That worked...sorta. Now when I get to that point I get:

Multiple components cannot be assigned the requested action(s) because:
 - Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory
 - Failed to contact the Schema Master server for this Active Directory
forest.

The second part of the message did not show this time. That is good but
still getting the above.

Thanks for all the helpyou are so helpful!

Hi All.

I have a test Exchange environment that I am testing an in-place upgrade on.
On the Components Selection page, I click on Upgrade (only option available)
and I get the following error message:

Multiple components cannot be assigned the requested action(s) because:
 - Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory
 - Failed to contact the Schema Master server for this Active Directory
forest.

The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services"
cannot be assigned the action "Upgrade" because:
 - Setup has determined the display name of the Organization or one of the
Exchange Sites in your organization is greater than 64 characters or
contains at least on of the following invalid characters:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]&*()_+=;:./? (including a leading /trailing space). To correct this,
you must use the Exchange 5.x Administration tool to change the display name
of either the organization and/or the affected Sites and then re-run setup.

The name of my Exchange 5.5 Organization is MacombISD.org. I inherited this
server already built with the MacombISD.org Organization name. I believe it
is because of the "." in the Org name. Just wondering if anyone has run
into this and how complicated is it to fix?

Anyone ever seen this? Any tips.

Thanks

Samantha

What message server is sending that message? What happens when you send to

My first guess is a sending server that doesn't care too much for your relay

This just showed up:
Exception e0010004 has occurred with parameters -1601 and 0 (internal ID
20a00e0). Contact Microsoft Technical Support for assistance.

I was in deleting mailboxes today so that seems likely to have affected
things. More specifically there was an old administrator mailbox I
deleted
which used to be owner of "KM Server Mailbox" and for which I'm now
owner.
Or perhaps he was owner of something else? Or this may be unrelated!
How
can I find out?

Hi There

PSS = Microsoft product support and service. The calls are normally in
the neighborhood of 245.00 each. Trust me, they're worth every penny of
it.

Thanks

Thanks for the answer but I already run isinteg at least 10 times... At
couple of first times it did come up with some sort of errors but then
no errors were found. But error messages still appear.

What is PSS? Is there any way to find out from those error messages
which attachments in which e-mails it is talking about?

2002-01-10 Thread Neil Hobson

I guess that the messages appear when overnight maintenance runs. If
you're not having problems, and there's only this one message appearing,
then you could possibly leave it alone. On the other hand, if you're
running the enterprise version of e2k, why not create a new mailbox
store, move the users across, then whack the old store?

As Russell said in the other post, PSS is Microsoft's Product Support
Services. You can buy a one-off support incident with them if you're
concerned about this.

2002-01-10 Thread Neil Hobson

I've had the background cleanup thread error on one customer site
(Exchange 5.5) before. In that instance it was a question of running
isinteg until all errors were cleaned (which usually meant running it
several times). This could be the issue with your E2k box. But I'm not
going to suggest you run isinteg unless you know the consequences, etc.
You may like to get PSS involved.

Hi

Has anyone come across this problem of getting the following error
messages come up every morning:

Error 0xf9bf occurred during a background cleanup on attachment
1-1A20D on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Store".

I have repaired the database many times and cannot find out how to solve
it or why it appeared in the first place. I usually get 6 of these
messages with different attachment numbers.

Thanks.

RE: Error message

2001-12-20 Thread Blunt, James H (Jim)

Gosh...that was a STUPID answer...wish I could take that one back. I was
going more off of Martin's reply, than the actual NDR...my bad.

What version of Exchange are you running? Try the following "Q" articles,
based on version:

XADM: NDR When Sending to Recipient From Offline Address Book (Q188979)

XADM: Message NDR after Applying 5.5 Service Pack 1 or 5.0 post-Service Pack
2 hotfix to Store.exe (Q192349)

XCLN: Routing Restrictions Require SMTP Authentication (Q197869)

XCLN: You Cannot Use the Exchange Server and Internet E-mail Services in the
Same Profile (Q245446)
(The reverse situation applies to this article as well...does the person
sending the e-mail have ANY transport provider specified at all in their
Outlook profile? They wouldn't get to their inbox on the server, but if
they had their mail profile set to deliver all mail to their .pst file and
later deleted the Exchange Server transport from the profile, they would
still see mail in their inbox but not be able to send.

RE: Error message

2001-12-20 Thread Blunt, James H (Jim)

If this is a nested DL, then the mailbox/Public Folder that is sending to
this DL must have permissions to send to all the sub-DL's as well.

For example: Say you have 5 companies that subcontract to your company.
You want to allow certain organizations within your company (i.e., HR,
Benefits, Payroll, Building Manager, etc.) to send e-mail to everyone in the
system or send e-mail to specific subcontractors, based on need. Therefore
you would have something like this:

DL-Master
 DL-Company1
 DL-Company2
 DL-Company3
 DL-Company4
 DL-Company5

On the "Delivery Restrictions" tab of DL-Master, you would add every
person/Group mailbox that's allowed to send to the DL. You also need to add
the same people to the "Delivery Restrictions" tab of the sub-DL's.

That's what sounds like you're getting...someone has permission to the
master list, but not the sub-list.

RE: Error message

2001-12-20 Thread Farquharson, Andrea

It's a distribution housing other distribution lists in the users Contacts
folder. I thought only the dl's you created in Exchange Admin would have
an
email address. I sent a test message to the same list. I got one
undeliverable for several users' names, but everybody else in the list
appeared to have received the message. I had Delivery receipts and Read
receipts enabled.

NO, only the 'bad' address wouldn't get delivered. If you post the NDR, it
would help.

No it wouldn't. The sender would get an NDR for that bad email address only.
The rest would get delivered.

But post the NDR.

Try SMTP Protocol logs. They're better imho.

They are text files placed in exchsrvr\imcdata\log

We have a program called Interlinx that uses smtp. It has an error in it's

I can telnet from the Interlinx box to port 25 on the exchange box and it
works fine.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this error??

RE: Error Message Help

2001-10-31 Thread Tom Meunier

Cool toy. Factoid is that it takes HFNETCHK switches, so you can check
all your servers from one screen, just insert the parameter -r
[ipaddress]-[ipaddress] and it'll do a whole IP range and report it on
one screen. Thanks for this; I'll be playing with it as an Excel
replacement!

RE: Error message when sending attachments

2001-09-27 Thread Monteleone-Haught Matt - Millville

Is she cut and pasting from one message to another, as outlined in
[Q249744]? I have a boss that insists on doing this and then gets upset
when he gets that same error message. He's untrainable, as for your user,
instead of RTF can she use Plain text?

I have a user who gets the error message "internal application error"
when
she sends a message with an attachment. I had her save her reply to
draft
(or save the reply data to a new mail message), close the program and
retry and it worked thereafter. Now the problem has resurfaced.

Any suggestions for a solution?

Thank you!
