Re: [Felvtalk] Desperate Rescuer

Lee, if I knew Karen's physical address I could have PetFlow or another
Petfood company deliver several large bags of cat food to her. I wish
I could do more, but I have 30 cats of my own and a very expensive no
kill, cageless cat sanctuary building to keep up.

PLease keep us updated about Karen. I am so sorry she is having such
problems.

Yes, ours has a community pantry, for the same reason.
Anyone can come and get food.

Also check the local pounds - ours has certain foods they prefer to use for a
consistent diet (less tummy trouble). The other donated foods are often
re-donated to feral feeders who agree to participate in TNR.

This not a bother. I too am on SS, at poverty level and have a problem feeding
6 cats and myself. One help I get is volunteering at th senior center in town
- I get my one big meal free for working there. In the evening it is fruit and
cereal. I keep my fingers crossed that my van keeps working since my extended
warrenty ran out. Someone once said either on this group or another, that
Petsmart and other pet stores will donate free or at reduced price outdated pet
food. It is worth a try to ask, all they can do is say no.

Sure would be nice if one of us could win a couple of million. I would even
take in dumped children if I could. But the law won't let me do that and on SS,
I barely keep myself and 6 cats going. Seems the rich get richer and animal

Yes, I'm not a big fan of fb either but am active on there for animal
purposes and it does seem to be the best way to find help these days.

Send me the info & I will share it, if you can send any pics of the cats
(of course that won't disclose her feeding location), I can post with a pic
in hopes that might help:)

Hi Lee,

I tried to send you a private email, but I guess it went astray. If you could email me privaely with Karen's full name and a delivery address, I can help with food.

Great idea! I have a PayPal account which I need because I work from online in several different types of jobs and companies (independent contractor) so be sure to earmark it for Community Cats. That way I will be able to give her whatever donations come in. If you could post on Facebook, that would be even more of a help. My Facebook page is under my online name at a company I have been working for over 10 years and I'm not allowed to use it for private purposes. I don't have a FB page of my own. Facebook Phobia? Thanks again. I will get the info together and send it to you at your private email address.

If there is a paypal address that donations may be made to and passed to her, let me know and I will try to do some networking on FB.  I can also post a physical address that checks or gift cards can be mailed to if she doesn't mind that being out there (would need her full name, address, and someone's Paypal address for the first idea I mentioned, which I do think is most likely to draw contributions since then people can stop right there and contribute online before they forget).

alone in the daily commitment, let alone the financial side.

Is there a paypal address that can be shared publicly (like on facebook)
for donations? It might help a little if there were a 501(c)3 rescue who
will allow donations to be sent to them, noted for Karen's work, that will
then purchase food for her (since people are often more inclined to donate
to 501(c)3.

If there is further contact info that can be shared on fb, let me know and
I will.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, Karen and I have both worked on this
problem, I on the computer and Karen asking friends, rescuers and others for
some help, mostly to no avail. The TNR group here is San Antonio Feral Cat
Coalition. They do not have a shelter situation so get very little cat food
donations. They have already contributed to her as much as they can but as I
said, she has to feed these cats every day. She is getting free TNR
certificates from Animal Care Services which is out local kill-everything
shelter but the city came on board with kicking and screaming when we were
trying to force the TNR idea into the animal laws. They finally accepted it
when public opinion soared in favor and the local newspaper printed several
articles in support and against what was taking place at the kill shelter (gas
chamber). But that still leaves Karen without a car and without money to buy
one if she doesn't get some donations to help with the cat
food. It's not organizations I'm asking now, it's just individuals who can
spare a few dollars to call in to Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus and Petco to get
her gift cards on file so she can purchase the cat food with at least a little
help. She also has rent and utilities to pay, which is sucking money out of her
paycheck and she is not eligible for any steady help from anywhere else because
she has a job.

Re: [Felvtalk] Desperate Rescuer

2013-08-08 Thread Heather
I can sure empathize with your friend, my bf and I care for over 20
colonies. The rescue bills over the years have taken any credit we can
find, we have no money for a home (health/dental etc) for ourselves, and
our daily lives completely hinge on the weather and our colonies, not to
mention work, TNR and the tons of rescue that goes with all of this. We
just this week had a litter of kittens dumped at one of our spots (an
obvious dumping as opposed to "wandered up" kittens--all the cats are
fixed) with one kitten needing a blood transfusion, and already had several
kittens in rescue.

So I can absolutely relate...I'm not familliar with any Texas groups other
than ShadowCats, but hope perhaps there is a group that gets damaged goods
from grocery stores that could help with food? We used to get that though
haven't in about a year, it was through a rescue group so I can't offer any
pointers on how to find that but it's certainly worth inquiring with any
group she can find.

If they have good low-cost TNR clinics there, she should check with them
and any shelters that support TNR and might have a food bank. Our Humane
Society has a food bank for needy people with pets and will allow
caretakers in need to draw upon this a bit, if they have sufficient stock.

If I think of any ideas I will post, please let your friend know there are
others out there in similar dire straits--not much consolation, I know!

Thank you for trying to help her, I hope support is found.

Heather
