Do the math -- if we're talking a total of 3000 siddhas, at a cost of $30 a day for food, add in another $70 a day for housing, and compensate each of them who has to leave a job (say 60%, because many may be married and unworking or retired or well-to-do), say, %3000 a month for lost salary, that comes to a grand total of $1,380,000. One could make the case for that being a drop in the bucket compared to the billions that the TMO is reputed to have as assets. One could also make the case that this drop in the bucket might be worth spending if the situation is as dire as he implies, and the very future of the planet is at stake. The World and the TM-Teachers and the Sidhas has been so generous to MMY through all the years - made it available to collect 5-6 billions Dollars. MMY has said over and over again that if you give something - you will get a good Karma. I think it would be wise of MMY to give a gift to the TM-Teachers and Sidhas, let the course be free and pay whatever they loose in work salary - it might give him a good Karma - I think he will need it. So explain this to me -- Maharishi's doing the Big Fear Trip again, implying that if people don't flock to this course, at their expense (albeit less expensive than some courses in the past), Dire Things are going to happen to the world. Did I get that right? Ok, so here's the quandary: if the times are so tough that there may not *BE* a future, what is the purpose of all those billions the TMO has stashed away? Seems to me that if *HE* believed the stuff he's saying, he'd have made some of that money available to make the room and board of this course free, and in fact offer to make up for at least a portion of the participants' salary. Or one could make the people who have been paying for such emergency courses for decades do so again. Oh, what's a person who really cares about world peace to do? Yahoo! I've had to cancel because some conflicting appointments have come up (damn! the French bureaucracy!), but the cost for the whole course -- room, board, yoga classes each morning and several satsang sessions a day, conducted by the teacher herself (read, not on videotape or via a video feed) -- came to 270 Euros ($342, at today's exchange rate). That's $48.85 a day, for a private room (as opposed to sleeping on someone's sofa). Why is it so cheap? Because the teacher in question wants it that way, and isn't making a profit... So, for $18 a day more, you get a private room. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Something is new at Yahoo! Groups. I would agree with what you say, except for the last word. I would substitute, 'eventually.' Then again, in the Buddhist view, *everyone* will gain Self- Realization eventually, whether they meditate or not. :-) I share the Buddhist view, that's why I said 'quickly'. Other than that, with reference to what I said above with regards to payment, I was speaking about all such methods of valid spiritual instruction, TM or non-TM. You need to get out more. There are a great number of organizations that teach for free, or with their own teachers or members paying for the instruction of others. You've confused what you've been told about all spiritual traditions by Maharishi with reality. I haven't been told anything that I recall by Maharishi about this. I don't keep any of his stuff in my head, though I do read the Gita and listen to an audio tape occasionally. Come to think of it, there is almost nothing I keep in my head... Regarding payment, there is a natural 'give and take' that is strongly emphasized in any valid spiritual dynamic between a teacher and seekers. Although it is sometimes expressed as a money thing, it is really an energy thing. Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Something is new at Yahoo! Groups. Did you walk down or take that weird looking tram beside the hotel that went down the mountain? I walked down, and back up again before dawn. They never really locked the doors of the hotel. Plus, I had a buddy who, like me, had had it up to here with the restrictions, so when we were on walk and talk, occasionally we'd walk in a different direction from the other guys, into town. Did anyone miss you? Not once. These are not the siddhas you're looking for. I think I went to town once during the whole 6 months...and then that was just at the end when we were coming down... It was actually a nice town. That was my last TM course, and I think I knew it before I ever arrived. I had been to so many beautiful places with the TM movement and sat in hotel rooms the whole time that I'd sworn to myself that this time I wasn't going to go to one of the most beautiful towns in Switz- erland and not see it. I still made almost all of the meetings and all, no matter how excruciatingly boring it was to sit around and hear guys read the Vedas over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...sorry, I was just having a flash- back to the repetitiveness of it all. :-) It's just that by that time, and after a few run-ins with the Bliss Nazis on previous courses, I knew I wasn't going to submit to them again. You have outdone yourself! Thanks.
