[Felvtalk] Felv Booster

2011-12-06 Thread Melody Estevez
Hello Everyone.I'm new here and this question is about the Felv vaccine.  My cat was tested for feline leukemia and tested negative. On October 16, 2011 she received her Felv#1 vaccine and was due for her booster (Felv#2) three weeks later.  Due to financial circumstances I was unable to

Hi Melody! Welcome to the forum. I'm no expert but I do know that if you don't get the second shot, then your cat is not fully protected, if at all. You will have to start over (as if your kitty never received the first shot) when you are able to get her back to the vet. I sympathize with

I agree - if you keep the cat strictly inside, you wouldn't even have to use the vaccine.you also must understand that even if you got the required booster, any vaccine is only about 80% effective. From: felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org [mailto:felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org] On Behalf

When she says bloodwork I wonder what she means. You can take blood and send it to a lab where they perform the same type of ELISA test as done in the vet's office, but they do it differently at the lab (my vet called it a well test). They have to take a bigger blood sample for that. It's

Kat, Ellen should have waited longer than two days to have them tested again. Waiting 90 days to retest is usually what is suggested to be more accurate. I hope they really are all negative :0) Lynda - Original Message - From: Kat Parker To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org

It is possible the SNAP tests were positive an IFA was negative because the virus had not progressed to the bone marrow. I also wonder if the SNAP tests that were positive were done on the new 3way tests. Our shelter stopped using them because they were not dependable. Kat Parker
