I don't bown a sewing machine and haven't in years. Well, that might be a lie, there may be an almost brand new although it is over 12 years old machine I packed and brought here when I bought this house about 11 or so years ago. I think I had it out of the box once and actually threaded a couple of bobbins. Maybe. Out in the garage? Maybe Good Will? No dainty ladylike habits for me. I will work in the yard/garage but none of that cookin, cleanin, sewing, mending stuff for me. Lee Evans wrote: It's my way of avoiding my insect phobia. I don't care what it looks like. I care what it smells like. Lol. I did order some patio furniture from Home Depot. It's not that comfortable, but I only put cushions on the chair I'll be sitting in since I live by myself. When I go to bed I throw the cushions in the spare bedroom. I don't have to cover or vacuum them because I don't take them out unless someone comes over. As soon as they leave I put the cushions away. If a cushion does get peed on it can be washed. I have nothing upholstered left in my house. It does look better, but mostly it saves me all the work of covering it and vacuuming it, and washing all the various coverings. Also was cheap because I bought it off season. Additionally if a cushion gets ruined I can always by new patio furniture cushions in the future. I'm hoping this will make things cheaper. I was stung by a brown scorpion while in art school in Mexico. What a headache! Now I find that I have them here in Missouri. When we built our house and finally got it closed up, found a 5" one while on the way to bed. Missed stepping on him thank God. Because we are on a south facing bluff we have them, rattle snakes and anything else that lives under a rock in a burrow. Don't buy new. I never buy new upholstered anything. I buy used living room furniture off craigslist, always cheap but attractive. Until my current living room set ($125 for couch and matching chair) with the zip-off washable cushion covers I simply changed the couch every year. I've heard of this... People who want to get rid of a cat because the fur doesn't match the furniture.. Geez. I have my furniture covered in multicolored velour upholstery, and my rugs, are all oriental design. The design really hides the fur, and the soft velvet upholstery is not what cats like to claw. It works, and I have a bunch of cats of all sizes, shapes and colors including three long haired cats who really leave a lot of fur around! There are ways to live with multiple cats and still have a nice home, but too many people use fur as an excuse to dump their pets.
