Currently, no effective treatment for FeLV infection exists. These researchers investigated the usefulness of an anti-retroviral drug called raltegrevir that was developed for treatment of HIV in humans. The researchers tested the drug in a laboratory setting for potential toxicity to feline cells, as well as the ability to inhibit the replication of FeLV in these cells. It was found that, at least in cell culture, this drug inhibited virus replication and did not cause toxic changes to the feline cells. The researchers speculate that this drug could be used to reduce virus replication in FeLV-infected cats to the point that their own immune system could eliminate the virus, effectively curing the infection. Many more studies are needed, but this research offers a promising first step. The Rabiies vac is definitely a state thing, Then ultimately County by county. Makes no sense does it? If it was really about protection then ALL counties should require it. Rabid animals don't care about crossing a county line!! As far as vets giving core vaccines once a year, in my opinion it is irresponsible. They know better. I just did some reading on rabies and it appears that mice and other rodents don't carry Rabies. Raccoons foxes and bats look to be the heaviest carriers. The East coast, for some reason is the largest region of raccoons carrying rabies! Sorry, in my haste to write, I made a mistake: I meant VIRGINIA! And moma fox has a den just 30 feet from my deck plus raccoons come up to eat left over seed birds leave. Also possums and everything else around hre. Only one that doesnot come real close to the house is my mountain lion, he stays the distance from 1 utility pole to the next one. Got to talk to the boy about that. Would be easier on my babies and cheaper. He knows I bring them in at the first hint of a problem so he would not have to worry about them never being seen. He said once that if everyone took te care I do of my babies, there woul b o sick cats and dogs around. Sounds like the mayor of silex. They moved the town up on the hill because it kept geting flooded. The had written rules about what you could and could not do, like no one could have more than 1 dog and no one could have a fenced area with dog houses. Dogs have to be kept in house and walked on a leash. 1 man has 4 dogs and 4 pens for them at the back of his house and they are on somene else's land. And the list of stupid laws keeps changing every day. Sure glad I live on a buff about 2 miles out of town, don't have to put up with that nonsense. i ALSO DON'T HAVE HOUSES 30' FROM MY HOUSE. cATS AND i HAVE 25 ACRES TO ROAM.
