Re: Tad lost his Sammy

2005-06-07 Thread catatonya
Tad,

I'm sorry you've suffered another loss so soon. Someone on the list said once that they believed we have more losses in the spring and fall and I believe that seems to be true. I don't remember what the reason was, but she said that in the spring and in the fall the window to 'the other side' or to heaven or to whatever you believe was more open or accessible for some reason. I know we've had a lot of losses recently. I hope summer is better for everyone.

Hi

I have two cats that I loved that passed away, Charmed was Felv+
then tested negative after 1 1/2 yrs then 6week later discovered he
had cancer and died. Both were very special in different ways and
both left me with a sadden heart that I still cry about often.

He was very smart I would like to know if he really understood and
was he happy the time he spend with us even though he was
seperated from his siblings. . It's 4 yrs almost and I still miss him. I
had to make a choice when he had a heartattack not to try and
bring him back and it hurt a lot not too. Was he ok with that?

Bamama was like my little watch dog. If my boyfriend yelled at me
she would fluff up and protect me. She became anemic when her
spleen was removed and with full flown aides as it was it was too
much to battle. Even in the end as I cried to pts she dragged her
body (she had a seizure the night before) to me to comfort me on
last time. It's been almost 3 yrs for her.

Is she ok and does she forgive me for the mistakes I made and my
paients was running a little low when she didn't want to eat and I
would get annoyed with her.

Can you tell me anything about either one and how they feel or
anything about them now that they have passed?

2005-06-07 Thread Kathleen A. Berard
Hi, Carla. I'm sorry to hear of your losses, I know what it's like to
lose a beloved pet. Please see this page on my website
www.katberard.com/com_lossandgrief.com to help you with your grief. They
do not want you to continue grieving and stay stuck in that energy.
Allow it to move through and then let it go. Staying stuck in grief is
not good for you; there is a process to move through, but the point is
to move through it and let it go.

I know that's easier said than done, but animals are geared for living
in the moment and enjoying love and joy and compassion. Continued
grieving when they are in a good state in the spirit world does nothing
for them, or for you. The best gift you can give your departed friends
is the joyful heart, one that honors and appreciates their spirits and
their memories. And moving forward through life with an open and
grateful heart for the time you shared together. I am not in any way
minimizing the sadness you feel; but staying stuck is not good for you
(or anyone). I speak from experience.

Please consider getting the two books I mentioned in a previous post:
Animals and the Afterlife, by Kim Sheridan; and Blessing the Bridge:
Death, Dying and Beyond. I think you'll find these extremely helpful.

I would be happy to talk with your cats in private sessions, but it
would be unfair to others for me to get personal messages for you in
this forum. Please feel free to contact me privately [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What Happened to the Cat in Catholic?

(June 7, 2005) Newly elected Pope Benedict XVI's well-known love of stray
cats apparently is not shared by the Dominican Nuns of the Corpus Christi
Monastery in the Bronx, New York. The Mother Superior has ordered the
removal of seven feral cats who are almost all neutered, rabies vaccinated
and have lived on the monastery's five acres for the past 8 years. In a
decision backed by the Archdiocese of NY, the plan is to first try to force
the cats to leave by withholding all food and starving them. Then if they
don't go on their own, the resident Sisters will trap them and hand them
over to the city. Shelter workers would be forced to euthanize the cats
because they are feral and unadoptable and have nowhere else to be placed.

The Vicar of the Religious Office for the Archdiocese, Sister Helen C.,
stated, my compassion does not extend to these animals and they will be
removed eventually, one way or another.

The plan is not only cruel for depriving these cats of their long-time
home and causing their suffering and likely deaths, it is ineffective feral
cat population control, said Bryan Kortis, Executive Director of
Neighborhood Cats, a leading feral cat organization and a member of the
Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Maintaining neutered feral colonies,
using a method known as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), is the only proven way to
reduce feral numbers in the long term. Otherwise, new unneutered cats will
simply replace the ones removed and the cycle of suffering and killing will
go on indefinitely.

Over the past eight years, at their own expense, volunteers have removed
nine cats from the grounds of the monastery and placed them in homes. The
cats too wild to be adopted were neutered and returned, stopping their
reproduction, and were then fed by the nuns. Now, however, the nuns and the
Archdiocese refuse to even meet with animal advocates to discuss the
situation.

To protest this heartless and ill-guided assault on the cats, please
contact the Corpus Christi Monastery and the Archdiocese of NY by phone,
email or fax (see below.) Let them know we expect more from our religious
leaders than pointless cruelty towards innocent animals:

Could someone please explain to me why feral cats that have lived on the

is it that they have lived in harmony with the Dominican Nuns for the

What is it that they are doing, besides controlling the vermin
population and enriching the compound with their beauty and grace that
leads you to take these measures? Why is it that you are refusing the
help of animal activists to resolve this issue in a humane manner? I've
always had questions about practices in the Catholic Church, but this is

...is something sorely lacking in
this world, and spiritual leaders are not expected to join the ranks of the
cruel and indifferent.
Re the headline "Bronx Nuns Seek
Extermination of 8 Year Old Cat Colony", I am absolutely incredulous that
someone who holds the position of "Vicar of the Religious Office for the
Archdiocese" can state "my compassion does not extend to these animals" and
"they will be
removed eventually, one way or
another."
For "these animals" have harmed no one,
and are utterly innocent and defenceless. Unlike humans--unlike Helen C.--no
animal is capable of premeditated cruelty.
Helen C. is a disgrace to the community
of Sisters and all spiritual leaders, and should be removed from her post. If
she was once compassionate, the power has surely corrupted her, and she has
totally lost sight of the sort of human being she is supposed to be.

I've just forwarded to all our fosters, board members and FuRR Yahoo group asking them to write. We had a similar situation here just about this time last year - an Episcopal minister was poisoning feral cats around his church. One reason he gave for not wanting cats arounfd (he never admitted poisoning but there were witnesses) was that the fleas bothered his congregation. I expect if there was a flea problem it was more likely to come from the homeless shelter in the basement of the church.Cherie A Gabbert [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

animals that need us, are drawn to us, I guess Muffie is a prime
example. The fact that she's not symptomatic after all the stress she's

I'm only supposed to have ONE animal in my condo...my dog. I've hidden my cats...well now cat, since Quintapus diedits gonna be hard to hide another dog...assuming he gets along with my catGod help me!

You are right, it does seem
that many of us are magnets for the hardcases, but its important to remember two things: 1) You are NEVER given more than you can handle. The Universe, God, karmawhichever you ascribe to...never piles more on you that you are spiritually, emotionally or pshycally capable of handling. (Although I do wish that at times, perhaps, the powers that be would have just a bit less faith in me particularly) ;-). 2) Many times...its NOT about us. How often have we asked (the Powers that be) to use us for the greater good? Often we are called upon to intervene for *_/someone else's sake/_*...and any lessons we learn, while never wasted, were perhaps not the reason for the intervention, but products of the shared experience. There is ALWAYS payment for a good deed. Sometimes its strengthsometimes courage -learned by witnessing the way another battles
an illness or fear...almost always there's loveand eventually (sometimes not for years later) peace. Then...with these new pieces of armour we've aquired...we often feel more confident, less hesitant to "step out in front of the dragon" ...sometimes even before we are called to...at times, this is where we get into trouble..get in over our heads and things seem to get away from us. Just remember, that once you decide to act on your own, another spirit will ALWAYS be there to stand with you if you remember to call on it. Why are we "called" to it? Most likely because in one form or another in our lives we've been there ourselves (or are afraid of one day being there alone) and can empathize. Hang in there, tides ebb and flow...you'll get a break eventually. Peace, T
Kat, Could you comment on why it might be that some of us seem to draw animals, and people too for that matter, with serious illness to our lives. I guess I should back up first and ask you if you feel everything happens for a reason! I do believe that everything happens for a reason, some things are life-changing events and others seemingly inconsequential. The last year, or so, I have found my life more and more consumed with sick and injured animals. One wise friend reminded me that I take in strays and other unfortunates that haven't had the benefit of a good start, and of course that's true. But it feels like there's more to it than that. I have started to work on my problems with acceptance, (I have been known to be somewhat of a control
freak where my fur kids are concerned), and it does seem like the waters are calming. I pray all the time for guidance in recognizing what my lessons are and how to learn them without any more suffering than necessary, but I wonder why it should be that some seem to be touched with disease and death more than others. If this is an inappropriate question for this forum, just say so. We've been hit with a lot of loss lately and we're still reeling. I do tend to wax philosophical with very little provocation, so I'll understand if you choose not to answer this one. THE POPE THE HOMELESS CATS: John Paul II had a dream By: J.R. Hyland The first time I read the account of Pope John Paul II's dream, the thing that surprised me most was the fact that it was included in the book GOD'S BROKER. Published in 1984, the book was the result of two hundred hours of conversation with the Pope. These interviews began soon after the author, Anton Gronowicz, was introduced to the Pope in 1979, and continued for two years, in the Pontiff's apartment at the Vatican An American citizen of Polish descent, Gronowicz was the longtime friend of many highly-place churchmen. And in the prologue to his book, he explains how he was able to circumvent Vatican bureaucracy. "Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski, Primate of Poland, introduced me to the Pope, acquainted me with Vatican circles and convinced the Holy Father that he should bypass the Vatican department of State and grant me private interviews." Subtitled "The Life of John Paul II as
told in His Own Words" the subject matter of the book ranges from reminiscences of the time when the Pope was known as Karol Wojtyla, a young man living under the Nazi occupation of Poland, to his reflections on social justice issues, theology and church doctrine. And in the midst of these human-centered concerns, the author devotes four pages to a dream the Pope related to him, about a homeless cat. This surprising interpolation might lead to the conclusion that the author understood the significance of the dream: that he was sensitive to the plight of God's other creatures and the way they are abused. But the comments he makes as the Pontiff relates his dream, indicate he had little understanding of the implications of what he was being told. But from the way in which this dream preserved its vigor and immediacy, so many years later, it is obvious that it was very important to John Paul; and he fully understood its implications. In his dream, John Paul follows a
homeless mother cat who was trying to find food and shelter for herself and her kittens. She is turned away by those who lack nothing, themselves, and by men who represent the various faces of established Christianity. The dream took place in 1969 the night before the Pope, known then as Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, was to visit New York City for the first time. It was late summer and he had been touring Canada. He spoke of the beauty of its fields and forests and how he had wished for more time to walk in woods vibrant with color and with his "ears filled with the songs and voices of animals." In the midst of this discussion of Canada, the Pope abruptly changed the subject and said: "The night before my departure from Canada to New York, which I had never seen, I had a strange dream." But his dream was not of beautiful forests, warm with the summer sun. It was of a crowded city, frigid with the cold of a northern winter. And although he had never been there, his dream
captured the way Manhattan looks and feels, after a major snow storm. "It was a terribly severe winter in New York, the city was completely covered with snow. Inhabitants were well-off and warmly dressed, and walking slowly along roads because cars, due to mountains of snow, could not be operated. I was happy that I could walk on top of the snow on avenues of white. "All my physical effort was spent on walking. To this day, pictures of huge apartment houses on both sides of the avenue are instilled in my mind, and the doormen quickly closing and opening entrance doors as though trying to prevent humanity and warmth from escaping. "On top of the snow, I noticed a brown cat emerge from a side street and walk on the snow. I looked closer, and to my surprise, saw that this big cat was being followed by six small brown-and- white kittens, all of them following the big brown cat in a perfect line. The mother cat looked back from time to time to see if her babies
were there, but her main concern was to reach the entrance door. I presumed she was trying to find warmth for herself and her children, but as soon as she reached the door, a man in a well-pressed uniform, jumped at her with a broom and chased them away. I followed this procession and prepared to deliver a speech to the doorman. I opened my mouth and tried to complain, 'Where is your proverbial American generosity? Where is your American good heart and fair play? Let them in. Let them in!! "I tried to speak, but the words would not come out. Maybe I was afraid of the doorman with the broom. I started searching my cassock pockets for a piece of bread, found some crumbs and put them on my palms, calling: 'Kitty, kitty, kitty.' But the words would not come from my supposedly intelligent mouth. Instead, the wind blew the crumbs from my palm and I said, 'what can I do? I can't speak to the cats. I can't speak to the doorman. But there are many hungry birds. They might pick up the
crumbs.' "Again, I walked after the cats, now with a pain in my chest, feeling tremendous cold. On the left I saw a

To talk with animals, get prepared as I
described in another email (Animal Communication) pick a quiet
time, light a candle, then sit down and write out or type out your questions
and what comes back. Be patient with yourself and the process, it does take
some practice but I have no doubt you can talk with her. Writing or typing it
puts you into a receptive mode, where you get out of that left
brain thinking and just learn to flow with the energy coming to you and
that you send out. I believe it also lets the animal know that you are serious
and committed to understanding them better by taking the time to write or type
it out. I think youll be surprised at the information you receive, that
you DO receive information. Its just like talking with a person; you can
write out the questions and receive messages in your mind, or you can ask her

She weighs 4#. She looked a lot heavier with the fur. I will try the ramps, it seems strange having to reach down to the floor to pet her. She will let me pick her up and hold her as long as I am standing, but when I sit she will jump out of my lap.

Welcome to the group. I communicate with my
cats fine on my own. Maybe that's not normal, and I'm special too. From reading
your website, possibly the reason why I can't announce myself as a
real pet physic is because I have too much mind
clutter. I never have been able to meditate or clear my mind,
probably because of my ADD. I continue to play the lottery in hopes that some
day I, too, can be free of working a normal full time job, though not ever even
having been fortunate enough to have been part of corporate america
and even having the luxury of a nice air conditioned office job, like you did
(I work long hot days in a pizza shop in 100 degree misery). I have worked with
animals in the past, and think I would rather work in a job I hate rather than
have to be exposed to the humans who own the animals I could be
working with, and the other humans who I am forced to work with around the
animals who do not necessarily have the animals best interests at heart (it's
bad enough working with other humans when some animal's happiness is not
involved). I worked for a vet once, as an assistant, and she really turned me
off, she was in it only for the money, and did not even tell people all the
options that existed for their pets (no wheelchairs for disabled pets, no
treatments for FELV or FIV, no alternatives to declaws). If I had the power to
help animals, I don't think I could rightfully rationalize only helping those
who's human's could afford to pay for my help, and basing my help on how much
money I could make, rather than the animal's best interests (and it's really
sad that so many people in the pet care industry do this!). So that's why I
don't make my living working with animals, though I really feelthat
working with animalsis my calling, because society forces us to live a
life that requires money, and I can't condone making money off of any animals
in any way. Anyways, it's nice that you don't have my moral confines, and have
found a way to help animals and make money and not feel guilty about it. Sounds
like, from your website, you've become something of a celebrity in the pet
psychic circles, with all your clinics and such, I just hope you can stay true
to yourself in the long run. Reminds me of the horse guy, Pat Parelli, he
started out with a new way of working with horses, and now's he's a big star,
makes a ton of money doing his thing. John Lyons is probably worse
than him, having created a whole lines of gadgets that you have to
buy to use his program. I just don't understand why people can't be
happy with helping others freely. We live in a very sad society, I guess I just
don't fit in, thankfully! Anyways, back to the hello, and off my soapbox! I
have four cats, and one new rescue who will be one of my cats from now on.
Doobie, the fat lovable cat, who I bottle raised. His momma was a foster cat of
mine, and I kept him from her litter. He's my baby, and is very happy and lacks
for nothing really (he never asks for much anyways). Miranda, the bitchy,
unhappy, and always paranoid cat,who hates everyone and everything,
except every so often when we are both alone, she comes to me and we agree on
things and she gets some loving. I got her at a very unstable time in my
life, and herproblems are all feeding off of my own issues and her
unstable upbringing (she wishes I would get more therapy). Then there's Tigger,
I got him from a dairy farm to replace Moogie, my FELV+ kitty who died. He
knows he's my support mechanism, and he always gives me lots of love and
understanding, and is always there for me to talk to (he reminds me how
unimportant the little things are, and reminds me to take it easy, like he
does). That leaves Mythic, a stray I took in a few winters ago, when is was -30
outside. He just kinda lives here. He's jealous of the others because I have
not formed the bonds with him that I have with the rest, so he's always seeking
attention, and I'm always turning him away. Sometimes he gets fed up with it,
and tries to run out the door, because this stresses me out, and he wants to remind
me that I do care about him, and that I should pay him more attention. Then
there is my new rescue, Bones. She has a broken back. She is here to save me
from myself. My chance at redemption for all my past mistakes, which I'd rather
not

To quote MC, hee hee hee. I have a good feeling about Tobbie's
special needs diminishing when he's adjusted to living in a home with
great care and less stress being directed at him. It must have been
hellish living with an old lady with diminishing faculties. I placed
this wonderful older Tuxedo cat, (with my understanding sister, God
bless her), that had been trying his damnedest to take care of an
elderly mom with dementia. You should see the way he's begun to
thrive! He looks 5 years younger and he's so happy! Have a talk with
Coebeio, before you bring Tobbie home. Get her on board with helping to
care for him. I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for everyone
concerned.

Oh, and I know the 'eyes averted' thing doesn't work. I can't bring

Stronghold is the European/Australian label for
Revolution in the USA. It is made by the drug company Pfizer. Revolution and
Stronghold are the EXACT same drug, just labeled and approved for different
countries. You need to IMMEDIATELY wash your cat, ASAP! The drug continues to
seep into the blood stream for 3 days after being applied! This COULD be an
adverse reaction!

Here is the website for Revolution, and the PDF
file of all the indications of the drug:
http://www.revolution4cats.com
http://www.revolution4cats.com/docs/pdf/FullInfill.pdf

SAFETY

REVOLUTION has been tested safe in over 100 different
pure and mixed breeds of healthy dogs and over 15 different pure and mixed
breeds of healthy cats, including pregnant and lactating females, breeding males
and females, puppies six weeks of age and older, kittens eight weeks of age and
older, and avermectin-sensitive collies. A kitten, estimated to be 56
weeks old (0.3 kg), died 8 12 hours after receiving a single treatment of
REVOLUTION at the recommended dosage. The kitten displayed clinical signs which
included muscle spasms, salivation and neurological signs. The kitten was a
stray with an unknown history and was malnourished and underweight (see
PRECAUTIONS).
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Pre-approval clinical trials.
Following treatment with REVOLUTION, transient localized
alopecia with or without inflammation at or near the site of application was
observed in approximately 1% of 691 treated cats. Other signs observed rarely
(0.5% of 1743 treated cats and dogs) included vomiting, loose stool or diarrhea
with or without blood, anorexia, lethargy, salivation, tachypnea, and muscle
tremors.Post-approval experienceIn addition to the aforementioned clinical signs
that were reported in pre-approval clinical trials, there have been reports of
pruritis, urticaria, erythema, ataxia, fever, and rare reports of death. There
have also been rare reports of seizures in dogs (see
WARNINGS).
Here is the only info online for the actual brand
Stronghold:
http://www.emea.eu.int/vetdocs/PDFs/EPAR/stronghold/V-050-PI-EN.pdf
Instructions specifically state:
Do not use in cats that are suffering from
concomitant
disease, or are debilitated and underweight (for size and
age).disease, or are
debilitated and underweight.

I called the USA representative for the company, and she said that you need
to contact your vet right away, and report it as a possible adverse reaction,
and also you should call the Pfizer company located in your country and report
it as well.
For USA call: 1-800-366-5288
For Australia call: 1-800-814-883 or 1-800-335-374
For Canada call: 1-877-633-2001 or 1-800-461-0917
(if you are not in any of these, tell me where you are, and I can GET the
correct info for you!)

Here are the pages to get to the correct websites for all other countries:
http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/are/mn_about_all.jsp#worldwide
http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/do/mn_animal.jsp#worldwide

You also need to report this adverse reaction to these authorities, if your
vet does deem it an adverse reaction:

  The USDA's online form: https://web01.aphis.usda.gov/CVB/adverseeventreport.nsf/Adverse%20Event%20Report%20Form?OpenForm

  USDA Center for
  Veterinary Biologics1-800-752-6255

  The FDA: To report an
adverse reaction to a non-vaccine medicine, you can reach the FDA by calling
the center for Veterinary Medicine at:1-800-FDA-VETS. Or to obtain a form,
  write to:

  ADE Reporting System
  Center for Veterinary
  Medicine
  U.S. Food Drug
  Administration
  7500 Standish
  Place
  Rockville, MD
  20855-2773
I have a
strong suspicion that this is related to the flea treatment. Please call your
vet, and wash the cat right away!

Here are some example questions that I offer to clients, although they are welcome to ask anything they like as well as give me messages to relay to the animal.

1) What did you like most about your life?
2) What did you like least?
3) What was your life’s purpose?
4) What would you like to tell me?
5) What frustrated you?
6) What can I learn from you?
7) How did you feel about the other animals/people in our home?
8) Have we had a past life together, or been together before in this lifetime?
9) What were you teaching me in our time together?
10) What can you tell me to help me deal with my sadness at losing your physical presence?
11) What can I do to make life better for the animals that are still with me?

To talk with animals, get prepared as I described in another email (“Animal Communication”) pick a quiet time, light a candle, then sit down and write out or type out your questions and what comes back. Be patient with yourself and the process, it does take some practice but I have no doubt you can talk with her. Writing or typing it puts you into a receptive mode, where you get out of that “left brain” thinking and just learn to flow with the energy coming to you and that you send out. I believe it also lets the animal know that you are serious and committed to understanding them better by taking the time to write or type it out. I think you’ll be surprised at the information you receive, that you DO receive information. It’s just like talking with a person; you can write out the questions and receive messages in your mind, or you can ask her out loud and receive the
messages, whatever feels most comfortable to you.

Words of Wisdom from Dogs and Hamsters

2005-06-07 Thread Kathleen A. Berard

Dawn
Baumann Brunke,
Author of Animal Voices and Awakening to Animal Voices wrote an interesting
article entitled Awakening to Animal Voices: Animal Guides and
Teachers which was published by www.soulfulliving.com The
article contains excerpts from Dawns new book, Awakening to Animal Voices, and can be
found at http://www.soulfuliving.com/awakening_to_animals.htm
Excerpts from sessions I did with my Weimaraners Max and Barney, and two dwarf
hamsters named Emily and Princess, were included in Awakening to Animal Voices. Here are a few of their
messages. The question asked of Max and Barney was what did they want humanity
to know about their species/about them:

Max: My world is one of quiet contemplation,
and moments of great joy. I am not here to prove anything or to be the
best at something. I Am Who I Am, and that means that whatever I
do or exhibit or feel and share with my beloveds is the core essence of me.
Honesty, Courage, Honor, those are important to me. That is what I am about. I
am also Love, big Love. And I am exactly where I am supposed to be, with
you and with those you share your home and your life with. I assist you at
times with your work, and that is something we have done before (in other
lifetimes). This time I have helped you open to your abilities by working with
divine, cosmic energy and bringing that into our home. My life is a good place
to be.

Barney: We are here to bring your
[humanitys] heart out to help you feel what you [humanity] know
deep inside to be true that you are worthy of the love that you show to
us. We show it back to you; look in our eyes, you see it there. We do not lie.
What you see is what you get. Sometimes you do not look closely, you are too
afraid. You do not want to see yourself, to give acceptance and love and
graciousness and compassion to yourself. We hold it for you to see and
that is the truth. Be true to your spirit, your self, your way of being. Do not
walk as another does. Walk as you are meant to walk. Be who you are. You are
here at this moment, in this lifetime, to accomplish great things.

The question posed to
Emily and Princess was what do you want young people to know?

Emily
and Princess:

(Emily) The world is evolving
quickly, much more quickly than many know. This is a good thing, and long
overdue, but also in its time. Humanity is having to make quicker choices
about self, about happiness, about prosperity, about peace at home and within
and in distant places, all at the same time. It is a confusing time, and a
wondrous time because you are in the midst of a dramatic evolutional
stage. Be part of the evolution, choose to take the next step forward and
up, look for what brings you peace and joy, and then look for how you can serve

great planet! We are all here for one reason soul growth.
We all have choices, and each choice we make sets into play a chain of
events. We will not see the end of the chain, or perhaps even past the
second link, but know that your actions and thoughts and words matter. Know
that you are important to this world, to its evolution, and your contribution
of self, of your unique self, your talents and skills and personal touch, are
needed and very, very important. Do not underrate yourself in any way. If you
find yourself in such a place, climb right back out and keep going. The
world needs you, and you need the world (yes, even those of you who think you

choice you make, for those who choose to make it. We say, if you find yourself
there, please come back to us. We the collective We of humanity and
non-human beings need you. Truly.

2005-06-07 Thread Kathleen A. Berard
Here's a post I made to another list that you might find interesting.

I have had a few cases of animals living past lives as humans; I'm sure
I'd have had more by now except most clients don't ask me to explore
that question with their animal friend.

Penelope Smith, in When Animals Speak, says Most domesticated animals
that I have communicated with have had experience in other lives as
humans. They are comfortable with human thinking and human problems.
They enjoy helping people through their often complex and emotionally
turbulent lives. They often easily accept being a cat or horse, even
though they haven't inhabited those forms before. In previous lives as
humans, they usually loved those animals, understood them, and
identified with them, or they are very conscious of their choice of
species and quick to learn how to enjoy life as that animal. Some
animals who have been humans before tend to act like, even demand, the
privileges of human living.

Animals who have had no human experience, or have never been a
domesticated animal, can be fearful of humans and find it hard to tune
into often confusing or chaotic human thinking. Some animals may just
want to hide out for a while and be feral, while they maintain a
minimal or safe contact with humans. They have made some decision to
learn from the path of being close to humans, but it may take them
awhile to respond to humans as something besides predators or alien
beings. By respecting their choices and understanding their situation,
we can greatly assist fearful animals to progress in the direction of
amiable coexistence. Experiencing and mastering another way of life is
usually the main purpose for changing forms and seeking totally
different circumstances.

An individual's passion or major concern usually has some past-life
thread. For example, people working now to rescue or assist animals may
have tried to help animals for lifetimes, or they may be attempting to
make up for having hurt them in the past. Horses who easily learn and
excel at dressage may have been equine champions previously. Horses who
resist an activity may have mastered that activity already and wish to
go on to something else. [pp 177-178, When Animals Speak]

Penelope has a whole chapter on this topic, as well as a section on how
animals perceive death including from the soul perspective.

Your animal friend is here in this form at this time because s/he chose
to be. With sick pets, we humans have to be careful not to project our
desires or need to heal onto an animal when it would interfere in some
way with their life path. It's a fine line; we want our animal friends
to have the best lives possible, but we have to take care not to force
them to move along because it pains us or disconcerts us to see them
struggling in some
way. They have to want to move forward, that's the key. You can
certainly
talk with them and ask them how s/he views her/his life with you, what
her/his life purpose is, and is there anything you can do to assist
her/him with that and with her/his health issues.

Your animal may be here in service to others (such as the joy s/he
brings to
animals and humans alike) because s/he is making up for something he
did
in past life/lives. For example, [I'm using he as an example], he wants,
he chose (at the soul level, before incarnating), the experiences he is
going through. There is learning there for him, even if it just looks
painful to us. We can offer assistance; it's sometimes hard to know when
it's assistance and when we're forcing their perceived issue into the
light rather than letting them get to that place of enlightenment on
their own. He may also be here to teach others (only he knows what he's
here to teach, so you'd have to ask him), and to offer others
unconditional love as well.

Sit quietly with him, get centered, come from the heart, and ask him
what he might need from you to make this life the best it can be. He may
need nothing from you except love, and necessary (but not invasive)
medical care from time to time. You can offer him Bach or other
vibrational essences (first send the concept of essences to him and ask
him if those sound and feel useful/helpful/appealing to him, then trust
your instincts), energetic healing (such as Reiki or other forms), color
therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, herbs . . . . Ask him what he would
find helpful and then be open to what he sends you. He may say
nothing; he may send you a color, a feeling, a knowing . . . trust
your instincts there.

It's always important to ask the animal if they wish healing assistance
before providing it (this is a principle of Reiki and other energetic
healing modalities -- the being has to want it and be open to it, it's
never sent without permission). I learned this lesson in a big way from
my dog, Max (he showed me a previous life as a dolphin). I worried
about him incessantly for several years because he had many, many health
issues (mostly due to vaccinosis). Two

2005-06-07 Thread felv

I absolutely believe that every being that comes
into my life arrives to teach me a lesson. I also believe that everything that
happens to me is also happening to teach me a lesson, and allowing me to learn
from it. I probably have not learned them all at the time, or even yet, but I
know it all happened for a reason. I have so much capacity for compassion that I
feel that these beings needing it come to me because there is a gap in them that
I fill, and visa-versa, in me that they fill, almost in a purely scientific way.
Like an empty vacuum being filled with air. Everything fits together in this
world, where one thing is missing, something replaces it. If we make the right
choices and take the correct actions, things fit together in a harmonious way,
creating light and goodness, and truth. If we make the wrong choices, and make
bad moves, things do not run so harmoniously, and we get the sensations of
unwellness, conflict or discord. When things happen in our lives, we need to be
aware of all of it's meanings, and then carefully make the decisions we need to
make, and take the actions we need to take to put the situation to the best use
in our lives, then we need to carefully find peace in what we have done, and
file the information gathered from the happening in our consciousness, so we can
actively recall and use the lessons it left with us. Each sick cat we take in
leaves us with at least one lesson learned, most likely at least 4 or 5 lessons.
The saying "you learn from your mistakes" rings negative to us, but in truth,
it's just how we learn. It's only negative if you go through the mistakes, and
then don't learn from them, and end up repeating them over and over again.
There's another saying "history repeats itself". In that, exists proof that as a
whole, humanity does not effectively learn from it's mistakes, and make the
correct moves and take the correct actions as a whole. Each one of us who begins
to learn, and use the lessons in our lives to create positive energy within
ourselves and the world around us, is one more person changing the shape of our
society and species, for the betterment of us all.

You kind of got me started there... I have a
whole website devoted to such things, I could rant and rave for hours on such
topics. ;-)~

Faye,
Did you read the article posted about methods of finding lost animals
based on their personalities? Why don't you set a humane trap in the
area you spotted him? If you don't own a trap, you can usually rent
them from feed stores, or get a rescue in your area that cares about
ferals to help. Write to me off list if you want some suggestions about
effectively setting the trap. I know how hard the 'not knowing' is. I
would trust your instincts on this, do you think he's still alive? Even
if that wasn't Simba you spotted, somebody's out there that could use
your help. You spotted that cat for a reason. Let me know what you
decide to do.

I also have a stray kitty whom I have been
feeding, and who seems to be having some type of problems I sort of
felt something was wrong a while ago, but I was not sure exactly what it was
but yesterday morning, when George (his name) came to eat, he did not touch the
food at all and I am so worried according to my AC, he might
have a tooth infection and might have some problem with kidney

I need to trap him and take him to a vet ASAP
last night, I saw him in my neigh hood (under the car which is
his favorite place) and I set a trap, and he went inside a trap, but something (weed)
got caught in the trap door and the trap did not close and he was able to get
out from the trap (I am so stupid not being so careful) now I am
worried that he wouldnt go into the trap

Please pray that I can trap him very very soon
so that I can take him to the vet and take care of him

George told my AC that he is willing to try
to be an indoor kitty if I really wanted him to, but if he is not happy and
miserable there, he would like to be back on street and I promised that
I would do let him go if that happened to be the case he is a tom cat,
but he is not aggressive type at all. My priority is to catch him first
before his condition gets any worse. Please please pray that he will come to me
and I can trap him with no problem very very soon.

Thank you!

One of my 4 year old babies, a mutt doggy, Corky (mix of
Scottie, Westie and Schnauzer) all of sudden started having bloody stools early
this morning or I should say, there really was no stools, just tons and
tons of dark red bloods coming out like a flood so much came out that I almost
fainted I never seen so much blood at one place she has also
thrown up I took her to her the emergency clinic getting some IV and
antibiotics she bleeded there also. After some testing, they narrowed
it down to a couple of things and they are hoping that fluid therapy
and the antibiotics will treat her - please pray for Corks
recovery a poor baby, she is very scared there, she is never out of the
house and I really want to be able to bring her home soon!

Also, last Saturday, I rescued a boy kitty who I had been
feeding for several months now. I noticed that he lost lots of
weight (I hadnt seen him for a couple of weeks) and I took him
to the vet everything seems to be OK except that on ELISA, he tested
positive on FIV now I am having Cornell Lab to do the western blot (as
I had a couple of cats who tested positive on FIV via ELISA, and ended up
negative later) anyway, now I have to figure out where to place him
he must have belonged to someone a long time ago, as he is very
friendly and used to people. I talked to Carl (I named him Carl) via AC
Carl told my AC that he used to be an indoor kitty when she was a kitten, and
somehow he became an outdoor kitty, and somehow, then he did not have a home
anywhere I asked via AC, if he would like to stay with me and to be an
indoor kitty, he said he would like that very much I hope
his lost weight is just a temporary, and I am so praying that the western blot
will come back as negative please also pray for Carls
well-being, he is such a sweet baby, and he has had a rough life since he had
lost home

I did read the article. It made some great points.

There are several problems. The reason I didn't chase after him
that day is because I couldn't climb the cliff and it was fenced off and posted
to boot.

The posting is a major problem. The thing is people in this
area rarely post keep out signs. It makes me wonder if the owners are
operating a meth lab which is currently in epidemic in our rural area. It is a
new development but we have had 2 houses explode within the last 6 months. On
this land, nearest house is well off the road past the signs. In our part
of the world, people are very friendly and don't get bent out of shape with
their neighbors chasing a cat onto their land but these same folks don't post
signs either. Plus, the land is fenced with barb wire and very thick with
brush.

The cat I sawmight not be him. There was an orange tabby
cat run over on that same street. I stopped by that dead body every day for 2
weeks and examined every hair on the body. It wasn't Simba but I couldn't
get it out of my mind that it was and had to keep reassuring myself. I
see a red or orange tabby and I think Simba.

Did you read the article posted about methods of finding lost animals

I had to slide out at bit and at some point Sam got scared and ran into the back yard. We attracted some of the neighborhood kids, too.Long story short, he jumped over a fence, went under a vacant house, where there was a live possum and an armadillo, so pretty soon he was outa there - I was glad! Headed for the next house and under it. By that time, Susan made it over to where it was all happening.Fortunately, the house he was under had only one opening, and had a pretty
neat large crawl space. He kept hiding behind the big air conditioning stuff and we couldn't get to him.Susan - in spite of spiders, dirt and claustrophobia - crawled under and set a couple of traps laced with cat food, mackerel, salmon juice, and a cup of milk. We sat in the driveway just about all day, except for a 2 hour break, checking under the house and eating junk food.About 9:15 or so tonight, Sam just walked up to the access door. Susan said, he's right there! We talked to him and I reached my hand in and petted him, I think he remembered me - nd pretty soon grabbed him. Re: Healing-Health Issues (bach flower essences, alt therapies)

Bach Flower EssencesRescue
RemedyCan I use this stuff on myself, and what will it do for me?
Anything that will help me concentrate and pay attention to my job? I already
carry around a bag of stones and crystals that were advised to me as possibly
helpful for my issues, and have a rock that sits beside my head on my nightstand
at night to help with nightmares (it's actually to help stoprepeating
negative patterns, but my nightmares have always been re-occurring, so that's
why I chose it).

Anybody here ever use crystals on cats, like in
their bedding, or made into collars or pendants on collars? I'm getting one made
for Bones, healing stones and crystals, for mind and body healing.

What about magnets? Anyone ever have any success
with using magnetic therapy on their cats for various ills (particularly
interested in if it helps traumatic injuries).

I'm already getting Bones a orthopedic foam bad
with heat and massage options, plus going to start her on crondroitin, MSM, and
vitamin C supplement (it's made just for joint and bone issues). http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=10354N=2001+113677It's
the Flex-care MSM granules on that page. Was considering getting some magnets to
put in the bedding.

Any other suggestions that might speed her
healing time? She's doing really good so far, I just want to do everything I
can. She's going to physical therapy with me in 2 weeks, and I also have the
number of an acupuncturist, but have not called her yet. She does not seem to be
in very much pain anymore, the drugs the vet gave me for her pain seem to really
work great. You guys ever heard of Metacam? I give her a dose every 3 days, and
she seems so much better since starting it.

supplement that's suppose to be good for asthma and arthritis. If it
checks out as something I think will be safe and effective, I'll try it
for Zevon, (my German Shepherd with Degenerative Myelopathy) and Gypsy,
(my IBD kitty). Here's the link http://www.lyprinol.com/home.htm

A couple of women on my IBD list are using it and have had good results
so far. If you check it out let me know what you think.

Please pass on to anyone you know who has pets. The EPA has long known thatHartz products cause deaths in animals. Evidently now they've admitted it, but they've worked out a deal where they still get to sell what they have already produced until it runs out ==News for Release: Friday, June 3, 2005U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)Hartz to Relabel and Cancel Flea and Tick Drops for Cats and KittensContact: Eryn Witcher, 202-436-2215/ [EMAIL PROTECTED](Washington, D.C.-- June 3, 2005) At EPA's insistence, Hartz MountainCorp. has agreed to cancel uses of several flea and tick products thatmay be associated with a range of adverse reactions, including hairloss, salivation, tremors and numerous deaths in cats and kittens. Thecommon pet product brand names which are involved in this actioninclude: Hartz Advanced Care 4 in 1 Flea
Tick Drops Plus+ for Catsand Kittens; Hartz Advanced Care Brand Flea and Tick Drops Plus+ forCats and Kittens; Hartz Advanced Care 3 in 1 Flea Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens; and Hartz Advanced Care Once-A-Month Flea and Tick Drops for Cats and Kittens. In the short term, the agreement calls for immediate relabeling of theproducts. The new labeling will state that the products of concern arenot to be used on the most vulnerable animals, including cats andkittens that weigh less than 6 pounds, cats older than 13 years, orkittens less than 5 months old.Hartz will stop all new production of the cat and kitten products bySeptember 30, 2005, and not sell or distribute any affected productafter December 31, 2005. The measures announced today will help ensure pets are protected. Pet owners should pay close attention to new labels and exercise good judgment when choosing pet products."EPA is
taking this action because there are safety concerns with theseproducts,'' said Susan B. Hazen, principal deputy assistantadministrator at EPA. "Pet owners should be alerted to these concerns, and may choose to transition to alternative products. We take seriouslyour obligation to ensure that pesticide products, when used as labeled, are safe."The company agreed to a prohibition on any remaining retail sales byMarch 31, 2006. This orderly transition allows consumers anddistributors to move to alternatives flea and tick products and will bestrictly monitored. Hartz will also be notifying their distributors andretailers of the changes in order to ensure a workable phaseout. As with any pesticide product, all label directions and precautionsshould be carefully followed to ensure the product is used correctly. It is prudent to follow the new restrictions for all products,
includingexisting stocks. After a public 30-day comment period, EPA intends to issue acancellation order and an amended registration, which will be effectiveby October 31, 2005.
