-the-electric-agenda Manchester Metropolitan University: Self-confessed ‘EV nut’ pushes the electric agenda 21/09/2017 Andrew Ryan [image https://fncdn.blob.core.windows.net/web/1/root/jason-smith-manchester-met-ev-2_w555_h555.jpg (Jason w/ MMU's e-NV200 & Leaf EVs) ] Adding electric vehicles (EVs) to Manchester Metropolitan University’s fleet is not just part of Jason Smith’s job: it’s a passion. In his Twitter bio, the fleet assistant describes himself as an ‘electric vehicle nut’, and with good reason. “I think you have to be,” says the 33-year-old. “I think if you want to do (my job) like I do, you have to immerse yourself in it.” Smith has owned a Nissan Leaf for the past three years and his first-hand experience has made him an enthusiastic advocate of the technology. “I could have got a standard family car and no one would have thought anything about it, but an EV makes sense for me, for where I live, my journey to work, being able to charge it here,” he says. “It was a no-brainer to have one, and having one helps me educate people about them.” Jason Smith Manchester MET university fleet assistant This has been important in helping MMU further its green credentials, something it prizes highly. It is currently ranked the third greenest university in the country in the People and Planet University League. Its electric vehicle journey began in 2014 when it won funding from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) towards installing 24 charging points. “This was the catalyst for everything we’ve done,” says Smith. “It was the whole chicken and egg scenario. “We didn’t want to buy any electric cars until we had some infrastructure, and getting it helped to kick-start what we wanted to do here.” The university now has 36 charging points – including the only publically-accessible rapid charger in central Manchester. It has introduced a pool car fleet of five Leafs (two 24kwh and three 30kwh models) and replaced three diesel delivery vans with electric Nissan e-NV200s. MMU ... security team has also replaced its diesel vehicles with an e-NV200 and a Leaf. A number of under-utilised diesel vans have also been defleeted. Smith says the introduction of the pool car fleet has been one of the biggest successes. It has covered a combined 40,000 miles – saving around £15,000 in mileage payments – since it was launched in 2015. “We’d never had a pool car system before in any capacity,” he says. “We had a lot of people using their own vehicles for work-related journeys, but they were also renting vehicles from our nominated supplier and instead of taking them for a couple of hours, they may have been taking them for a week if they had placement visits, which was not cost effective at all. “All our placement visits and meetings tend to take place within the Greater Manchester area, and are very rarely outside a 30-mile radius, which makes them suitable for EVs.” One of the early challenges faced by Smith was the administration of the scheme: who would keep the keys, how could employees book the cars, how could he ensure they were put on charge at the end of their hire? The answers came from a supplier. “We were actually approached by Enterprise to see if we would like to be a pilot scheme for, effectively, what is its car club,” says Smith. “We had already made the capital purchase, but we pay Enterprise a monthly fee, it installs its telematics, gives us a portal on its website and we can book our vehicles through its car club booking system. “People can get into the cars with their membership card and start it with their PIN. “It gives drivers the flexibility of being able to take a car at 7am or return it at 11pm and not be concerned about where to leave the keys or if they’re secure because the Enterprise system looks after that.” Drivers are encouraged to plug their vehicles in at the end of their hire, but Enterprise monitors the cars so if the charge hasn’t been increasing over a certain amount of time, a member of staff is deployed to plug them in. Smith says around 160 employees have so far signed up to the pool car scheme, with 65% to 70% of those having used the vehicles. The average mileage of each hire is between 25 and 30. “I think we can put a lot of (the scheme’s success) down to us being quite personal in our approach. So, instead of leaving people to their own devices, we have done quite a lot of personal training,” he adds. “You can arrange a half-hour session with us where we talk you through the booking process right the way through to driving a Leaf. "We’ve found you can dispel rumours about electric cars if you actually sit people in the EV and allow them to drive it. “We can tell them that it’s ok to have the air-conditioning on. They don’t need to turn the radio off. Also, they don’t need to email us or go online to fin

Re: [EVDL] Level 2 chargers (EV animosity)
> A church I work with is building a new building, > and I'm encouraging them to put in a Level-2 charger... If power is available elsewhere, do not make these the best two spots which can create EV animosity in the short term. Better to have the two spaces in a highly visible location but far from the front door so people will see then every day, but not feel compelled to park their ICE there nor hate those that park their EV's there. Usually, though, the power is available closer to the building and so the best spots right up front become EV spots by default... but it is a fine balance between promoting EV adoption and ending up promoting EV animosity BUT if you have a choice for convenient power elsewhere in the parking lot, please consider putting the EV chargers in the best visibility location, but not the shortest walk. [EVDL] EVLN: 355 IKEA stores on 30 different markets switching2 EV transportation& infrastructure
http://nordic.businessinsider.com/ikea-just-unveiled-its-next-megaproject-electric-cars-2017-9/ IKEA just unveiled a massive bet on electric cars 20170921 Oliver Pechter From solar panel systems to wind power, Ikea wants to make itself known as sustainability champion. It's latest pet project could be its most audacious to date: electric vehicles. Ikea’s acting Head of Sustainability Pia Heidenmark-Cook revealed the Swedish furniture chain’s global bet on EV’s at an event at the New York Climate Week. In practice, it means that 355 Ikea stores on 30 different markets will switch entirely to electric car transportation and infrastructure. “The initiative concerns our own vehicles at the department stores and offices, but it also includes the partners who take care of our home deliveries. Moreover, we will install charging pods at all department stores to encourage both our employees and customers to switch to electric vehicles,” she told Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter (DN). Ikea hopes to boost sales for EV manufacturers and hence reduce the prices on electric vehicles. The relatively high prices of EV's are currently holding many potential buyers back, according to Pia Heidenmark-Cook. Ikea is part of a coalition of ten global corporates, called EV100, that announced its support for electric vehicles this week. Ikea is joined by companies including Unilever, DHL, HP, Baidu and Swedish energy company Vattenfall. "We want to make electric transport the normal," said Helen Clarkson, CEO for The Climate Group, the international nonprofit spearheading the effort. Ikea sees the initiative, which runs towards 2030, as a springboard for making further investments. “We are also looking at the possibility of investing in companies that promote the transition towards electric cars, or entering long-term partnership to show that this is important,” says Heidenmark-Cook to DN. [EVDL] EVLN: Leasing a $31.3k r:125mi 2017 e-Golf costs more than a r:248mi Bolt EV
http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1112688_2017-vw-e-golf-lease-can-cost-more-than-longer-range-chevy-bolt-ev 2017 VW e-Golf lease can cost more than longer-range Chevy Bolt EV Sep 19, 2017 John Voelcker [image https://images.hgmsites.net/med/2017-volkswagen-golf_100581488_m.jpg 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf ] Model years can be confusing: the 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf electric car just went on sale this month, at a time when some other makers have already rolled out 2018 models. The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, meanwhile, went on sale since last December; at some point this fall, we expect to get information on the 2018 version. Comparing the two 2017 compact electric hatchbacks shows significant differences in range and lease cost. Surprisingly, the top version of the electric car with the lower EPA-rated range (the 2017 VW e-Golf at 125 miles) costs more to lease at the moment than the longer-range 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV, rated at 238 miles. In sticker prices, the 2017 e-Golf is significantly less expensive, with the base SE trim level starting at $31,315 including delivery, against the $37,500 of the base 2017 Bolt EV. As CarsDirect explained on Friday, the first leases offered on the updated e-Golf with 125 miles of range come in at $279 per month. That's $120 more per month than the superseded 2016 e-Golf, with its 83 miles of range. It's also $129 higher than the 115-mile 2017 Ford Focus Electric, $59 more expensive than the 107-mile 2017 Nissan Leaf, and $108 more costly than the 84-mile Fiat 500e. Of those cars, only the Leaf is available throughout the U.S. The 500e is limited to California and Oregon, and the Focus Electric has a different sales footprint altogether. In more detail, factoring in the $2,349 due at signing on the basic $279 monthly e-Golf SE lease brings the effective monthly cost to $344 over a three-year lease that allows 10,000 miles a year. More surprising, though, is that the top-of-the-line 2017 VW e-Golf SEL model actually leases for more than a Chevy Bolt EV. The upcharge for a new electric Golf with all the bells and whistles, including active-safety features, is a substantial $120 a month, which brings the monthly lease cost to $399. Factoring in the down payment and other costs, the effective monthly lease payment for a 2017 e-Golf SEL is $464. The comparable effective lease price on a 2017 Bolt EV is $413, and it's $447 for a 2017 BMW i3 REx with its range-extending engine. In other words, if you want the anonymity of a perfectly standard VW Golf that happens to be the all-electric e-Golf version—versus the identifiable designs of the BMW i3 and Chevy Bolt EV—it'll cost you some extra cash every month. All lease costs factor the $7,500 federal income-tax credit for all the electric cars named into the overall cost. All of the electric cars in this article also qualify for California's $2,500 clean-vehicle rebate, though that program now carries income limits for eligibility. The lease prices on the 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf are valid throughout California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. [EVDL] Status of discombobulated evdl nabble archive : EVLN posts ...
This is another combo post of both the status of the messed up evdl nabble archive (which is why I am posting differently than before and filling up your intrays), as well as my TX trip attending the San Antonio (SA) NDEW. Recently, I sent another email to our evdl sys admin asking for a status, I have not heard back. Last email I got from our evdl sys-admin was he was busy with other things. The nabble archive is still messed up after a month, and my news posts will continue to clog your intrays. So, if you are not pleased that instead of only receiving one EVnews email a day, has now turned into several, then let our evdl sys-admin know. Currently, I just returned from a relocation-reconnoiter trip in Texas. I will be busy with tasks to that end for a while, but once completed, and if this evdl nabble archive snafu is not resolved, I will have to consider making other arrangements (you'll have to get my EVnews posts from somewhere else). Which seems a shame as we all had something going really well on the evdl, and now ... its discombobulated. My TX-trip adventure details would be OT for the evdl (no one wants to read them anyway), but open to corrections from our local Tesla driving Texan Willie, my experience has me not seeking Austin nor San Antonio (much too much growth and intensity like the Silicon Valley I am trying to get away from), but north of there where it is quieter (the sticks). It will be quite a change for me from the intense EV scene of Silicon Valley (after I had taken the I-35 exit, I knew I was in (Silicon Valley-esk) Austin when I saw my first 'Gunmetal Grey' Leaf, after not seeing an EV in TX for a whole week). Austin is fairly fat on public L3 EVSE, with a good dispersal of L2 all around. Where I was north of there & later in SA ... forget-about-it ... nil, zip public L3 EVSE. It was like stepping back into the EV scene Silicon Valley had back in the late 1990's (when enough public EVSE was just a mere twinkle in this EVangel's eye). I attended the 9/16 SA NDEW EVent, where the SA public had plenty of EV interest (they were quite hungry for more plugin information). I was having so much enjoyment helping out, I all but ignored 95+F heat & all the pain of being on my feet for several hours. Afterward, I took my spent/exhausted body back to my rental ice in the far away parking lot, and rested in its AC awhile (their NDEW was a valuable experience for me which I would do all again in a heart beat). Once I am relocated, I can foresee me planning the long drive south each year to attend SA's annual NDEW EVent. [EVDL] EVLN: My Tesla costs £20 to charge& has WiFi> EVs have benefit$ & snags, Haggle!
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-4890494/Is-really-time-buy-electric-car.html 'My Tesla costs £20 to charge and has wi-fi': With the Government set to end production of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040...is it time to go ELECTRIC now? 16 September 2017 Sally Hamilton [image http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/18/09/446E355D0578-4890494-image-a-1_1505723337779.jpg Saving: Businessman John Quinn is a proud owner of a £90,000 Tesla Model S video flash ] There are more than 355,000 electric cars on Britain’s roads. Whether pure electric, plug-in hybrid or a hybrid where electric takes just some of the load, they account for about 5 per cent of new vehicle sales. But these numbers are set to spiral as manufacturers power ahead with new models against the background of a Government commitment to end the production of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040. The revolution has been more than 100 years in the making – as long as the electric car’s nemesis, the internal combustion engine ... Businessman John Quinn is a proud owner of a Tesla Model S that takes him 285 miles on a single charge. The car does not come cheap – he paid about £90,000 – even with the Government’s £4,500 discount. John, 62, from Hampshire, has owned the car for six months and is already making savings. He says: ‘It costs me roughly £20 to fully charge compared to £100 to fill up my previous car, a Bentley convertible, for the same mileage.’ He adds: ‘With no road tax or congestion charge when I drive to London and free use of Tesla Superchargers at motorway services I am already seeing cost savings. 'I go to Swansea once a week, some 180 miles. I tend to stop for a coffee at the services on the way back, plug the car in and have enough charge to get me home. The cost of a round trip is about £20, compared with £140 in my Bentley.’ John says his insurance bill is about the same as for the Bentley. He says: ‘It’s green and it’s fast – doing nought to 60 in less than three seconds – and it comes with advanced technology such as free wi-fi. I love the idea of electric – we will all adopt it in time.’ In 1897, the London Electrical Cab company deployed a fleet of electric cars in the capital. These were powered by batteries with a 50-mile range between charges. But the firm struggled with technical issues and opposition from horse-drawn cabbies and closed down before the 19th Century was out. The motor industry renewed efforts to electrify as long ago as the 1960s. Sir Clive Sinclair tried to popularise the vehicles in the mid-1980s with his infamous C5. A big turning point came in 1997 with the launch of the Toyota Prius hybrid car in Japan. Since then most manufacturers have been investing in electric and hybrid options. HOW THIS IS MONEY CAN HELP Jaguar’s chief executive said recently: ‘One thing is clear, the future is electric’, as he announced that by 2020 the luxury car maker would produce only electric or hybrid cars. Volvo has made a similar pledge for 2019 while Tesla, the company that has made electric a desirable option even for some diehard petrolheads, will soon launch its more affordable Model 3 – at $35,000 (£26,400). Competition is increasing but there are snags as well as benefits. THE BENEFITS FINANCIAL INCENTIVES: Apart from the warm feeling of saving the planet and reducing health risks, green-minded motorists receive financial encouragement to buy. Government discounts help lighten the hefty purchase prices – cutting them by £4,500 for fully electric and £2,500 for certain hybrid plug-in models under £60,000. Some dealers also offer eye-catching finance deals and may throw in free charging. Owners can also apply for a grant of up to £500 on the purchase of a dedicated home charger, reducing the bill to between £200 and £300. LOW RUNNING COSTS: A charge of 100 miles costs between £2 and £4 in electricity. This compares to between £12 and £15 for petrol and diesel for the same distance, according to the Energy Saving Trust. Savings are greatest when charging overnight at home using a low-rate electricity tariff. Energy suppliers are courting this market. Ecotricity lets customers use its network of motorway chargers without paying the usual £3 connection charge. Ovo Energy allows customers access to the Polar Plus network free for 12 months (usually £7.85 a month). Good Energy has a cheaper home tariff for electric car owners. TAX SAVINGS: Purchase a pure electric car for less than £40,000 and there is no vehicle excise duty to pay. Owners of plug-in hybrids must pay £130 a year from the second year onwards. Electric cars and some hybrid models are also exempt from the £11.50 London congestion charge. Employees with low emission cars obtained through an employer’s salary sacrifice arrangement get tax and employer National Insurance advantages. They also pay a lower ‘benefit in kind’ tax on the perk. FREE OR DISCOUNTED PARKING PERMITS: These are offered by many local authori

Ever since Bentley revealed the gorgeous EXP 10 Speed 6 concept coupe and EXP 12 Speed 6e concept convertible, we have been begging the company to build a two-seat sports car. Unfortunately, the company had to make a choice whether to build a new EV sports car or a smaller crossover model to slot under the Bentayga. We were praying that Bentley would choose the sports car, and in an interview with Autocar, Bentley boss Wolfgang Durheimer said "a small SUV is no longer on the scheme. We’re favoring a car with a full electric powertrain.” This is confirmation that there won't be a smaller SUV under the Bentayga in the lineup. We didn't think that a smaller SUV would be capable of offering the luxury that customers want from a Bentley and we are glad that the carmaker agrees. The electric car that Bentley will develop will likely be based on the upcoming Porsche Mission E, so it will be bigger than the EXP12 Speed 6e concept. When talking about why the company chose an EV sports car, Durheimer said: “We intend to be the leader in electrification in the luxury segment. We see that it fits into the Bentley scheme – low rev torque with seamless acceleration.” This new sports car will be different from the concept cars that we loved, but it should be a very impressive model. Bentley is targeting a four-wheel drive powertrain with two motors and a 300-mile range. Bentley will also add hybrid technology to the Bentayga, Continental and Flying Spur, but this new EV sports car is the model we are most excited to see. Re: [EVDL] Solar powered RV
My little trailer has 800W on the roof and is grid tied while it's in the driveway. I went with this inverter due to the size of the array: https://amazon.com/gp/product/B00XJCVC44/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I got tired of unscrewing wires from the big terminal strips (12-32 screws, who did that??) so I could adjust for different amounts of sun when keeping the lead-acid batteries topped up. Now I have a bank of DPST switches from the auto parts store so each panel can go the the charge controller or to the grid tie inverter. I'd sure like to find a circuit to selectively switch the panels over based on battery voltage... In summertime a 50W panel will fill the batts each day after I heat my coffee in the microwave. That's a second inverter that just takes 12V and makes 120VAC for the microwave. Had to use my EV battery cable making skills for the 1 or 2 AWG wires feeding that! Stand alone the loads are the microwave and refrigerator (10A almost continuously), plus LED lights, radio and a few fans, one of which is in the refrigerator vent and another is in the roof vent. Both those fans will come on if it gets too hot and on hot days it took about 100W to keep the batts up. Still hit 100 degrees inside. Time for new screens...
