LOL. Rick's his usual smartass self, but he does
make a good case in the last sentence:

At thirty bucks a day the guru's billions could
fund a virtual wave of yogic flyers to cover
the earth, but something tells me that if Maharishi
had to personally pay for his peace plan the guru's
spiritual air force would be grounded.

If, as was suggested here, the price is low
because he's so concerned, why isn't he concerned
enough to offer the course for free, and in fact
compensate the people who have to leave their jobs
to participate?

I guess he isn't *that* concerned...

To have the guru, any guru, pay for the course would be contrary to
the natural order of things. The course is specifically for the
seeker. To gain reward from the course, the seeker must pay
something. It is just the way it is, and non-specific to TM or MMY
or any other valid method of spiritual instruction.

There's also the old thing about how paying for something makes it more

they offered it for free, instead of at cost, they'ed run the risk of people
looking for a paid

No, per the present plan, they'll be eating for 30
bucks a day and sleeping on someone's sofa. All
while giving up their paychecks from work for two
months. :-)

But here's a riddle for you. I remember in the past
that you've been a big proponent of the the TMO
can't spend its capital because it needs it for the
future. So explain this to me -- Maharishi's doing
the Big Fear Trip again, implying that if people
don't flock to this course, at their expense (albeit
less expensive than some courses in the past), Dire
Things are going to happen to the world. Did I get
that right?

Ok, so here's the quandary: if the times are so
tough that there may not *BE* a future, what is
the purpose of all those billions the TMO has
stashed away?

Seems to me that if *HE* believed the stuff he's
saying, he'd have made some of that money available
to make the room and board of this course free, and
in fact offer to make up for at least a portion of
the participants' salary. Do the math -- if we're
talking a total of 3000 siddhas, at a cost of $30
a day for food, add in another $70 a day for housing,
and compensate each of them who has to leave a job
(say 60%, because many may be married and unworking
or retired or well-to-do), say, %3000 a month for
lost salary, that comes to a grand total of
$1,380,000.

One could make the case for that being a drop in the
bucket compared to the billions that the TMO is
reputed to have as assets. One could also make the
case that this drop in the bucket might be worth
spending if the situation is as dire as he implies,
and the very future of the planet is at stake.

Or one could make the people who have been paying
for such emergency courses for decades do so again.

Oh, what's a person who really cares about world
peace to do?

Don't be ridiculous; this is the TM movement.
The first time anyone skipped a butt-bouncing

Other than that, with reference to what I said above with regards to

Really has nothing to do with Maharishi, other than he teaches a

2006-07-21 Thread Ingegerd
The World and the TM-Teachers and the Sidhas has been so generous
to MMY through all the years - made it available to collect 5-6
billions Dollars. MMY has said over and over again that if you give
something - you will get a good Karma. I think it would be wise of
MMY to give a gift to the TM-Teachers and Sidhas, let the course be
free and pay whatever they loose in work salary - it might give him
a good Karma - I think he will need it.

spiritual instruction, meaning that if practiced as instructed,
the practitioner will gain Self-Realization quickly.

I would agree with what you say, except for the last
word. I would substitute, 'eventually.' Then again,
in the Buddhist view, *everyone* will gain Self-
Realization eventually, whether they meditate or not. :-)

Other than that, with reference to what I said above with regards to

You need to get out more. There are a great number
of organizations that teach for free, or with their

of others. You've confused what you've been told

You beat me to these points! I was writing my own version when I saw
that you had already nailed it. I would add that he might use the
money he has already collected from his own people for projects that

At thirty bucks a day the guru's billions could fund a virtual

me that if Maharishi had to personally pay for his peace plan
the guru's spiritual air force would be grounded.

Oh yeah, there's a cogent comment. Does he think they'll be
eating and sleeping at the local county jail?

Regarding payment, there is a natural 'give and take' that is
strongly emphasized in any valid spiritual dynamic between a teacher

is really an energy thing.

I just get the persistent feeling that there is enough to sustain

Don't be ridiculous; this is the TM movement.
The first time anyone skipped a butt-bouncing
session, the Mind Police would report them
and they'd be on their way back home in an
   instant.

I went on a Kashmir TM course in '81 or '82 for one month.

I flew with the group ONCE. After determining for my own
health's
sake that to fly on the flee-infested used mattresses that the
TMO
had bought and brought to the course would make me sick, I never
  went to group flying again.

My buddies and I spent the month sight-seeing, golfing (at the
highest altitude course in the world, or so it was claimed),
eating
junk food at the local Srinegar stalls,
  and hiking.

LOL. You, like me, are obviously immune to the
seeing of the TM Mind Police. It's a Jedi
thang: These are not the siddhas you're looking
 for. :-)

Either that, or it's a trait you learned in St.
Moritz on our siddhis course. When Alex mentioned
the other day that he didn't fly until after a
long period of celibacy I felt a twinge of guilt,
because the night before we received the siddhis
instruction I was down in town getting laid. And
then I flew the first day. Go figure. :-)

I'm fascinated as to how you got away from the course: did you just
up and leave? Did you walk down or take that weird looking tram
beside the hotel that went down the mountain?

Did anyone miss you?

I think I went to town once during the whole 6 months...and then
that was just at the end when we were coming down...

I walked down, and back up again before dawn. They
never really locked the doors of the hotel. Plus, I
had a buddy who, like me, had had it up to here
with the restrictions, so when we were on walk and
talk, occasionally we'd walk in a different direction
from the other guys, into town.

 Did anyone miss you?

Not once. These are not the siddhas you're looking for.

I think I went to town once during the whole 6 months...and then
that was just at the end when we were coming down...

It was actually a nice town. That was my last TM
course, and I think I knew it before I ever arrived.
I had been to so many beautiful places with the TM
movement and sat in hotel rooms the whole time that
I'd sworn to myself that this time I wasn't going
to go to one of the most beautiful towns in Switz-
erland and not see it.

I still made almost all of the meetings and all,
no matter how excruciatingly boring it was to sit
around and hear guys read the Vedas over and over
and over and over and over and over and over and
over and over...sorry, I was just having a flash-
back to the repetitiveness of it all. :-)

It's just that by that time, and after a few
run-ins with the Bliss Nazis on previous courses,
I knew I wasn't going to submit to them again.
