like that. In Alligator, the swing seems to be stronger than that, eh?

I know that it isn't worth appealing to this person's sense of decency and

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: The divine feminine in a Christian society

From: s3raph...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife] FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com

What you say about the Langudedoc is suggestive. I'm aware of the attempts to
link the Cathars with the rise of the troubadours and involvement of Eleanor
and her daughter with the development of the courtly love tradition. But the
fact that the graft didn't *take* suggests that Christianity is at heart a
patriarchal set-up. Trying to feminise it ends up emasculating it and it loses
its power. It's as silly as trying to masculinise a cult of Isis - you'd just
end up with a butch and unappealing goddess. (Yes, I'm aware of Durga and Kali
and of Minerva and other female goddesses that kick butt but it's the
nurturing-mother goddess archetype we need.)

Ahem. Don't you mean that *I* need? How is pigeonholing the image of women as
nurturing mother-goddess archetypes instead of kick-asses any less
chauvinistic than what Christianity does?

The most kick-ass woman I know has multiple high-degree black belts in the
martial arts, and is the loving, nurturing mother of two. No conflict
whatsoever. I would suggest that considering her (or any woman's -- live or
mythical) kick-ass side as butch and unappealing sounds more like your
problem than hers. Just sayin'...

Why try to make
Christianity more feminine? It is surely a lost cause
- even women priests don't have the nerve to call
themselves priestesses which is an honourable name and

Christian faith with a goddess cult with its own
rituals? Astarte on Fridays and Christ on Sundays makes
one a whole human being.

There is the Languedocian legend of the 'Queen of the South', (Reine
du Midi), the title of the countess of Toulosue, the protectrix,
identified with the Syrian goddess Anath who in turn is closely
linked with Isis and the bird-footed Lilith. Yet another legend is
the Meridiana to whom was conveyed the secrets of alchemy to Gerbert
d'Auriliac. The name Meridiana is derieved from 'Mary-Diana' thus
linking the Magdalene legends in the South of France.

Lagudedoc was also home to the Knights Templers in Europe. It's
interesting that Bernard of Clairvaux, the founder of the Templers
Rule, was devoted to the Magdalene and to the Black Madonna. Bernard
commended the knights to the 'obedience of Bethany', the castle of
Mary and Martha. Bernard is also noted as the founder of the Blessed
Virgin Mary at Notre Dame (Our Lady), i.e., Magdalene.

The Templers oath was to 'God and Our Lady', not to the Virgin, but
to the Magdalene. The Templers were preoccupied with the idea of the
feminine mystery!

Olivia Robertson (who died last November) was
high priestess of the Fellowship of Isis, a spiritual
organisation devoted to promoting awareness of the
feminine aspect of the divine. This trailer is for a
documentary (which
I've seen and recommend) on her life.

The ensuing Finnish concentration of artillery fire was the heaviest in the
country's military history.[27]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tali-Ihantala#cite_note-Jatkosota-27 It
was based on the famed fire correction method of Finnish Artillery General
Vilho Petter Nenonen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vilho_Petter_Nenonen, which
enabled easy fire correction and quick changes of targets.[5]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tali-Ihantala#cite_note-Koskimaa-5 At
the critical Ihantala sector of the battle, the Finnish defenders managed to
concentrate their fire to the extent of smashing the advancing Soviet
spearhead.[27]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tali-Ihantala#cite_note-Jatkosota-27 The
clever fire control system enabled as many as 21 batteries, totaling some 250
guns, to fire at the same target simultaneously in the battle; the fire
controller did not need to be aware of the location of individual batteries to
guide their fire, which made quick fire concentration and target switching
possible. This concentration was considered a world record at the time.Battle

Heard something watching the France24 channel last night - the statement being
that ISIS, wanting to establish a true Islamic state, is not interested in
taking all of Iraq, content instead to consolidate their current gains. Makes
sense - the country was designed by the Brits to always be tearing itself
apart, anyway, and ISIS doesn't want the burden of holding all the tribes
together.

I agree somewhat with your assessment about the Syrian rebels. The USA should

Independent of Obama's decision, it's definitely to Assad's advantage to get
rid of ISIS now while they're busy attacking Iraq. He could and should attack
the supply route in Syria for the ISIS militants in Iraq. Once ISIS is gone,
IMO Assad could retain his power.

Indirectly, the Iraq government would gain as well. But I don't believe
Maliki is competent to run the Iraqi government. In fact, he is the most
likely reason why the Sunnis and the Kurds don't want to cooperate with the
present Iraqi government.

However, I believe the Kurds will attack ISIS eventually from the north for
their own preservation. If they let ISIS take over Iraq, the Kurds will
eventually be a target for subjugation by an Islamist caliphate if the
militants are in control.

Stoyanov thinks that the one single local Langudocian notion in
Catharism was the theology of the belief that Mary Magdalene was the
concubine of Jesus - knowledge that was reserved for the inner circle of
Cathars: The teaching of Mary Magdalene as the wife or concubine of
Christ appears moreover, an original Cathar tradition which does'n not
have any counterpart in Bogomil doctrines.

There is the Languedocian legend of the 'Queen of the South',
(Reine du Midi), the title of the countess of Toulosue, the
protectrix, identified with the Syrian goddess Anath who in turn
is closely linked with Isis and the bird-footed Lilith. Yet
another legend is the Meridiana to whom was conveyed the secrets
of alchemy to Gerbert d'Auriliac. The name Meridiana is derieved
from 'Mary-Diana' thus linking the Magdalene legends in the South
of France.

Lagudedoc was also home to the Knights Templers in Europe. It's
interesting that Bernard of Clairvaux, the founder of the Templers
Rule, was devoted to the Magdalene and to the Black Madonna.
Bernard commended the knights to the 'obedience of Bethany', the
castle of Mary and Martha. Bernard is also noted as the founder of
the Blessed Virgin Mary at Notre Dame (Our Lady), i.e., Magdalene.

The Templers oath was to 'God and Our Lady', not to the Virgin,
but to the Magdalene. The Templers were preoccupied with the idea
of the feminine mystery!

Olivia Robertson (who died last November) was high priestess of
the Fellowship of Isis, a spiritual organisation devoted to
promoting awareness of the feminine aspect of the divine. This
trailer is for a documentary (which I've seen and recommend) on
her life.

2014-06-28 Thread TurquoiseBee turquoi...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Shortly after posting this, I ran across this link, which expresses my thoughts
in a different (and very entertaining) way. It's not that I have anything
against the image of nurturing mother-goddesses; it's just that I reserve the
right to revere more kick-ass goddesses (and princesses) as well. Or a
combination of the two, because the two traits are, after all, not mutually
exclusive.

Re the Cathars, they *are* one of the only religions in Western history who
treated women well. There were equal numbers of men and women Cathar priests
(and they used the same word for both, even in the old Provençal language,
where it was gender-free). The 13th century in the south of what is now France
was a rare island of gender equality in Europe. Women could own property in
their own names in that area at that time, a basic right that didn't happen in
the rest of France until De Gaulle. As you suggest, there definitely *was* a
Cathar influence on the Troubadours, but it might not have been as romantic as
you might think, because the Cathars were a dour lot who didn't believe much in
earthly love and pleasure. The Troubadours probably picked up more of their
notions of earthly romantic love from North Africa and the Muslim culture than
they did the Cathars. The latter, however, might account for the
unrequited-love-at-a-distance meme in Troubadour
 poetry.

As for Isis, I still prefer this vision of her:

The latter, however, might account for the
unrequited-love-at-a-distance meme in Troubadour poetry.

As for Isis, I still prefer this vision of her:

What you say about the Langudedoc is suggestive. I'm aware of the attempts
to link the Cathars with the rise of the troubadours and involvement of Eleanor
and her daughter with the development of the courtly love tradition. But the
fact that the graft didn't *take* suggests that Christianity is at heart a

The early Gnostic Gospels have no hesitation describing the relationship
between Mary Magdalene and Jesus. It's unlikely that the Lagudedoc
townsfolk would have access to the Gnostic Gospel, so how do we account
for the presence of Magdalene legends at Beziers, Maxim, and Provencal?
It must have been a powerful legend to cause the entire Catholic
Inquisition to be formulated just to root them out. Catharism was
apparently the State religion of Languedoc. Herein lies a secret - what
is the secret knowledge of the Magdalene? Baphomet?

The Templers oath was to 'God and Our Lady', not to the Virgin,

of the feminine mystery!

Thanks for the Isis link. It's one of my fave Dylan songs and curiously isn't

As you suggest, there definitely *was* a
Cathar influence on the Troubadours, but it might not have been as romantic as
you might think, because the Cathars were a dour lot who
didn't believe much in earthly love and pleasure. The Troubadours probably
picked up more of their notions of earthly romantic love from North Africa and
the Muslim culture than they did the Cathars. The latter, however, might
account for the unrequited-love-at-a-distance meme in Troubadour poetry.

As for Isis, I still prefer this vision of her:

But why you clutter FFL either makes you look unstable or you need to
reset your Twitter account password as you apparently lost it. I'm
sure you have a lot of followers on your Twitter account.

Being a great-grandfather and having a family spread out over four
states is a challenge for communications, but I've found that one single
message to a group is a lot easier than replying to individual email
messages or phone calls. It does help a lot if the kids follow us on
Twitter and Facebook - we also use YouTube and Skype to keep in touch.

As time passes, people and friends tend to get spread out all over the
world and we and our relatives are scattered far and wide. Families
sometimes grow up not knowing each other, and brothers, sisters, moms
and dads are separated by state lines and time zones. When this happens,
it's important that we all make an effort to stay in touch and affirm
what it is that makes our friendship so special.

Of course FFL often reads like the OCD ward of Fairfield State
Hospital for the Insane. :-D

Re: [FairfieldLife] Strange Bedfellows in the Middle East

2014-06-28 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Fleetwood,

You've got to remember that ISIS is more radical than al-Qaeda. They're
spreading chaos now in Lebanon as we speak.

However, there are some people who believe that the Sunnis are just using ISIS
as a marriage partner of convenience for the sake of taking control over Iraq
as Saddam did in the past. Once the Sunnis are in control, they will throw out
ISIS from power.

The Kurds would be foolish to be satisfied with just controlling the oil
fields in Kirkuk. ISIS is vulnerable now since they're busy attacking Baghdad.
If they attack ISIS from the north, I believe ISIS will disintegrate and flee
into the wilderness.

Similarly, Assad would be wise to attack ISIS from the west for his own
survival. So, IMO the militants have put themselves into a corner of
destruction and defeat. The virulence of ISIS will eventually bring about its
own death just as cancer cells are attacked by antibodies in the human
physiology.

The USA should
not aid them since they could be allied with ISIS in the long run. But Obama
may be using a CIA assessment about the dynamics in Syria which we are not
privy to.

As soon as you access the internet data highway with your computer,
security is out of the question. The most secure computer is a computer
without any contact to the outside world - no network, no internet, no
disks, no flash drives, no CD-DVD drives, and no direct contact to other
computers by modem or network card. In addition a really secure computer
will be password protected. The most common passwords are: password, sex
and god, but not in that particular order.

reveals details about their personal life: who they are, where they
work, where they go, who they visit, and their surfing habits. Some
people don't even realize that their computer media player tracks all
tunes played and sends that information for analysis. It's all there,
housed as digital information at a data center somewhere.

cafes in Netherlands, but on FFL there are no posting limits
anymore. Barry just seems to be JELLOS.

We've all probably said everything we can think of that's important

they act in their daily life. Apparently nobody out there has a
digital camera - or how to upload a flat file - maybe it's that they
don't do very much in a day. Of all the discussion groups I read on
the internet and participate in, Yahoo! FFL sucks as far as sharing
information. It's amazing how just a half-dozen informants have kept
it going for all these years! But, it's almost to the point of being
a juvenile chat room in the last few months. Where is Judy when we
need her? Go figure.

/Thanks to all who have shared their thoughts here./ It's been a slice.

Other discusson groups of interest on Google Groups:

alt.zen
alt.meditation
alt.meditation.transcendental
alt.casteneda.dreams
alt.buddha.short.fat.guy

You haven't posted in quite a while on

Apparently you don't read any Tibetan, but you can't read a single
word of Arabic. Go figure.

Why would I bother? I'm not interested in Tibetan Buddhism. I do know
some Sanskrit and some Hindi. The latter was for more travel in India
especially into jungle communities where they might not know English
very well. The latter half of your first sentence makes no sense.

But why you clutter FFL either makes you look unstable or you need to
reset your Twitter account password as you apparently lost it. I'm
sure you have a lot of followers on your Twitter account.

Being a great-grandfather and having a family spread out over four
states is a challenge for communications, but I've found that one
single message to a group is a lot easier than replying to individual
email messages or phone calls. It does help a lot if the kids follow
us on Twitter and Facebook - we also use YouTube and Skype to keep in
touch.

Your grandkids read FFL? Man, they really must think you're a nutcase!

As time passes, people and friends tend to get spread out all over the
world and we and our relatives are scattered far and wide. Families
sometimes grow up not knowing each other, and brothers, sisters, moms
and dads are separated by state lines and time zones. When this
happens, it's important that we all make an effort to stay in touch
and affirm what it is that makes our friendship so special.

You've got your own website, why bother with groups?

Of course FFL often reads like the OCD ward of Fairfield State
Hospital for the Insane. :-D

I know that it isn't worth appealing to this person's sense of
