Hi Sandy!
It's always a little bittersweet welcoming new members to the list,
FeLV is such a devastating disease...but you won't find a more
knowledgable, more caring group of people!! :) I'm also in the
Houston area (Seabrook, to be exact), so if there's anything you need,
please don't
Sorry, it's getting past my bed-time...hard to form a thought! What I
meant for the lysine dosage: 500 mg per day split between two meals
(250 mg per meal)!

But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be

I've heard of atropine, but wasn't sure what it was for...did a quick
Google check, but couldn't quite deciper the medical-speak! :)
Sounds like it's a kind of pain killer, though...and I found this tid-
bit kinda interesting:
Atropine extracts from the Egyptian henbane were used by Cleopatra
Thanks, Julie!
I'm still having crazy dreams about running out of gas (and I still find
myself looking to see if gas stations have gas as I drive
by...yikes)...but other than that, things seem to be back to normal! :)
I think the guy who contacted me (James) is looking into importing
Virbagen
Did they administer any kind of pain killer? Our Pips had a slightly
similar reaction after his pain killer injection...dilated pupils,
and just generally rolling around obsessively...I could tell the pain
killer was good stuff... :)
But
Hello All!
I just had a very heart-broken man email me about importing Virbagen
for his 5 month old kitten who was just diagnosed with FIP...I know
some of you have dealt with FIP before (successfully?), and was just
wondering if you'd have any advice! I encouraged him to join the list
as
Please do see a vet as soon as you can...it's possible that she could
have lymphoma if her breathing is affected. Our Ewok had similar
symptoms, difficulty breathing when resting and a phantom
hairball...almost like an asthma attack. We found out that he does
have a tumor in his chest and
He'd sit up and start the kinda (sorry for the gross description)

finish with kind of a dry-heave...my biggest concern, however, was
that his breathing was a little labored when he was at rest and, most
noticably, he was
I couldn't agree with you more on the spider issue!! I've also got an
irrational fear of them...I wanted to visit Australia at one
point...until my boss (an Australian) told me about the size of the
spiders they've got over there...that killed any plans to vacation in
Australia any time
I think it might just depend on the cat! I've heard that all cats have
the instinct to catch prey...but they need to learn from their mothers
what do do with the prey once they catch it (ie. kill)...whether that's
true or not, I don't know...our boys (who were born with silver spoons
in their
I've got the reverse problem...the cockroaches (palmetto bugs, I
think...that does sound better than cockroaches) mostly take up
residence in our garage, which is fine with me as it *isn't* in the
house...however, we have a cat door in the door that connects the garage
and house (why the garage is

I'm actually suprised we didn't get shot at... :) ...I'm trying to

Hi Guys!
We're back! Physically, anyway, mentally, I'm still having a hard time
recovering from the nightmare of the evacuation! :(
It took us over 55 hours to get from Houston to Little Rock!! Our
evacuation route was bumper to bumper for about 50 of those hours...we
spent a couple of nights
Hi Susan!
I have heard from Gloria and I'll tell you the same thing I told her...I
feel extremely fortunate that I've got such a wonderful network of
friends all over the country! Thank you so much for the support! As of
now, we have reservations at the Motel 6 off of Hwy. 30 in Little
Hi All!
Well, it looks like a mandatory evacuation may be scheduled for our area
(SE Houston) by Thursday morning due to Rita...I'm hoping beyond hope
that the hurricane will change course, but we're not taking any chances!
If we have to leave, the animals are coming with us which means 2 dogs,
Thanks, Terri! We need them now more than ever! I don't want to put
the Feleuk guys through the stress of a move if I don't have to...but it
doesn't look like we have much of a choice! :(
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.
Thanks, Chris! That is my thinking as well...if we have no other
option, we sneak and hope that everyone remains on their best behavior!
;) No mysterious circular stains on the carpet!!
Jen
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.
Thanks, Kerry...I think I'm still in a bit of denial...I'm originally
from the Chicago-land area where the worst thing we had to worry about,
nature-wise, was losing an extremity or two in the bitter cold! ;) The
whole scenerio of your house being under water is just too much for me
to fathom,
How do Sebastian's gums look? Are they pale? How's his breathing?
He could be fighting anemia...but I'm guessing the vets would have
tested for that when they saw him last...are they leaning towards
something neurological? It may help your piece of mind knowing what
is going on with
Thankfully, most of the animals in those pics have their owner's with
them! We actually hit the Houston SPCA and Humane Society here in
Houston to drop off food and supplies...The SPCA took in over 250
homeless animals from the Louisiana SPCA and the Humane Society is
going hotel-to-hotel,
Thanks, Julie...I wish I could do more...I just checked out the Houston
SPCA's and Humane Society's websites...the SPCA is offering to take in
any pets of refugees staying in Houston and the Humane Society is
offering a free clinic through the holiday weekend where staff will
volunteer their time
This is a good way to administer Nutrical, if it hasn't been suggested
already! It's a high-calorie gel that comes in a tube (can also be
found at Petsmart, etc.)...just put some on your finger and scrape
against the roof of kitty's mouth...I've also put some on paws so that
they're forced to
Hi Lisa!
Yep, it's a supplement that can be taylored for supplemental use, or for
guys that aren't eating much (if anything) at all! Like I said, it just
comes in a tube (kinda like toothpaste)...if you're able to get your
finger in kitty's mouth (as opposed to the syringe, which takes a little
Hi Lisa!
Have you tried giving him a little l-lysine? If he's having a problem
smelling his food (one reason that he may not want to eat), then lysine
might help clear up anything sinus-wise (and maybe even eye-wise) so
that he can smell his food again!
That said, you may want to try anything
Thanks, Tonya! Yeah, I think there may have been something up with the
list over the weekend...hopefully the problem has been resolved! :)
Ewok, so far, is doing pretty well...he's breathing much easier so I
take that as good news that the tumor is shrinking...I'm trying not to
get my hopes up
Big hugs to you and Big Rik (love his name)! You guys are in my thoughts!

uninhibited, now...I know Twiggy is going to be pretty busy for awhile,
but I'm sure she'll be watching over the wonderful people who watched

I am so sorry to hear about Cloud! Has the vet given you a definitive
diagnosis? Cats don't generally die of the Feleuk virus itself, but
rather because of diseases that take advantage of the cat's weakened
immune system...is Cloud anemic?
I don't know...it looks good on paper, so-to-speak...but it still
hasn't hit me yet that he has cancer...I've treated every single day
since I found out that he and his brothers were positive as if it were
their last...I have no regrets, but it won't make it any easier...I
don't want to lose him,
He's been feeling punky the last couple of weeks...to my untrained eye,
it almost seems as though he's having an allergic reaction to
something...he's scratching like mad around his face and neck (despite
the use of flea meds--Advantage). But whether or not the scratching is
related to the fact

hour...wish us luck!! :)

Damn, damn, damn...but I can't tell you guys enough how so very proud
of this little man I am...my vet was able to get us into the
oncologist's office straight away and it was confirmed that he has
lymphosarcoma in his chest cavity. He went through his first round of
chemo this morning
Thanks, Gloria! He is a very special guy...he's my baby boy, so-named
because he is the youngest of the original litter of 5 kittens (his
oldest brother, Sleepypants, is still going strong, as well!). He's a
tough guy...hopefully he can keep the FeLV at bay just a little bit longer!

Ewok's tumor responds better to chemo that our Pips' did...although I
hear that chest tumors respond much more readily to chemo than
intestinal tumors (which Pips had).
And you're lucky...I had my sights set on the tequila
Thanks, Susan...that means alot! Ewok isn't too keen on the shaving bit
right now, but something's making him feel a little better as he's got
more spunk now than he's had in the past week...I hope this works!

Not a problem! Just send me your mailing address (your money is no good
here)! :)
MC has offered to write-out the prayer that my Dad used to bless the
medals in caligraphy, so I'm just waiting to hear back from her and will
include the prayer with the medals!
Glad to hear your guys
I was going to wait to post on the actual day...but since the list is a
little slow (and because I couldn't wait to announce it) :) ...Our
boys, Sleepypants and Ewok, will be 3 years old on the 22nd! :) Not
too shabby for a couple of guys born with the virus! :)

You go girl! :) We laid ceramic tile in our kitchen...wasn't that hard
at all! Be sure to rent a tile cutter...makes the job a heck of alot
easier! And keep the cement-adhesive well mixed so you can spread it
easily (I used a mixer attachment specifically for mixing adhesive and

Our Lola went into heat a few days before we had her spayed and
proceeded to mark most of the cat beds! But she would just squat and
let out a few drops of urine...never completely released the contents of
her bladder... :)
But if you tame
Yeah, I had heard that as well...I think there's some debate about the
issue which, I believe, comes down to how confident the surgeon is with
performing a spay on a female in heat...perhaps something to do with
blood vessels (associated with the uterus/ovaries) being enlarged and
the risk
Hee, hee! I've even gone to the extent of removing all of the carpet in
the house and replacing with ceramic tile/laminate wood flooring (I
highly recommend the Armstrong's edition made exclusively for
Lowe's...withstands spills and cat claws peeling out at 100 miles and
hour)...and the rugs are
Warning: Much sarcasm to follow...
What a fabulous world this would be if we could all be so lucky to place
every FeLV/FIV cat in our idea of a perfect home...and she wonders why
she hasn't gotten a single response? Did she assume people would be
breaking down her door for Domino?
Absolutely, Erika! I'd love to send one for each cat!
This list is so wonderfully modest... :) I need to let everyone know
that these medals aren't *just* for people! :) If you've got cats or
dogs with collars, they'd fit right on there! I've even put one on each
of the urns that hold the
You bet!! :)

Hi All!
Hope ya'll had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! I haven't been able to
keep up with my Inbox for the past few weeks...but I want to send my
best to all of our beautiful fur-babies...
My Dad was down this past weekend! He just couldn't say enough
wonderful things about the amazing group
Absolutely! I've been catching up with my posts and just saw the photos
of the FeLV cats that came out of that shelter...I can't even put into
words how I feel right now...angry/sad/helpless just doesn't even start
to cut it...but I had thought of sending medals as well, and I feel so

Hi Erika!
I can't stress enough that FeLV is *not* transmissable to humans
(pregnant or not)!!
I believe what the Cornell site is trying to do is to inform pregnant
women of the *rare* threat of toxoplasmosis (a parasite that *can* be
transmitted to humans unlike FeLV which is species
Absolutely! I just figured those were a given... ;) But you are
absolutely right! :) Always wash those hands after handling a litter
box or even after doing a little gardening in your yard where outdoor
cats are likely to do their business!
Hi All!
I just had a wonderful conversation with a woman who got my name from my
(cat) oncologist in downtown Houston (I haven't been there in over a
year, but apparently they remembered that I took care of a few cats with
FeLV!)...the woman I spoke with, Carol, just took in a sweet little

Sorry, I'm so behind on posts...so this topic may have already been

Hi Mike--
I've only caught bits and pieces of this thread...but judging by the symptoms
that you've listed, it sounds like your little guy has lymphoma (FeLV+ cats are
notoriously prone to cancer)...and seeing that it's in his chest, you'll need
to act quickly (fluid can quickly build up in
