Re: [Felvtalk] Hair Loss

2010-02-23 Thread Ashley Vanover
I took my cat Gonzo to the vet a couple of days ago for a similar
problem. He isn't FeLV+, but my other cat, Kong, is. I had noticed
Kong's hair on his ears looks much thinner, but it hasn't spread and
doesn't seem to be bothering him. Anyway, the vet didn't seem to know
what was wrong with Gonzo, but said he did have ear mites which could
lead to fur loss. He gave me Revolution, and I've treated both cats
with no trouble. It's too early to tell if it will help, but the
medication (it's the type you squirt between their shoulder blades),
didn't seem to bother Kong at all.

Can you see if there is an injury? wondering about an abscess..?

I had an indoor kitty turn up with demodex, though I can't say I really
noticed she was overly itchy, I thought it was rinworm at first since I do
resuce and had been dealing with that. I took her to the vet who thought it
was allergies then had one last thought to do a skin scraping and found one
mite.

Now, I really don't know if that may be what this is--could, I am sure, be a
number of things as skin issues can be so hard to pinpoint. And, ringworm
can look like anything just fyi but hopefully it isn't that.

Re: [Felvtalk] Stanley and Muscular Atrophy

2010-02-23 Thread Lance
My sister's cat, Alex, is diabetic and also had muscle atrophy. It got so bad
that he was dragging one of his back legs around, and when he went up the
stairs, you'd know it without being there by the sound of the flop as he
climbed a step.

My parents took Alex off of my sister's hands. She has three other cats and a
busy Corgi, and Alex, being the eldest, just wasn't doing well. My dad really
worked hard to get Alexander's blood sugar up and to get him regular potassium.
After about five or six months of treatment, Alex is a new cat. He can jump and
climb again, and he's much more confident in general.

hi Diane,
It would depend on what his potassium level is. When Fred had muscle
